I had the honor and pleasure of taking weekend courses in Austin Texas with Pat a decade ago. Entertaining and mind opening at the same time. It changed the trajectory of my writing. I recommend the his books Writing Better Lyrics and Songwriting Without Boundaries. Happy writing folks!
I bought your book. The object writing drills in sense bound writing have worked in ways of life I would have never imagined. Thank you
I LIKE HIM

Every song writer needs to hear this
I agree! I've been doing object writing almost every day since February and it's been really eye opening and helping along the journey of songwriting!

Many of us oldtimers already know this, (school of hard knocks and all), But I absolutely love the way you have demonstrated it in real life.
Pls someone explain me more detail what is the meaning of constant basis?
Steve you are a legend and I love you. Wish I had a mentor like you. Thank you for all that you do. God bless you 💯
This is such a powerful method for lyric writing. Been using it ever since I read Pat's book, "Writing Better Lyrics". Thanks, Pat!
Beautiful song!
This is a great story. Going to look for the full song!
“I don’t care how brilliant you start off. You can get boring in about 10 seconds if you do the same thing once too many times.” thank you
Hi.....Steve. I have been using prosody as a tool to engage lyric with my melody in my songs and it works very well. I have experienced that the emotion of my lyrics share ideas to music and they walk together to say ideas for audiences. Thanks for sharing your tips for prosody in song....
tut-tut, last part of the video is just black....who knows what pearls Steve was about to give?
great singer
It is mysterious to me: Why it is called destination writing? Is it because we are writing about a location, a place, and that place is the destination we are describing in terms of objects with object oriented writing? I really would appreciate a clarification of this.
I know your comment was 2 years ago, but from Andrea’s other instructional material, as well as the Berklee teachings which she learned from, the “destination” is your “Central Idea”. In the song example here, Andrea used imagery writing to focus on “small moments” of sensory information in the first lyrics, which ultimately led to the destination, the idea which is the meaning of the song.
"Destination writing is sense-bound free writing directed at a place, a person, or a time instead of an object. The key to both destination writing and object writing is involving the senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, sound, and also movement." - Andrea Stople
Love this..
Andrea StoLPe, not Stople.
Ah yes corrected that.
I never heard of Andrea Stolpe before but have watched a few of the vidoes online. Andrea is a great teacher and makes everything crystal clear. I guess there is much to be gained by learning from people like Andrea where you can simplify the whole process by breaking it down and not becoming overwhelmed. My problem arises because I listen to The Beatles and Beach Boys an awful lot and then try to get anything close to that level of beauty in a song such as 'Fool On The Hill', If I fell', 'Yesterday' ect or 'God Only knows' The Beach Boys...lol. This way of doing things appears to be not helping but rather I should be breaking the song down and listen to what they mean on an emotional level. There is this myth men cannot express or think on emotional levels but in only angry and forceful times in our lives. Men shouldn't be trying to get in touch with their feminine side either because we don't even have a feminine side...that comes from feminism which is an attack on men but that's a whole other story...but we should learn how to put what we think down on paper and extract from that the story in a song we want to turn into lyrical and melodic ideas. Another thing that bothers me is I don't like the sound of say Gmaj D maj mC maj or the similar, chord patterns that are used all the frikin' time...lol I prefer patterns that have a twist or are slightly unexpected which the Beatles did much of the time also they did progression that had never been done before like in 'If I fell'.
i would go to that school only for him and would be more than enought
Crap
This guy sucks ass. Riz.. dont listen

Lol! That was a cool lesson! You have just shown me that songs should reflect the emotion in which they are written, whether happy or sad...
Steve Seskin you are an amazingly talented being! Thanks for helping me and inspiring me musically.
