Did you stay in a Airbnb during your trip? Hotel? I want to plan a trip and looking for a place to stay. Any recommendations?
I camped out for two weeks along the river just north of Moab! There are loads and loads of places to either camp or grab a hotel. Also, Pro Tip- if you are camping one of the bike shops in town sells showers for 8 bucks. Theres also a spring next to the highway on the north end of town if you need to fill up water jugs!
I would seriously look at increasing the fly wheel weight would increase the inertia of the engine and give you a better ride . No detriment to the engine just a plus cheer for the vid. Wish we had such awesome trails in New Zealander America is such a diverse environment so big cheers
Thats not a bad idea. It would definitely help reduce how often I was stalling.. For now I am gonna re-gear the bike and see if it helps, but if I still have the same problems, then a flywheel could be a smart move! America just has such a wide wide variety of areas to explore! Its really an amazing place to be a dirt bike rider. Someday I hope to visit NZ though!
How"s the knee ? Is there a knee brace you wish you would of been wearing ? I"m a new rider, a little old (68) . GREAT VIDEO"S !!!
Glad you like the videos!! I think for recovery, a knee brace would have been really nice, but when it comes to the actual ride, I prefer to ride without any kind of brace or knee guard at all. I always found that elbow and knee pads just restricted my movement and made life harder. Though, once I got back home and back to editing, a recovery brace for my knee would have helped a lot!
If you get a chance you would love Top of The World trail, just N of Moab. it's a somewhat challenging ride to a top of the world view.
That was one on my bucket list!! Sadly after two weeks, I ran out of time to ride that area too. Good news is I left some good trails to come back to.
Love the video. Cant tell you how many times Ive accidentally left my blinker on😮 9:50
Dude I do it so much and its so frustrating when I see it while I am editing 🤣🤣 I feel better I'm not the only one hahahaha Stoked you liked the video man!!
Your videos will be taken down from KZread by a group of BMW, Honda and Yamaha dealers who are selling GS1300, Transalps and Tenere bikes to middle aged meatballs who think this is just a Klim jacket and some Sidi boots away!!
HAHAHAHAHA!!
Nice job brofessor. Does anyone use trials type tires on them bigger bikes anymore? Used to be kind of a deal several years ago. Great skills bud. Thanks for the video.
I have seen what you're talking about, but I havn't seen them out in Moab so far. I would imagine for some trails it could be a big advantage to run those tires tho.
Another outstanding video... great work, man.
Thanks man!!
Okay - my sons and I have been watching your videos for a few days now. Outstanding production quality-love the variety of camera angles, use of the drone, and the audio is excellent. But we are divided: some of us think you’re trolling your audience, pretending to be a worse rider than you really are, and some of us think you’re shooting straight. Personally, I can’t decide. You have moments of brilliance where you demonstrate perfect clutch control, body positioning, and you easily lift your front wheel over obstacles and flow up technical sections smoothly. But then you’ll stall out because you go into a minor feature with impossibly low speed. It’s almost like you’re sabotaging yourself by overthinking, looking immediately in front of you rather than farther ahead. I’m honestly not trying to troll you or disrespect you. I love your passion and your production quality is absolutely top notch. Crack that throttle open. Carry speed. Look ahead (not down) and let it rip. Peace, brother.
😂😂😂 you’re killing me man Okay so here’s the honest to god truth- I’ve been riding for 10 years (started out as an MX rider) but it’s my very first riding trip to Moab and I should have made a lot of changes to my bike. Most specifically my gearing. A video series I shot last year I was ADV riding and I changed my gearing for more long dirt roads. I was lazy before going on this trip and I should have regeared my bike. If I had I wouldn’t have stalled out so much. I like to think I’m a pretty decent rider, but my laziness to make that change on my bike really hurt in the long run. I’m making those changes to my bike before new videos are coming out after the Moab series🤙🏼 Stoked you and your family enjoy the videos! A lot of work goes into the filming and editing 🤟🏼
I think what you're seeing is a pretty good rider trying to figure out how to ride a completely different terrain than he is used to. I don't know if you have ever ridden in Moab before but it's completely different than most other places.
@@charlesr9110 Moab was by far one of the most unique places I have ever ridden. It felt like half of my riding skills just didn't even apply down there.
@@charlesr9110 Yes, I have a lot of experience riding Moab. Agreed that the terrain is different, but I honestly don’t think that’s it in this case. But I’ve said my piece and want to keep it respectful.
@@s2pointoh Normally when we ride alone,, we are more conservative , which can be good and bad.. Just an extra MPH can help clear many features.. Remeber speed is your friend , until you fall
amazing story ;)
Thank you! I hope you like the whole series 🤙🏼
This clip gave me some good dose of anxiety 😬😬 Props to you for doing this buddy!
🤟🏼🤟🏼
Great trail
Some advices fron a Trial rider: 1) find a stable rock to place you rear wheel, avoiding to dig into the gravel. 2) use a low gear because on those types of terrain the key to start mooving is to avoid abrupt accelleration of the wheel. 3) stay stood up, mooving your body to mantain the centre of gravity always on the rear wheel, absorbing the steps to mantain the traccion.
Great video
I wonder if a Rokon would be a better option on this trail since it is a two-wheel drive inline vertical motorcycle
I’ve seen a few of those before! They’re super low to the ground too. Would probably be easy to ride that trail with one!
That hill climb wasn't beyond your abilities...... you were just too tired. Moab will do that to you. Chews you up and spits you out! Since my buddies and I started our yearly trek to Moab back in 2011, we've decided that riding two days, taking a day off, and riding two days is the perfect blend. (And an easy trail doesn't count for a day off) You rode some of the toughest Moab had to offer..... pretty darned impressive. Great rides Jack.......BTW, will you show me on a map where that tough climb is? I'd like to give it a go. 😊
Hahahaha I was down there for 2 weeks filming almost every day except for a couple of editing days. It definitely got progressively harder to keep the energy up and carry the 40 lb pack vest with all my gear.. I think your tactics are really good for going out there. The next time I go there I'll have to follow a similar schedule for sure. Thanks for the support! Its hard enough to ride out there, but filming it too makes it a whole other battle.. Its relatively easy to find! So according to the comments it is called Rose Garden Hill and you can get to it by following onion creek all the way out of the canyon and onto the plateau. Then once you make it to the plateau, follow the trail until you get close to the ridges in front of you and there is a trail that juts off to the left. Just follow that and you'll get right to it! If I go back, I'm gonna air down my tires 30 percent and change my gearing and then I think its doable! Theres that a lot of that silty sand on top of the rock too so its extra slick. You might even have an advantage if it rains the day or two before you go! Good luck!!
At first I thought it didn't look as bad as you were making it look. Then reading in the comments, I realized this is Rose Garden Hill. So the camera is not doing it justice. This Jeep road is way harder than it appears. I've done it on an XR250, but only with a friend helping me lift it over all the ledges. The proper way is to get more forward momentum and keep your RPMs up. You can't do this slowly.
Yeah I agree that I probably should have tried to keep momentum up better. My issue is that I was riding a FE501s which is one of the most powerful motors Husqvarna offers and when it catches traction it can loop out from under you. So I was trying to go jusst slow enough to be able to pick my lines as I was going up (cuz you can't see the whole hill from the bottom and plan your lines). I was in 3rd feathering the clutch too so that I would keep the torque a bit more manageable too. Either way tho, that hill whooped me 🤣🤣
at last a very good use and useful point of view from drone.
I just ordered this for my DR650. im excited to put that on!
Sweeeeet! It’s gonna look awesome on that DR 🤟🏼
BEST video on this trail I’ve seen yet! ROCK ON, love your videos.
Wholly shit not a cool place to be.
Man I can feel your exhaustion from just watching 😂😢😮
it was brutal man hahahaha
Assuming there is no rocks in the big puddle, only to break my back in two spots
Oh man you broke your back in two spots??
Mans got the stength! Good job dude!
Good thing he was riding with ya.
That Husky has a first gear to die for! Smooth over the rough. Until I bought my WR-450 all my bikes were track bikes - RM's, YZ's, RMZ's, etc. In no way were they as polite as that Husky in 1st, and I'm pretty sure they sit higher. That WR-450 has a bit higher 1st than yours but sure beats the track bikes. Looks like you found another sand/dust coated boulder heaven! An yeah those boulders are just waiting to grind off bits and pieces of you bike, if not major gashing. LoL. Anyhow - another awesome video.
Stoked you liked the video man!! I really like 1st gear on the husky. 2nd gear is where it becomes a bit of a handful on the rocky stuff lol. Its almost better for me to run things in 3rd even at slow speeds and feather the clutch. Tho if I am doing serious rock crawling then odds are I'm in 1st. Im sure those track bikes would have been tough out on those rocks. Probably way lighter weight but probably a bit jumpy. I'm tellin you dude moab is a freaking grinding stone!! My 501 has needed so much tlc lol
You need to buy a trials bike and learn how to ride it. It will make it much easier to control the clutch and pick lines.
😂😂 I need to air down 30 percent and change my gearing from 16/50 to 15/48 🤟🏼
nothing like good old rose bud hill. i did it once upon a time on an atv, that was adventurous enough. i can't imagine what fun a heavy adventure bike would be. kzread.info/dash/bejne/X45szLmxkdbKkZM.html
Thats crazy to see it in the winter time!!!
MY absolute favorite ep. Love the music at the top of Burnt Knob!
Honestly, THE BEST BDR series out there! Just AWESOME!
Awesome video. I bought a ‘22 TE300 to get back into riding and I only end up riding forest roads, and jeep trails due to my wife preferring 4 wheels. I wonder if this platform would be more enjoyable or versatile for where and what I tend to ride. I suck at riding so going single track alone doesn’t seem like the best option lol
Thanks! The 300 is definitely a single track oriented machine for sure. If all the riding I was doing was that, then I would stick to just that bike. I love the 501 because it is as close to being the best of both worlds as I can get. I ride adv, on the street, single track, and more. I just got back from riding some of the gnarliest trails in moab on that bike too. Tho I admit I got whooped by those rocks in moab hahahaha.
It is amazing how much a disservice a camera can do. I once was in a similar situation with a CRF250L. I just about had it out, and then a slight slip while wreslting caused me to end up worse off. The ride turned out to be a bit of an epic that day. I watched your episode with that incident. That looks like a trail that needs a redemption ride. Let me know when.
I totally agree! The cameras never show it for what it was.. It sounds like we both had a similar experience lol Oh I'll be back in Utah someday. I'll likely make an announcement on the channel next time I'm there🤟🏻
That sucks, of all the places on that trail you had to stop. In a place where it's a 4 ft away from the trial your bike practically upside down, deep enough where you can't get any leverage, normally that kind of tip over would be nothing on a regular trail, but a Moab hillclimb with Boulder's lots of them, slick rock, off camber hot, cactus......etc. That said. I like your adventures I like your channel I just wish sometimes you would say which Trail you're on, I understand persevering and if u can do it so can we, but a lot of people know lots of trails, they're to lazy to ride them, so really, not that many will bag on u.
Yeah it was a really rough situation! Actually, this trail I didn't know the trail name at all until after I had published the longform video. This was Rose Garden Hill in Moab.
👏👏👏
I love you put “on a dual sport” in the caption as though it’s harder. The FE501 is an enduro dirtbike with turn signals and it is in my top 10 choices for a cross desert enduro bike.
Have you ever ridden prichett?
Awesome view. My old ass could ride my 300l or my himalayan on that ride. Thanks for the video dude.
😂🤟🏼 That’s a perfect ride for those bikes dude! Get down there and go explore the area!
it was quite a challenge indeed! (and the drone just watched and didn't help, what a jerk!! :D )
😂😂😂😂
U know a lower gear would help just a bit
The problem is I’m riding a 501 and so it’s extremely torquey. It’s better to ride it a gear up and feather the clutch than risk looping out (on some) areas. I probably coulda dropped a gear here but I didn’t want to go up the hill fast since I could rlly pick my lines from the bottom. Had to go slow enough to pick my lines as I went 🤙🏼
Hah. That's a 2 lane highway compared to the shit at Gifford Pinchot.
Where’s that trail at?
I was just on onion creek last week on my new T7. Moab is just unreal.
How’re you liking your new t7?? OC is an amazing spot 🤟🏼
@@madjack_757 Good so far. It's very top heavy and that makes me a little nervous. The cp2 engine is fantastic. I only do easy stuff on the T7. I have a KTM 500 for the hard stuff.
@PaulCsomething yeah I think that’s a good setup. Split time on each bike depending on the terrain you’re on. I’d probably do the same if I ever had a t7. Interesting that they’re top heavy.
@@madjack_757 It has a metal gas tank up high like a dirt bike. The 890 has the saddle bag tank that moves the weight lower.
I gotta imagine where they set the weight on those full size bikes makes such a difference too
Sometimes a little speed can be your friend on things like this
The biggest challenge is keeping up speed, but going slow enough to pick your lines on the rocks 🤙🏼
Youre teasing us with these little clips, lol😊
dont you have a little bit too big gesr for the hill or is it just the 4 stroke sound that makes it sound like youre in like third
I was thinking that too. Expecting him to down shift any second
He's feathering the clutch in first. You can't ride that high a gear over technical hill climbs on a 501. I'll do a fast hill climb in second but not on that gnarly crap.
@@RayzGarage Spot on! The 501 is a bit too torquey to run in the low gears on the rocks. Its safer to risk stalling than looping out.
I used to ride through stuff like that it's not easy.
Xr 80 hill 😅
😮👀🫣👏👏👏❤️ stay safe.
Pin it to win it!
Momentum is your friend, snick it up a gear and get on the pegs, good luck
Moab was such a learning curve for me! I’m next time I go back I’m gonna try to stick to that advice 🤟🏼
@@madjack_757 that was a wicked looking hill climb for sure and especially on a dualsport. I rode in Florida and pretty much all flat then we went to Alabama and when I got on the rocks an mountain climbs the first time it was seriously intimidating but eventually it was super fun but challenging. Tire pressure is key and always keep your momentum up , feet on the pegs, butt off the seat and head over the bars, spot your lines but be ready to adjust your lines to keep moving forward, loosing speed and stopping usually means going back down and taking another stab at it, possibly several times 😁. I rode a 200 GasGas so speed was always key, vs a 250 or bigger where you have more torque. I hope you had a blast and made some great memories.
@@ramcclure200 Oh yeah even with all the crashing and battling the rocks, riding out there was such a cool experience. Even if it sounds like I am struggling, I love the challenge. You should check out Moab sometime dude! It is incredible. In hindsight, if I wanted to make it to the top of that hill, I ought to have gone down and take another crack at it. I was kinda thinking in my mind tho that it just wasn't adv bike friendly so if I went back down I'd probably just leave since my buddy's bike couldn't make it up that.
@@madjack_757 any day riding is a Great Day, I’m glad y’all had fun. My riding days are sadly behind me, I got old and my hands and eyes just didn’t hold up like I would’ve hoped but it was fun while it lasted.
I agree. I hope to spend my good days doing the same as you and make the most of each day spent in the saddle. I hope at least with this channel I can bring you along for the ride.
Gotta hit that shit with some speed!
It was so tough cuz I wanted to go fast but I had to give enough time to pick my lines too! It was gnarly as hell 🤟🏼
Lower your air pressure and remember speed is you friend!💪🍻🇺🇸✝️🙏
🤟🏼🤟🏼
