Kieran O'Keeffe - My Snowboard Journey
Kieran O'Keeffe - My Snowboard Journey
This Channel will be used to document "My Snowboard Journey" from a Snowboarding beginner/enthusiast to a Qualified Snowboard Instructor. Content will contain footage of my riding, funny bits, the highs, the lows, my snowboard clothing, equipment and tips and tricks that have helped me improve my riding. Hopefully by sharing this I can also improve your snowboard skills too.
My current goal is to complete and pass my CASI Level 1 & Level 2 in Canada in January 2025.
I will be riding and improving as much as I can between now and my exams. I have 3 holidays booked this season and have access to the Indoor Snow Centre at Hemel.
I can't wait to share this experience with you all.
My name is Kieran and THIS IS, MY SNOWBOARD JOURNEY !

I went on 5 Ski trip resorts and got 2TB of footage, so I upload a new video every day, this was filmed in Feb 2024 I think
Nice run! Accept Jesus :)

Bro you got the heels carve which is harder! On your toes just go faster a bit and initialte it at the beginning of the turn... Make sure your chins are pushed forward and perhaps your belly forward too. You got this!
Everyone says its harder, why am I so weird?! Yea you are right I do need more speed as I get nervous toe side and slow down. Will give it a go and report back 😁
Is that val,disere in france
It is France but Serre Chevalier, Looking forward to next season?
@KieranMySnowboardJourney ye man good look hope u get a good snow man best of luck
@@user-cn9hi1vl1w yea gona be a good one!
Is this at mammoth
Serre Chevalier
Brave
Scary but too good not to
Im noone to judge since im kind of a beginner, but my instructor always told me not to use my arms, even tho it makes me feel more safe to steer like that. I had to board with my hands behind my back to get used to it :D Keep up the great work, you board really good! 😄Btw. Im jella jeaulous that you're ablte snowboard that oftennnnnn
yea it is great I can do it so much, Yea my instructor said to use arms just to get the carve going and eventually work back to no hands
@@KieranMySnowboardJourney told you in a noobie. Haven’t thought about you doing it for carving 😅 Keep up the great work!
@@mosourth5904 I think it is more for balance or counter weighting more than anything else
Hi Kieran what badge did you get after this lesson?
badge, what do you mean?
@@KieranMySnowboardJourney Like the ESF Medals for example, Snowboard Discovery, Snowboard 1 Cross, Snowboard 2 Cross etc
@@JosephsSnowboardChannel No idea man, he said on the system of 9 level I was a high 6 or low 7? never got any medals
Most of people cant do what you do. Speed is key my friend, you need to hit theses boxes faster. It may sound crazy but it will make the slide smoother and easier and you can then start doing board slides, nose presses, tail presses, 180s out etc. Patience and practice.
will endeavour to do better!
love the content keep it up! also subsribed 😄
Much appreciated!!! I still have another whole trip to edit =D
What for tho? For training faster turns? :D
Mainly fun, we didn't quite get this going but you can get into a really good spin hence circle of death
It doesn't matter if you're good or bad. The most important thing about snowboarding is that you have fun 😉
I mean I have plenty of fun but just from a 3rd person view I guess I don't look cool lol - get better every day
Love serre chevalier ❤️
Yea its so good man and we had such good weather when we were there
Gotta go fast 💨
I am hoping to get my BASI Level 1 next year, I am now on 3 stars snowboarding esf. And I am doing a a ski season in whistle this season coming up
Oh Wow, I cam off to do my CASI Level 1 & 2 this Jan 2025, we can keep track of each others progress
@@KieranMySnowboardJourney Ah that's awesome!! I followed you on Instagram by the way as well! Defo, let me know how your snowboarding comes along, who knows i might meet you at hemel!

Hey, Awesome video!! I am new to your channel and I subscribed! Keep it up!!
Thank you so much, means a lot, Welcome Welcome
Sort of yeah, but the key is that you keep going and get better. Try to hit a 90 onto those boxes to start preping for rails!
Brutally Honest, Love it! Yea they do some indoor stuff at my local centre so will keep trying
Nice looking terrain to train in. Just a bit of advice for your snowboarding journey, DOPE snow gear will get people against you before meeting you. As well as other brands that don't give back to snowboarding. Keep charging hard and scare yourself once a day on your board
Scare myself once per day ! I was scaring myself once per run back then LMAO
I love how well the camera captures everything ❤❤
Yea its great, editing is a pain though
Its a skill issue both ways
People swoop the whole groomer allllll the time but they still have the right away. Get better at reading riders body language or slow down and pass with more cation and yell what side you are passing on as you approach and pass. Bam that’s the best answer prove me wrong.
You are 100% right, This video was filmed months ago now, as I have got quicker and over take people I was calling Left or right in English, German & French when over taking and people do just move out of your way - so YES you are spot on
Yellow card
Ref! Send her off
For diving
@@Catoutgamming oh Dam LOL, I was through on goal, she stopped a goal scoring opportunity XD
Should I give her a red card it was pretty bad 🟥
@@Catoutgamming If the netting wasn't there....I recon someone would have died lol
Anyone blaming the boarder is delusional
I dunno but I thought it was the person higher up the hill had duty of care ...
@@KieranMySnowboardJourney absolutely correct, especially on a catwalk. The onus to yield is on the uphill skier/boarder
@@funkychinaman7118 well, seeing the comments either people don't know OR just really want to RIP on Snowboarders
Barking up the wrong tree 😂
You are totally rigth Bro.
Bro that's ur fault I ski race professionally and hate when I'm trying to go fast to get to my race or catch up with my group and there's that stupid snowboarder taking up the whole lane. That's on you man
Try to change sport.
It's astounding that ppl are defending the skier here
Yep! 🤦🤦🤦
How is it the skiers fault!?. My man was taking up the entire run.
@@Sideways_MTB10🤦
@@Sideways_MTB10downhill skier has right of way always bud, no exceptions. You shouldnt be skiing if you dont know this
Bro is literally blurting himself in the way of every one while carving like that in such a little room for other poeple to pass you
Y’all not hurt stand up 😂😂
Yeah he was using the majority of the run but he was continuously doing that and they did come speeding in. I’ve done both skiing and snowboarding and it’s much easier (at least from my experience) to control your speed and direction on skis than on a snowboard.
I was fairly new at the time it was recorded a while back, the run was getting really narrow for 150m or so with a cliff edge and some roped off bit, I do pull over to let people past usally but I did not expect to be overtaken at that point
Even though its the skiers fault, you were taking up most of the run, you should give people enough room especially as such low speeds and at a small area. you could have just gone straight down.
This was filmed back in Jan, Probably my 3rd ever Red run, was bricking it the whole way down, just the cliff edge made me nervous
@@KieranMySnowboardJourney yeah, you still have to be careful and aware of your surroundings. Keep in mind, 30% of people out there are idiots
😂to go straight!! Good advice🤣🤣
Сноубордист носорог
You don’t have whole path to yourself. Maybe it’s a lesson for the future.
I mean you didn’t look up hill once and you were carving from one side of that narrow run to the other.. don’t know what you expected
Don't play victim when you were taking up the whole path
Exactly… that’s 100 % snowboarders fault
Never close off the edges, leave room for folks to go around
Shut up
@@Paranormal3activityi know it sucks, but if you're trying to go around someone on a cat track like this you have to be prepared to stop if they cut you off. and if you can't stop quickly enough, you're not skilled enough to be going that fast and should slow down. skiers fault 100%
@@lulunomu Not really. Number 1 rule on ski slopes: 1. Hold on to your lane / track with many people. 2. If you want to change lane / go to right part of the slope, first look back on the right side, in case someone is approaching. You don’t go in sik-sak ….like whole slope is yours. In this case, the skiier should reduce her speed (but she wanted to keep her momentum for the flat part ahead most likely). Snowboarder assumed wrongly that nobody is coming. That’s completely wrong.
Why were you going so slow and side to side? Seemed abit unnecessary she had no where to go. Or did I see it wrong?
they were just a beginner. probably wasn't confident enough to go fast or do quick turns. not their fault
I think I chatted with you before x-mas up at Hemel. Hope you enjoyed Serre, it's a little known gem.
Hey dude! Thanks for the commend and support. So I am usually at Hemel every Tuesday night 6pm till close and then some other random days during the week(end). see you soon

I have 4 dope Jackets and they all have a Pass pocket on the left Wrist @dopesnow, have another check or send me a picture and ill sort it
Well done,,,, You're getting better!
Thank you man, So this was filmed on the 11th Jan, I had some Carving lessons 2 days later (videos coming soon). It is amazing my progress even just across 6months and its nice when other people also see it not just me ;)
It generally provides amore panaramic wider view
yea its full 360 and stitches it together, If I zoom in too much to remove the fish eyeness then the board will disappear and it will just look like a slow drone came
That was pretty awesome although i really don't like the view of fisheye lenz , is fish eye lens necessary
So even on "natural" settings it provides a semi fish eyed view which I don't really like myself but it is what it is. In later videos I have the Camera on the pole and it provides a better viewer experience rather than the head cam
Ok glad to see you one foot that..I had visions of you putting the base in the river bed and destroying the bottom of your board! 🤦♂😅
Funny you should say that, Later on in the holiday I didn't unstrap 🙄 (Video coming soon)
Exactly how I remember it. I rode this back in 2001. Nothing seems to have changed. I've tried explaining this to Americans, and they just can't comprehend it.
It was definitely an experience to be had, much easier than the T Bar, or less energy exerted anyways. 2001!!! Hope your still riding dude
In Serre Chevalier atm, amazing snow the last couple of days…if only you could make use of it! Cloud has been so heavy I could barely see my board at my feet! 🤦♂ Hoping for some clearer conditions tomorrow to enjoy Eychuda down to Les Bains!
Yea when you cant see its not that fun, yea the run down to Les Bains is really good, one of my favourites, video coming soon
