  Strange isn't it 1970's to 2003 I would say is when peak UK/Ire comedy hit its heights, not trying to join the dots but the advent of the internet and now social media has killed comedy (esp in the younger generation) all 5 of these people were in their late 20's here (1994) could you see this generation now writing something so astute and observational, it's all shoe horned in sjw, identity politics and hence why the current state of comedy/TV is dogshit...esp C4/BBC3

  The only thing I'd change about the character is make him go back to the way he was depicted in the pilot. I don't want him to be incompetent and helpless without his .44. He should basically be an outright parody of Dirty Harry (which he is on the surface) and a caricature of the character. A hothead who has zero sympathy for criminals (doesn't matter if he or she is actually a criminal), resorts to extreme violence and thrives in it, and is actually smart and competent. The only thing that makes him laughable is that he's stupid not in the fact that he's unintelligent but refuses to adapt to the modern world, leaves no room for broadening his horizons, and is set in his ways - and that's what makes him look stupid and sabotages his in-universe image, and that's why the audience loves him. He was stripped of this blueprint as the series progressed.

  This episode inspired me to take up painting very crude watercolours. Kicking Bishop Brennan Up The Arse is the joint best episode with Are You Alright There Father Ted IMHO. Comedy platinum.

  As classic as this show is, this is very much a "time capsule" sitcom that you couldn't reboot or remake today because, like Get Smart, it's a parody of an action subgenre from a bygone era.
