    Maybe you could check the compression in the cylinder. Low compression can also prevent the engine from starting.

    It probably would be much sharper if you hadn't cut all that dirt with it. Fastest way to full a chain.

    I'm sitting here in tears as I write this... thank you so much for this video!!! I'm a 50 year woman living with MS, and with your video I was able to fix my lawn mower and keep a bit of the independence I have left. Saying thank you doesn't come close to conveying my gratitude, but know from my bottom of my heart I say thank you!!!

    Good video, but there's a simpler way that does not require removing the bar, side cover and gas tank. Search for "How to change a carburetor on A Stihl ms180c" on the "cheap homesteading" channel.

    i've worked on the c models and now working on a regular ms170. wants to fire with some carb cleaner but won't run. i suspect its the carburetor. Saw is not that old and looks like it hasn't been used much. is this a issue with the ms170 ? carburetor issue ?

  • @HipaParts
    @HipaParts9 күн бұрын

    If the chainsaw gets the spark then probably it's the carburetor issue. Did you try to clean the carburetor and check the diaphragm?

    So what happens when you adjust the valve clearance on both cylinders and it still turns over very slowly? Does that mean your crankshaft is bad? I already replaced the battery, solenoid and starter. Completely checked all wiring for shorts and tight ground wires. Valve adjustment is the last possible problem other than the crankshaft.

    May I Ask, what about just cleaning the existing carby instead of replacing it? Many thanks

  • @HipaParts
    @HipaParts16 күн бұрын

    You could just cleaning the carburetor. Sometimes the diaphrams and needle seal inside the carburetor may get problem and need a replacement. The carburetor is very affordable nowadays. Some of them are below $15. If you feel it's not worth spending too much time cleaning the carburetor, buying a new one is also cost-effective

    Eddie, I'm having a hard time finding the right part (coil ignition replacement) for a old 2003 craftsman Briggs and Stratton 625 190cc 917 series push mower? Can I just get a coil that fits the screw holes? I'm a woman and have to do everything myself. Can you help explain if I can interchange the old coil with another Briggs and Stratton coil?

  • @Harold-si7eh
    @Harold-si7eh17 күн бұрын

    If you have replaced the coil and still no spark check that spark plug is tight to ground,seat switch under neath,clutch Pedal switch,defective ignition key switch and if your rider has a off safe level switch will kill engine also known as a Incline switch for rollovers!!!

    WOW! Just came across this video and what a Godsend. My local small engine shop wanted $125 to do this and with your help I did it myself. Along with that, I rewarded myself with a cold beer afterwards. Great video. Straight to the point with no filler material. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with those of us that don't know, but are willing to learn. I'll make sure to pass this knowledge on.

    So many videos about this procedure seems to focus on the valve clearance. Getting the engine to TDC is the most important step I believe. Without that all is lost.

    That small twin hole spacer under the coil is typically a thermal bridge to reduce the heat from the cylinder from migrating into the coil and it’s electronics… yes the fasteners do act as sinks buy less than a direct placement…

    Another reason I found out the hard way was when cutting multiple small branches like on a cedar tree to get a clear path to the trunk, if you go to fast these small branches can knock the chain around and dislodge it.

    Maybe I missed it but since the ignition coil is in a fixed position due to 2 screws, is their a specific rotaional position for the flywheel? In other words is it important to "line up" the flywheel with say the, "on center point" of the ignition coil?

  • @brandonhebert5485
    @brandonhebert548526 күн бұрын

    Just rotate the flywheel until the coil is against the magnets of the flywheel. There are not magnets all the way around, just in one small area.

    I have a generator which sat for a few years on old gas. It now starts up with starting fluid only, but only for a few seconds. Is this likely a gummed carb? Or wouldn't it run at all even with the starting fluid if that were the case?

    Looks like the MS 180C shaft bracket could do with a small bit of JB Weld to bridge that gap under it. This would immeasurable strengthen that 'C' bracket. That would ruin your day if the case had to be replaced.

    Fifteen years ago I heard about the easy start feature and went down to my dealer (closed down a couple of years ago) and bought an MS 170 just for it. I specified that I wanted that feature. I could not tell since it is not listed in the manual or any paperwork and it certainly did not feel like an easy start a friend had. Took it back down and he assured me it was an easy start. To this day I do not think it is (I almost never use it). How do you tell for sure if it is or is not? They are supposed to have a compression release if they are not easy starts but again nothing is mentioned in print about either.
