1517

1517

1517 is rooted in the legacy of Martin Luther and the first evangelicals of the Reformation. We create and distribute theological and apologetic resources anchored in the central message of the Bible: that Christ died for sinners and rose for their justification. Through the proclamation of the Gospel, we aim to give assurance and consolation to Christians, enable individuals to serve their neighbors in freedom, and strengthen the church.

Matthew 28:19 is speaking of one particular name. The name of the father, and the son, and the Holy Ghost is all summed up in the name of Jesus, Colossians, one: 19, 29, Hebrews one - 3:4, revelation, one: eight. The apostles understood this when they baptized because of what else Jesus said in March 16:16 and 17, Luke 24:47 and we can also find this in John 20:31. We also see what the apostles did in act 2:38, 8-12:16, 10:48, 19:5. We also see this taught in Romans 6-3:6, one Corinthians one - 12:13, 6:11, 10-1:2, Galatians 3:27, Ephesians 4:5, Colossians 2-11:12, 3:17, James 2:7, one Peter, 3-20 21. in Jesus dwells all the fullness of the “Trinity “of God and we are completing him. If you haven’t, be baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. Jesus is the name in which forgiveness/remission of sins reside, and there is salvation in the weather, act for: 12. we certainly agree that baptism is a necessity, and therefore it needs to be in the name of the Lord Jesus, because Jesus is the one who saves. The father did not die. The father was not buried. The father did not rise from the dead, because he never died. The Holy Spirit did not die. The Holy Spirit was not buried. The Holy Spirit did not rise again. We are buried with him in baptism, not them. We are resurrected with him, not them. Therefore, every time I baptize in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, I am baptizing according to Matthew 28:19. John 5:43, Matthew 1:21, John, 14-18: 26. The only way to be baptized into Jesus Christ is when we call on his name and have his name called upon us, act 22:16. Jesus was not speaking of three names. He did not say “baptizing them in the names of “, he said, “baptizing them in or into the name. “The name is singular, and the three fold nature of the being of God is all summed up in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus is the name of the Lord. I would encourage you to get baptized into that wonderful, awesome, blessed saving Healing, delivering protecting name, Philippians 2-5:11, revelation, 3-8:11. Let us all be led by the word of God and the spirit of God into deeper truths of God. None of us know it all. We want to walk more and more in the light of the word of truth Together.

The tree of Life just gives immortality. Not salvation. Nothing spiritual. The reference to manna yes. If Adam and Eve had eaten from that tree, they'd be like the Angels. And God didn't want that.

This is my issue with Christianity. It's built on the writings of a guy who didn't walk with Jesus, and couldn't get along with anyone, including Jesus's inner circle, and others that were actually walking with jesus.. maybe Peter, James, John, Barnabas, and John Mark weren't the issue.. Maybe Paul was just an asshole

Maybe. But according to scripture Mary, the mother of Jesus asked Him to. Can God ignore His own laws? Honor your father and mother. Jesus is God, and Mary is the mother of Jesus (God). So Jesus' mother said they have run out of wine. Jesus' reply was, what does that have to do with me? I'm sure Mary gave Him that Mother look, which neans do something about it now.

For me, it's helpful to note that an "inheritance" is a form of "predestination" (which Paul talks about here). When you're adopted into a family as a full member, you acquire a title and become predestined to receive an inheritance.

Eric, this is an excellent lesson. The graphics help immensely, for I’m a visual learner. Once after Mass, my wife and I agreed that there is an immense spiritual battle to see if we dared to look behind the curtain. We wouldn’t be able to handle it. It goes to show that that we need to prepare for this Battle by reading scripture to receive the gift of faith, thru grace, on account of Jesus. My hunch is that when we join Him in heaven that we may have a part to play in this Battle.

“Talking about being saved” - I agree that this is a worthwhile subject to talk about. There can be a problem though when the discussion emphasizes only one aspect of the truth of the Gospel. What does it mean to have faith in Jesus, or to believe in Him? I wish to give some answers to these questions, answers which come directly from the scriptures. I feel disappointed that a number of the comments in this video use only partial quotes from the Bible. This kind of use of scripture, taking quotations out of context, can easily lead to false interpretation. I remember an old adage, “To take a text out of context is a pretext”, and that is why I wish to use scripture quotations faithfully, within the meaning of their contexts. At 2:50 the speaker commented that the Lutheran answer would be “I was baptised”, and a few moments later he referred to 1 Peter3:21, by saying “Baptism now saves you”. This phrase, “Baptism now saves you” is only a portion of the verse. But here is the entirety of that verse, 1 Peter3:21 - “and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also-not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ, . . .” (NIV translation). It can be very helpful, when really trying to understand a verse of scripture, to read that section of scripture in more than one translation of the Bible. This same verse, in the “Living Bible” (TLB translation) reads: “That, by the way, is what baptism pictures for us: In baptism we show that we have been saved from death and doom by the resurrection of Christ; not because our bodies are washed clean by the water but because in being baptized we are turning to God and asking him to cleanse our hearts from sin.” In the context of the complete verse, baptism is “the pledge of a clear conscience toward God.” There are many scripture verses which explain the connections between belief, baptism, and salvation. Here are some of them - Mark 16:16 - Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Acts 15:11 - No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.” Acts 16:31 - They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved-you and your household.” So what does it mean, “to believe”? It can also be expressed as “to have faith”. A good explanation can be found in Romans 10:9 - If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. However it is not just a matter of believing that there is a God, or of believing that Jesus is the son of God - it is a matter of putting our full trust in Him. Consider the implications of the following passage from James 2:18-20. - But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.” Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by my deeds. You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that-and shudder. You foolish person, do you want evidence that faith without deeds is useless? Is it just a matter of belief? No! Look again, because we are told that even the demons believe that there is one God. They shudder at that thought. They will not be saved because of that belief. Here is another question. Are we saved by faith? Before you give an answer to that question, please read and understand the following verses, Ephesians 3:8-10 - “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” So the answer is, No, we are not saved by faith as such, but rather we are saved by God’s grace, which is in response to our faith. It is in this passage that we see that we are not saved by our good works. We are called to do good works in response to God’s gift. We are saved by God’s grace, by God’s gift, which we do not deserve. What is God’s grace? There is a helpful acronym which can help us to understand what grace really is - G.R.A.C.E. - “God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense”. There is one other fundamental part to this whole question of “being saved”. One of the most frequently quoted promises in the Bible, and perhaps one of the best known, is “John 3:16”. It is actually very important that this verse is understood in its context, of John 3, verses 16 to 18 - “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son. We need to carefully read and understand the whole of that passage, because God warns the consequences for those who do not believe. God wants us to turn towards Him, to live our lives in honour and obedience to Him. He wants us to turn away from those things which are contrary to His will, and His laws. Repentance is a keyword in the message of salvation, of “being saved”. “Repentance” is a word which means to “turn away”, or “turn around”, from disobedience to God. Mark 1:15 - “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” Acts 19:4 - Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”

I love the play on words where the people of Nazareth are offended by Jesus: who has "mighty works done by his hands" (referring to miracles). And yet, any carpenter works by his hands. I think it's evident that Joseph, the adopted father of Jesus, was relatively prosperous. He could afford a donkey to take Mary to Bethlehem. He has an occupation that allows him to flee to Egypt when the life of the infant is threatened. Ironically, Jesus' ministry begins on a donkey going to Bethlehem and ends on a donkey going into Jerusalem.

Freedom for what? As Luther says, we are saved and forgiven by Christ’s death and resurrection with a telos/goal/aim in mind: “so that I may may be His own (i.e., Christ's) and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him (i.e. obey, worship, love, offer right sacrifices to Him) in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness.” So. Free from the enslaving power of sin to live in accord with the everlasting, perfect will and law of our King: Christ. Which is basically Luther drawing on God’s words to Pharaoh through Moses and applying them to Jesus: “Let my people go that they may serve me.”

The woman at the well was married five times, but not in this lifetime. Jesus was speaking of her past lives, reincarnation. We reincarnate. We received "the veil" and do not remember our past lives, but Jesus knew her soul before it was put in the the body, from before she was born. We all have past lives but do not remember. It's our soul's journey.

I think it's worth pointing out that, Lamentations is an orchestral piece having 5 chapters, the first 2 chapters have 22 verses each which begin consecutively with the 22 letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Chapter 3, the one Erick does a wonderful job reviewing, is the musical highlight expressing hope and having 66 verses being bundled three verses to a repeating Hebrew letter. Chapter 4 has 22 verses with the same format as chapters 1 and 2. Chapter 5 is the finale, a chapter of chaos where foreigners rule Jerusalem, with 22 verses but without the organization of previous chapters. Even so, Jeremiah ends chapter 5 with hope.

Just a thought: God can only be found in the suffering of the cross can also refer to Jesus telling us to take up our cross and follow him. A book that illustrates this well is "Hinds Feet on High Places" in which the one on a spiritual journey is given Sorrow and Suffering as companions. It is when she holds their hands tightly she has the strength to get through the most difficult parts of her journey. Having a relationship with God requires continual learning and experiencing and we, as humans don't know how far we can go with this without being pushed by circumstances. A very wise woman has said: We enjoy the good times, but we grow through the hard times. And those are the times we really learn what God is like and experience His faithfulness and wisdom and compassion in ways good times can't teach us.
