Jessie Gender

On this channel, I talk about the nuance in the nerdy, and focus on issues facing the LGBTQ community, transgender specific community, women, nonbinary and autistic folks as well as other social and political issues through and within geek topics, with an eye to the most vulnerable. My goal is try to create a space where we can talk about hard issue but in a way that is constructive, positive, welcoming, and educational, and still never loses sight of the joy and love for each other that brought us together in the first place.

Your stories about the timing of each film in your personal life really moved me! I know a lot of folks with similarly profound connections to these films-- in my case, Star Trek literally got me into MIT. Beyond came out the summer before my HS junior year. My dad was a fan as a kid but never really introduced it to me until, in preparation to see Beyond in theaters, he showed me 2009 and Into Darkness. I was hooked instantly. Star Trek really did push me, at that crucial moment, to go all in, and to strive for things I never thought were possible. I ended up writing my admissions essay about Trek's profound impact on my life, and they seemed to like it enough to let me in! I even had Kate Mulgrew sign my admissions letter since Janeway was a major inspiration for me, but I never would have watched Voyager if I hadn't seen 2009 first. Love your content and thanks for highlighting an often-underappreciated corner of Trek canon!

Jessie Gender I must ask what are your thoughts on Gunn overseeing the upcoming DCU and writing/directing Superman?

This reads more like propagranda to make you believe that voting makes a difference, when you only have two options that ultimately will make very similar policies because who really rule the US is the top most lucrative corporations

I'm old enough to see that things ARE changing for the better despite big-headline setbacks like Trump & tech oligopolies. People are becoming more tolerant on average. And people are talking now about decentralizing power & collective action where that was barely a thought a few decades ago. It's just really frustrating that it moves so slow & feels like 2 steps forward then one step back. Unfortunately significant change only happens on a generational timescale which feels glacial.

Capt. Jean-Luc Picard is the prime example of "separate the character from the actor" since he's played by Patrick Stewart who is a hypocrite for calling himself a "feminist" while marrying a woman 38 years younger than him thus young enough to be his daughter and fans are delusional for defending and trivializing it just because of his "clean reputation" nothing is cute or positive about age gap relationships especially when they involve older men and younger women regardless of age itself since they promote toxic gender norms and contribute to purity culture

As you someone who Self-Identifies as transgender can you honestly say that you're even capable of discussing this topic without a heavy, leaning bias? Everybody knows that you can find " medical facts" to support both sides of this argument, are you honestly saying that you haven't cherry-picked facts that support your own subjective opinion?

I don't know if it's my favorite. Maybe. But I have a big soft spot for it, and its characters. And it was the first ST series available in HD.

As someone who struggles to understand things and thought the game was cool when I watched play throughs of it. I’m so glad I watched this video because to be honest I never fully considered the ramifications of all the things and just took the game as weird. This helped me understand the weight of how bad its messaging is and how mysgonistic it is. Thank you for helping me because I tend to miss signs of bigotry in fictional media unless pointed out. So thank you Jessie ❤️

The movie doesn’t betray its sexual violence message, in that it’s not condoning, excusing, or glorifying Cassie’s decision to cross the line into attempting physical violence (although I disagree that her intention was to kill the guy at the end; I don’t think it was even implied. I think she just wanted to carve her friend’s name into his belly/stomach, forever marking him a la The Scarlet Letter, in a way. In the information she sent, she said something to the effect of “In the event that I disappear,” meaning she wasn’t sure what the outcome would be-it was uncertain. Her walking into a situation full of drunken men was certainly walking into dangerous territory. I never felt this was a feel-good ending. It’s utterly tragic. I kind of get the feeling Cassie changed-or began changing enough minds-that these guys probably weren’t going to get away with it. I think some people would testify against those guys at this point. Plus with all the evidence the police were collecting, surely something would link Al and Joe to Cassie’s murder. But that doesn’t dilute the sadness we’re left with at the end. Sometimes life hands you a weird mix of good things happening and bad things all at the same time.

It doesn’t matter if a character is gay or straight, they’re characters and that’s what matters, Ser Joffrey did his part and he died, people like Ser Harwin shouldn’t have died because he mattered and Rhaenyra’s side would be stronger with him.

I spotted some Bionicle canisters on the ground in the intro. Very nice. As for the contents of the video, and my honest opinion about Gwen's story, is that art is meant to be interpretative. A creator's intent may differ from what someone else may see within their work, but the benefit of accepting other interpretations is crucial. The whole point of the Spider-Man character is that people could see themselves in Peter and the many other webheads' struggles and relate to them. The Spider Gwen/Ghost Spider character was not initially conceived for a trans-coded narrative, as she was just a popular part of a crossover oneshot, but I really like what Across the Spiderverse does for the character here. Even the "cannon event" discussion could parallel how people are forced to adhere to a certain mold, which a lot of us just don't feel like we fit into that mold. The current title of Gwen's current comics also stands out since it's one of the few times where a Spider Title is completely gender neutral. Aside from a few obscure one-offs, most of the major Spider heroes' titles are reffered to by "man" or "woman", but the current Ghost Spider name doesn't fall into any of those. Ultimately it's down to interpretation, but the decisions used to flesh out an alternate take on someone who used to just be Peter's tragic love interest are still fascinating.

J'ai perdu foi en l'humanité plusieurs fois en regardant cette video c'est assez impressionnant. Pourquoi on ne fout pas la paix aux trans? Envie de crever quand on y pense , mais c'est le jeu, j'imagine. Good video though, great work!

The flag in the uniform is not actually a flag, the colours in her universe shift and change all the time, in that those moments they just happen to be the trans flag colours in the trans flag order, of course this is an animated film so nothing just happens for no reason :)
