The guests have too much nostalgia for mid-century big government shenanigans. It was "democratic processes" which created redlining and zoning as we know it today. It also killed passenger rail in order to benefit white suburban households by building the highway system, helping to bring about urban blight. It gerry-mandered our cities, sliced up school districts, and so on. All of it perfectly "legal" and "democratic" (rule of the 51%). I could definitely get behind state-sponsored Nuclear Power. It's the perfect project for a national government, and has a strong history of success in other countries. But nationalizing all the utilities again? Eh, no thanks. It would just be a repeat of the past. Nonetheless, I found this very interesting, and appreciated hearing their perspectives.

I literally live 2 hrs away from the office, was hired as wfh/ remote mid covid. I accepted a not great salary at the time bc i knew i wouldnt need to pay to commute. Now they want us back multiple times a week and i literally cant afford to pay for my commute. The state i live in is extremely expensive which is why i live 2 hours away from the city our office is in. I tried asking my boss if she can help find a resolve like transitioning my role to freelance or something else. My commute would cost me 400$+ a month which is a big chunk of my income. They told me that if i cant commit to comming in that itll be " taken as a resignation" and gave me two days to make a choice.. Except.. im not resigning 🙃 theyre forcing me to lol Btw 100% of my job is on a computer. 0 part of it requires me to be in the office .
