    Loops are always a little bit quieter on noise. A bit surprising is the delta loops seems to be about +3dB better than the EFHW in most tests. To me this suggest you might be able to optimize the EFHW inverted-L installation. Grounding and heavy choking at the feedpoint is probably near optimal with the transformer fairly close to the ground. Steve Ellington tested 6 or 8 configurations of grounding, choking, and counterpoise wires. He used a field strength meter and RF ammeter. I've seen more rigorous and sophisticated testing that suggests the heavy choking should be about 2m from the transformer feedpoint. See MO0OPX, Evil Lair, and Survival Comms. They document 90% or better efficiency on all bands with an insertion loss from 0.2dB to 0.6dB on all bands. They however used a non-standard 43 mix torroid that is almost a bead, so its pretty chunky and they use close winding autotransformer w/o a crossover.

  • @JayN4GO
    @JayN4GO22 күн бұрын

    @@vironpayne3405 thanks! Yeah the loop is just a better performance antenna for me here. I built a 52 fix auto transformer for qro based on Colin’s findings. It works well but still about 3-5 s units lower than the loop. I have since increased the height on the tower so the inverted L is about 41 ft vertical and a bit under 100’ straight. It handles 1200w Cw without reaching curry temps. I have found that the efhw works better flat topped. “About equal to the loop”. It’s a lot of fun trying different things.

    I'm sure the SKCC would disagree with your "lids" comment. Straight key users are not "lids" but to each their own. Unfortunately A huge portion of contesters use computers to send and receive which is a shame but for those that put in the work and get proficient at high speed code it is something to aspire to.

  • @JayN4GO
    @JayN4GO22 күн бұрын

    @@Tom-W7TMD it’s not a slam against the skcc. As mentioned in the video. Skcc is great place to optimize your learning process. There are a few good contesters that use a bug. Some use a sk but they’re aren’t putting up real scores. Hence it’s called a contest. The most points wins. That’s why you hear high speed computer Cw or even 2 at one time running the big 4 contest. Straight keys are fun and there are a place for them. I enjoy the sprints as well with my junker and flameproof. If I did a 36 hour contest with them my arm would fall off 1 hour into it. Being practical for what you enjoy doing is the key to fun and success.

    Yes ! I rxed my error report from Cq wpx and my error rate was 6%. With most of them being busted numbers. Mainly 2,3 and 6,7s. I’ve struggled with this for years now. I don’t think Morse runner has an accurate run for practicing numbers. It always starts at 1. I need practice with 4 digit numbers with some cut numbers thrown in. 😂 maybe rufXP would work better for that. Sending with good paddles help a bit but my number is 3239. I always screw that up man. @@u2fanforever1 yeah more of a lazy L. It works ok. I found it to work better with the unun about 12-15ft above ground and obviously the radiator higher. The 40m delta loop is about 4 s units better on 40. The L does well on 20 and 15. 80 is mediocre at best as well as 10. Oddly this antenna works well on 30 and 17.
