Dizi Does Downhill

Dizi Does Downhill

Hi I’m Jon and along with mum and our husky Dizi, we’re excitedly looking to get our kids into mountain biking. We will do reviews of our bikes, our mountain biking trips and our progress as we learn new skills!

We want to encourage Mils and Dex to understand how their bikes work and to get involved with maintaining and fixing their bikes.

There will be tears but we hope this will be a life long journey for us as a family.

    With this hub you have the option to change to 72 point 6 pawl engagement. I'm pretty sure it's a similar price too. Bearpawls is a Taiwanese company that makes the hubs for Specialized. You can change to 3 pawls 36 point, 4 pawls 36 point, 6 pawls 72point, or I beleive you can also change to a ratchet system similar to DT Swiss but I'm not sure how you would remove the ratchet ring, and I'm not sure if the parts are interchangeable with DT Swiss. I'm not 100% sure but I think the rims are Alexrims. I had a Kenevo ebike with Roval rims and they were terrible for dings. So far these wheels seem more solid.

    Anyone using the RakAttach with Velocirax? 1Up and Velocirax both advise against this setup (I've spoken with each over the phone). I have a Ford Transit 350 with the Velocirax 7 and can't access the barn doors at all. I've tried an 8" hitch extender which doesn't improve barn door access enough to justify the rack sticking out that far. Currently have to unload the entire Velocirax to access the barn doors. Ugh. Also, 1Up has moved on to RakAttach 2.0 exclusively. Thoughts?

I just purchased a new 2022 Turbo Levo (yes.. a new 2022 in 2024!) that has the exact same fork/shock as your Stumpjumper showcased in the video, so it gave me a much better understanding of what to expect and what to do while setting it up the suspension for my own needs.

    I think my anti wobble was improperly machined as well. The bolt should thread all the way in so that the bolt head is snug against the hitch correct?

  • @dizidoesdownhill

    That’s the way I used it. Otherwise the internal plate won’t pull snug against the hitch. My second pin stripped as well after using it last summer. Seems pretty softly made for such a rugged product.

    What a great well put together video. I only weigh 49kg and so sympathise with Mili. The young and the featherweight adults seem to be forgotten about by suspension manufacturers. I thought there must be lots of young lightweight mountain bikers struggling to get fork setup dialled correctly. This was great information and I see you found out there are two tokens/spacers already in these forks, which I wanted to know - thank you. I'm intending to take one out because the ride feels too harsh. Did you end up doing that for Mili?

  • @dizidoesdownhill
    @dizidoesdownhill5 ай бұрын

    Many thanks for the very kind words! I did take out one of the tokens. I think it helped smooth things out a bit for Mili but without riding it myself it’s difficult to get a real sense of the difference. Let’s hope the smaller folks are better looked after in the future as there is indeed a big hole here. Thanks again

I've decided to buy new forks which can be adapted and professionally tuned to my weight. An expensive option but I've only got one set of wrists. I'm buying Manitou Mattock Pro forks. Also the tuning engineer I spoke with told me to take out all 3 of the tokens out of my current Fox 36 Rhythm forks.

    I had exactly the same problem on my new T7 and after watching your great detailed video I am glad I am not alone. Clearly a build fault BIKES ONLINE. It would make sense to just upgrade the lever to a tranzX from the manufacturing side. I spent 2 hours trying to get that cable out of the lever. I did in the end, but the stock lever isn't great. They have at least offered to get a new one. Cheers.

  • @dizidoesdownhill
    @dizidoesdownhill7 ай бұрын

    Hey Brett, thanks for checking out the video. Droppers can be temperamental at the best of times and this one is not the best designed. Couple that with the small bike frame and the tighter routing angles and it’s a fiddle. And the stock lever could definitely be improved. But overall it’s a great bike for the money. I hope you enjoy!

  • @dizidoesdownhill

    Hi Jose, I think the D24 would be too small for a 5ft person. Dex is now just over 4’10” and we’ve put him on a Specialized size S1 which I think is essentially somewhere between XS and S. He is able to ride it quite happily but I think he’ll be happier when he is a couple of j ches taller. He could’ve stayed on the D24 a little longer but it was definitely close to the limit at 4’10”. Good luck with your searches.

    It’s a solid allrounder. Less slack / shorter travel bikes tend to climb better but this bike certainly can climb.
