Cool. I’ve just bought one of these. It appears to be working BUT there are no speakers. Do you know what speakers this needs (W/Ohms)?

I still have my Akai 1710W I purchased in Malaysia 1n 1968. I still use it as I have about 30+ recorded 7.5" Reels. The only thing I've ever had to replace is the original Hold-on's with Metal Clips. 2.5 hour per side. Great for when I'm working in the Shed

My AKAI X201D reel to reel recorder 3 motor auto reverse has given up working. Due to a very hot summer, the breaking system between the driving motors is worn out . I'm actually looking for a good working replacement. I'm living in Antwerp Belgium. I have about 120 tapes (7 inch-18cm)recorded and like to play them again.

Very nice! I have a large reel to reel tape deck collection from all different manufacturers and quality levels. I love servicing and using them, they’re like poetry in motion when properly set up and dialed in! This particular model has a fairly decent power amp section and can sound surprisingly good with external bookshelf speakers. The Sony decks with more powerful built in amps had separate bass & treble controls, whereas the cheaper models with low powered amplifiers had a single tone control.

Between 1972 and 1976. I just got one (4000DS) that a neighbor was about to toss in the trash along with some reels. Took it home, plugged it in and everything works. I was surprised to see how new it looked after cleaning it, not a scratch, it was very well cared for.

Great tape recorder! I recently bought myself an AKAI 1710 (without W). But he doesn't have a 7 1/2 Capstan Speed Sleeve and I'm in a lot of pain. I can't listen to my old records. I hope to find the dimensions and make.

I had the same basic deck for almost a decade before it died. It was the 4400DS "convert-a-deck" which added speakers and amp for them. Very solid deck and I'm sure mine was repairable but I moved on to cassettes by this time and actually threw mine in the trash I'm ashamed to say.

My first R2R was a Sony TC-630D. It came without the built-in amp and speakers. It was a beautiful machine. I sold it in order to get into the 10" game. I bought a Teac X-2000R that is still running strong. I'll always have a soft spot for the TC-630D though!
