I was looking for newspaper articles on my grandmother, and found one from the Hinton Daily News from October 1915 that said she left for Beury where she would teach the next year. Great to see what is left of the town. I had never heard of it.

Except the recycling yard won't take them in cube form here in Spokane Washington because you can hide a lead brick in them.

Please spell out the name of the machine (no name given in description, and he said can crusher 3000 isn’t it’s real name). Gas powered would be a joke for occasional home users-a lot of stale gas

That was always an awesome sight and fun to raft, did it often in late 80's and early 90's. It has changed, ran it again not long ago, easy and quiet put in, now they have self bailing rafts (beats the hell out of using a 5 gallon bucket) and they like to "surf" rapids (I don't enjoy that, don't see the point). That is the best river to run if you like adrenaline highs, it still holds up, highly recommended for anyone that enjoys rafting.

Just did the lower Gauley last weekend with my son and his buddies. I'm 57. Upper and lower mash are a BLAST!! As intimidating as it is, if you get set right, it's a smile so big the river can't knock it off. You gotta stay focused and listen to your guide! JoBo is an absolute BEAST of a guide! I will request him if I ever get to go again!! That man knows this river!!!

I just did my first class 5 in a river with high volume. Its in maine and it normally runs 5k cfs but it was at 8 so it was crazy. We did surfing and almost flipped but stayed safe. There was i think 5 class 5s and 8 class 4s it was pretty fun and crazy. The captain had amazing control of the boat and us and he had only done it for 3 years

In the 1980s I made a couple of trips to Hawk's Nest State Park. Camping and fishing was main purpose. There was a road through the park. Towards its end, there were several cabins that one could lodge in. But that road, in a less improved manner, went close to all the way down to the river. There was a wide place at bottom to turn around in, or to park one's vehicle. I would park there and then a short hike further. As I recall, we would cross a railroad, then a short hike through a ribbon of woods, and one was at the river. There was a railroad bridge further downstream, but not a real short distance. The river provided several white sand beaches to pitch a tent at. Did so. There was also an abandoned town there, a ghost town. The lone parts of a building left standing was a church, the sides that held the roof in place were still there. The whole area was all covered in brush, but with very little rooting around you could find all kinds of broken bottles. I was told that it was an old town that grew up around Prohibition and was where government people came to party. Advance word would come up the railroad about "revenuers". Although well practiced in internet research, I can not find any reference to this at all anymore. Plus, I think some development there has changed things quite a bit. Fascinating bit of history--West Virginia ghost towns.
