    You bought 3? OMG, you too?! LOL! I've had far too many, now I only have 15 Singers in my possession. The class 15 is great, and a 15 with a potted motor is a great purchase. What other Singers have you bought? All the best from The Netherlands.

    Hi. Thank you for your message. Do you mean catching up the lower thread? I've shown that in other videos (like this about the 401: kzread.info/dash/bejne/npar27aqn6e7ms4.htmlsi=y0HEJbVPT1n-BiCk (starting at 4'40"), but I didnt show it on the Singer 328. Here we go: Close the panel of the lower bobbin with a couple of inches thread out of it. Then thread the upper part of the thread, all the way until the needle. Now, clamp down/push the thread of the upper thread and make a full rotation with the balance wheel. The needle will pick up the lower thread. And now you're good to go. I hope this was helpful to you. Good luck!

    @@erikneek Helemaal goed.

  • @erikneek
    @erikneek3 күн бұрын

    @@mrswroclai Het woord Onderhoud hoeft niet altijd even veel te betekenen. Eigenlijk moet je de naaimachine voor ieder groot project even van olie voorzien. Dat zijn maar een paar plekken en overal maar 1 of 2 druppels olie - snelle klus dus. Wat de verkoper wellicht vergeten is om te vertellen (ahum!) is dat olie na verloop van tijd verdwijnt. Dus 4 jaar geleden onderhouden betekent helaas niet zoveel. Iedere maand ff een druppeltje olie en je bent klaar. Er zijn een paar tandwielen die je van smetvel moet voorzien. De rest is allemaal naaimachine-olie. Volgens mij geeft deze video een redelijk idee wat het inhoudt: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJyJsNZvhcWnopM.htmlsi=7cDnV805qCpdOYTA Succes, en vooral: veel plezier ermee!!!

    Hallo Erik, Dank voor je uitgebreide serie video's. Toch een vraag.....over een sub-model van de 15. (Denk ik nu) Het serienummer is 967080, zonder prefix of letters. En daarmee kom ik uit in 1873. Maar de 15 is geintroduceerd in: 1879. Dat gaat dus niet goed..... De achtergrond van deze machine is zoieso al erg interessant. Nu, in 2024, wordt hij weer gebruikt, in Dnipro, Oekraine, omdat de stroom dagelijks de nodige tijd wegvalt. Door de overgrootmoeder van de huidige gebruikster (62 jaar) in de jaren dertig tijdens hun vlucht uit duitsland meegenomen......en al die tijd in de familie gebleven. Wie hem toen heeft aangeschaft is niet meer precies duidelijk. Ze is wel benieuwd naar meer info over de machine. Foto's krijg ik op verzoek doorgestuurd. Ik vermoedt dat de voorplaat uit een latere machine komt. Want is een latere stijl, met die gepolijste strepen er op. Mijn vraag: Hoe vind ik het correcte type en/of jaartal uit?

  • @erikneek
    @erikneek5 күн бұрын

    Hallo. Dankjewel voor de reactie en het kijken naar mijn video(s). Wat een interessant verhaal. Het is wederom een bewijs dat die oude Singers niet kapot te krijgen zijn. Het zal voor de huidige gebruikers wel bijzonder zijn om met dit stukje familiegeschiedenis te kunnen werken. Ondanks de verschrikkingen van de oorlog aldaar. Over de Singer. De eerste versie van de Singer 15, de Improved Family, werd rond 1879 geintroduceerd volgens mij. Herkenbaar aan de vioolvormige naaiplaat en het spanningselement op de kopse kant. (Zie video.) Een decenium later kwam de eigenlijke Singer klasse 15 met een rechthoekige naaiplaat, maar nog steeds dat spanningselement op de kopse kant. Dat spanningselement zit ALTIJD op de kopse kant bij de Singer 15. Het serienummer doet mij vermoeden dat ze geen Singer 15 hebben, maar een Singer 12 New Family. De eerste Singer 12 New Family stamt uit 1865 ofzo. Dus dan zou het serienummer wel kunnen kloppen. De Singer 12 heeft ook een vioolvormige naaiplaat, maar een totaal ander mechanisme, vergelijkbaar met de werking van de latere Singer 48 waarvan ik ook een video heb. Foto's zullen u ongetwijfeld verder helpen. Een gek idee: Zou u een video kunnen maken van een paar shots of foto's en mij de link sturen? Ik denk graag mee. Er zijn meerdere groepen op FB over oude Singer naaimachines. Uiteraard kunt u daar ook de vraag stellen (en foto's bijsluiten). Succes!!!

    Hallo Erik. Hierbij een aantal foto's. kzread.infoUgkxluTFt_ur1I_rxmiVoxD9aAEZU7R4pyPX?si=wmVExKSE-2LoWDA1 Die 12 waar je het over hebt, is die er ook met rechthoekige basisplaat? Want om die reden dacht ik aan de 15...... De spoel is al de ronde, de smalle uitvoering. Een spoelopwinder ontbreekt (inmiddels?) dus ze schuift een spoeltje op een stokje, en drukt de rand daarvan dan tegen het vliegwiel. Werkt ook..... De naaiplaat is van een ander design dan de achterste (ronde) afdekplaat. Lijkt dus een samenstelling van onderdelen, waarbij ik vermoedt dat de ronde plaat origineel is.

  • @erikneek
    @erikneek5 күн бұрын

    @@Quesjer1 Dank voor de foto's!!! Zonder twijfel: het is een model 15. U heeft ook (denk ik) goed gezien dat de plaat aan de kopse kant niet origineel is. Wellicht is deze plaat voorop zelfs een reproductie en niet eens origineel van Singer. Ik ben het ook met u eens dat de ronde afdekplaat achterop origineel bij deze machine hoort. Ik zie overige een Singer boss-mount achterop, dus het is niet een super-vroege Singer 15. Vermoedelijk heeft de machine bovenop 2 schroefgaten voor een spoelopwinder. Dus wellicht dat u een een afgeleefde machine op de kop wilt tikken om de spoelopwinder van die machine te verwijderen. Blijven we met de vraag zitten: Waar komt deze Singer vandaan en wanneer is deze gebouwd. Om eerlijk te zijn: ik heb werkelijk geen idee. Het is een intressante casus en een curieus object ;-) Ik zou u voorstellen om lid te worden van een Vintage Singer FB-groep en daar de vraag te stellen. Mogelijk dat ik iets over het hoofd zie. Met vriendelijke groeten, Erik

  • @Quesjer1
    @Quesjer15 күн бұрын

    Ha, heb ik weer hoor....."interessant object" en curieus zelfs.... Wat is die boss-mount? En als dat betekent dat het een latere versie is.....dan klopt die datering niet in dit geval, want kun je 1873 als onmogelijk terzijde schuiven. Kan maar zo dat een of andere %&÷€@ vergeten is om de letters van zijn fabriek erbij te zetten😅...... Ik ga vragen of Vera toch nog binnen de familie meer info kan opduikelen. Wordt vervolgd. Heb je een voorstel voor een club-lidmaatschap? Ik ben helemaal nieuw in dit wereldje..... O ja....ik zit (bewust) niet op facebook......

    Hi. I'm sorry to hear your 328k has a problem. You probably already did this: Is the needle position set to center? Have you set the other lever to a position other that 0 (zero)? Do you have a pattern disc in top of the machine? If so, please oil the inside of the machine too. Perhaps the old sewing machine oil has become sticky. Oil it again with sewing machine oil and let it set for a day. Then try again. If it doesn't help: Do it again and wait for another day. I'm sure you will get it working again. Good luck!!!

  • @bciecko1
    @bciecko125 күн бұрын

    @@erikneek The wheel that spins at the back, right side of the machine, it has a center knob. This is turned, while the wheel is held in place. This disengages the needle mechanism from going up and down so you can wind the bobbin. However, for some reason or another, mine worked, well, started working. 🤷 The smaller center knob in the larger wheel was just spinning. It was tight but it was spinning. I decided to turn it forward, away from me that is, and it went a quarter turn and locked itself into place. So then I held the wheel again and turned toward me and it went a quarter turn or so and stopped. The needle mechanism was not moving and it was behaving properly. Not sure what happened or why but it's doing as it should now. Thanks for the reply though. I appreciate just the same.

    @@bciecko1 Hi Bradford. Thank you so much for your description of the issue you're facing. As a non-English speaker (and reader) I hope I understand your problem, but I could have misunderstood it!!! Could it be that the washer inside the knob was not placed correctly? If so, that's a very easy task. Unscrew the little screw in that knob (but do not remove that screw). Now you can remove that knob by turning it counterclockwise until it is completely loose. There is a washer between that knob and the main shaft. Turn it around (mirror image) and put the knob back on that main shaft again. And tighten the little screw back again. Now try to retighten the knob. Does it work like it should? If this doesnt help, try to capture it on video (with your phone) and post a question in a Singer 201-group on Facebook. Video DOES help people to understand the issue (including me ;-)). Good luck!!!

    Do the uncommon singers fail to do the modern stitches or is it better?

  • @erikneek
    @erikneekАй бұрын

    Hi. Well first I would say: What is your definition of an uncommon Singer? The 201 is an old machine, yet common, and has a great stitch. The 221 is very much sought after, less common (but 7 million made worldwide) and has a great stitch too. The 78-1 I have is rare and has a marvelous stitch. Frankly I haven't seen a Singer with a terrible stitch. But that is my opinion. Have a great weekend

    Hi. I really want to help you, but unfortunately I don't understand the issue and your question. Can you rephrase it? By the way: There is a Singer 401-group on FB. Maybe you want to join that group and post your question there (with photo a/o video). Good luck!

    I learnt to sew on this machine when i was just 10 yrs old (1964) ....i inherited the machine when my mother died..... I still have it but i need to know how to service it now. It still works well but needs a new belt. Just about anything can be sewn on it . Some of my attachments need thorough cleaning as they have a bit of rust ( suggestions for how to do this will be appreciated) . Thanks for a Great video! Please show more on this machine😊

    Hi, thank you so much for your message! Such a lovely story. Thank you for sharing! I have multiple videos about the Singer 319 including a video on servicing and maintaining a Singer 319. Here is a link: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ea6C0sGyXZSrnKw.htmlsi=U4kOGPV0_OT_YTyh A few months ago I received a Singer 20-10 Sewhandy with a lot of rust. I tried to remove the surface rust with aluminum foil, and later with sanding paper. Here is a link to that video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h6yok4-wcsTVg7A.htmlsi=cRfU-TXPyxQbjh1f When you use sanding paper use caution. Dont rub it too much, be gentle with your machine and attachments! You have the risk to damage the plating. Good luck!!!

    Good afternoon I have a singer, serial no AF 387-387. It and the case is in immaculate condition and has all of it parts and book. It says made in the USA. Could you please look up the value for me. I loved your video.

    @erikneekАй бұрын

    Hi Naomi. The AF serial numbers were built in the factory in Elisabethport New Jersey. Can you please check the serial number provided? There shouldn’t be a - in the serial number. The value is determined by many factors such as location, accessories and even how much an individual wants that specific machine. I can tell you what I would pay for it (if you have that serial number) but that what I would pay in The Netherlands. I don’t know it that would help you… Good luck

    @@erikneekAfternoon Erik. Thank you for responding to my previous message. I made a mistake by adding the - to the number. The serial number is AF 387387. All the assesories are there and the machine is in ammaculate condition. No paint chips or scratches. The only damage is the handle of the case has a bit of damage. Could you please tell me the value more or less and if it is a sought after machine for current buyers. Thank you very much. I love your videos. I was never interested in sewing machines but the more I watch your videos the more interested I am becomming.❤❤

    @@naomivantonder1161 Hi Naomi, so lovely to read your comment. Your machine could be a 1939 Singer model 221, also known a the Singer Featherweight. (Does it look like the machine in this video? kzread.info/dash/bejne/oqqLvJWQhMWahNY.htmlsi=nMUmXCN5P1KD-O-r) The Singer 221 Featherweight is a very popular machine and is very much sought after. However it is not a rare machine. Around 7 million 221's have been built since 1933/1934, in 3 factories (USA, Canada and Scotland). There is also a second Featherweight model: The Singer 222k Featherweight is slightly different and was produced only in Scotland and is worth more. I bought a 221k for over 110 euros which is a steal to be honest. In my area a good one goes for 300 up to 450 euros depending on the condition. In some territories they go for more. I'm planning to do a video on my 221 sewing machine, but that will take me months to complete. There area few groups @FB about the Singer Featherweight sewing machines. If you want to read more, I would suggest to visit the Singer Featherweight Shop for info and supplies. (There is also a book written about the Singer 221 Featherweight by the way.) I hope this info was sufficient. Take care and have a wonderful day.

    In case someone has the same issue as I did: I replaced the bulb but it still didn't turn ON, it turns out I just had to bend the 2 metal contacts outwards with a flat screwdriver so they touched the new bulb. Good as new

    I have a 15NL (Taiwan), early 80's model, and It doesnt sound clunky and noisy as yours. With good oiling works and sounds nicely.

    Thank you so much for your comment. I have oiled the machine but the quality is not near the quality of an older Singer class 15. Have a great weekend and again: thank you for your comment.
