You have zero speed control, To best surf any wave you need to be able to go faster (pump).And to be able to go slower (stall) You should be pumping at the start to get to flat and then as it throws the lip stall into the barrel. Also that board is too big and flat for a steep wave like that. Get a short board or a gun with a big rocker on it.

Hey yeah it’s a 5’11 FireWire seaside. Found it great in progressive turns, easy to catch the waves and be able to do some turns. Definitely recommend getting a fish if going smaller

No unfortunately I don’t live close enough that I could make it worth while, that and I’ve also sprained my ankle so I’m out for a few more weeks :(

And yes it is a bit more gutless wave, the intermediate is similar size but has a lot more power to it. The progressive turns is supposed to just be a stepping stone between the small cruiser wave and the half decent intermediate wave

Hey it’s definitely a bit steeper but not a crazy step up. If you’ve been able to consistently get up on cruiser you should be fine. Just start a little further back and a little bit away from the wall and you should be fine. Good luck!!

I haven’t sighted one but have been called in by the life guards cause one was swimming around us. Got a shark deterrent on my board so hopefully I never will see one, up close at least

I live 5 minutes away, surf here every time its on (or the beaches further west) and I have never, ever seen a shark. Seen dolphins, seals and even whales though. You need to watch the rips, not the sharks. Unless you are a fit, experienced surfer I would be very careful surfing Gunnamatta.

Hey thanks for the kind words! I go roughly once every 3-4 weeks, generally when the surf is bad in vic. I surf anywhere as I’m an hour or two from any beach so I just go to quieter places that are working. What about yourself?
