    At least I know, I am here to say We fell in love in October That's why, I love fall Looking at the stars Admiring from afar (My girl, my girl, my girl) My girl, my girl, my girl You will be my girl My girl, my girl, my girl I absolutely love the lush expansively kinda' spacey' production values that make up 'The Girl in Red's, original version of 'We fell in love in October'...Throughout my life I've thrived on this sound, it's one of the reasons I think I like '80s music so much. Don't get me wrong, Grace has been doing incredible self-produced music that sounds like this for years now, and she's gotten really, really good at it and I like those the best of all. But these little snippets with just Grace and her guitar and that magic voice are what we're talking about here, and it really works! Also, Red's voice is arguably very nice and I like it too. But Grace's voice is just so much more emotionally connecting with the listener though. And the message of the lyrics of this song imply a great deal of intimacy, which seems to be lost in translation within the aforementioned lush production of Red's version...It's like Red's trying to be a singer for singing's sake, not singing intimately to her gal-pal. So yes, once more, I'll repeat myself; the overall intimacy is definitely lost in the luxurious expanse of the production values on Red's original version. Now the ultra intimate way that Grace sings her stripped down version of this song, and subsequently just OWNS it, sans any and all extraneous production distractions, or attractions, lol, is demonstrated to the 'nth degree here...Grace always seems to convey a much more deeply intimate and emphatic emotional connection with the listener...One last thing of note, right In middle of the video of this song, Grace has an ever so slightest sly little grin on her face...🌈 😉 🤭

    Grace's 'Autumn in Suburbia' is an absolute heartbreaker. She makes smoking out of a pipe that hasn't been cleaned for 2 years, having a friend whose Dad drinks too many beers, whose family lives in S u b u r b i a, like It's not a problem - because her friend is saved by the bell... And just how is he saved by the bell? Well first and foremost, he's hanging out with Grace Freaking Vanderwaal! Secondly, he at least has a car they can escape to where 'no one else knows'... But even if he didn't have a car, it's still no sweat, because Grace could just wrap them up in that little song blanket of her's, just like she/they do like in that song 'Hideaway'...And they'd be all whisked off to somewhere, a really nice somewhere 'that no one else knows'... The long and the short of it is that she turns the bad dream into such a very nice wonderfully ethereal dream, with a song... Escaping from what this kind of life actually is; a nasty bad dream...So she takes a truly nightmare dream of a bad/typically American lifestyle, and turns it into a beautiful 'Great Escape' dream/song for us once again, very lucky fans, with simply her unique mystical voice and a guitar.

    'Brutally' Guess it all goes somewhere unknown Turn around and leave it all behind Once again, I've drawn a line There must be a place where last love overflows ... ...Seems to me, it's over I'll get used to it eventually Over and over again, brutally It's just the way it's meant to be Now your love's no good for me...". The stripped down, cherry-picked lyrics Grace sings here, are carefully and very purposely plucked from a much longer original song lyrics, 'Brutally', by Suki Waterhouse, which suit Grace's needs quite adequately. And she picks these covers and specific lyrics for a reason, even if we might not know that reason...But I do so love a mystery though, don't you?. There's no extensive production work here either. It's just Grace...And that incredible mystical God-given voice of hers - and a guitar. Her voice alone, it's just so incredibly near Divinely potent. And her teasingly sly and clever ability to convey every last single subtle nuance of the precise moods of her emotions she's sharing with us? Wow! She's drawing one inexorably and expertly into her heart of hearts, with exactly what she's saying and feeling! It's absolutely intoxicatingly incomparable. And no amount of beeswax in one's ears, while being strapped to the mast will help you resist her songs either, once she has you right where she wants you to be...Well good luck trying to escape my friends, it aint gonna' happen. And once more, it's hard to believe how she's able to make every last single cover that she sings and makes it her own; totally eclipsing the original artist's version. One last thought here though about this particular line she sings, "There must be a place where last love overflows..."...Oh I'm pretty sure we've all been to that place; 'that place where last love overflows', haven't we, hmmm? 💔

    I've tried five times to post my comment, and failed. WTH? Well, I just got through listening to Mazzy singing this song...it was adequate...But our Grace? Ohhhh she just went and done did it again here folks; stealing yet one more song and making it completely her own... What to do? If you've got any common sense whatsoever, simply pray for more. I'm utterly convinced that Grace deliberately selects these cover songs and lyrics, to express herself in a way that's beyond just telling someone directly, just what she thinks of them. Aaaaamd, I'm also convinced that she's singing these little snippets of songs, that she literally just gives away for free to us, her 'hardcore-est' of hardcore fans...Of which, I'm proud to say, I am one of these hardcore-est of hardcore fans. There is a mystery I've yet to solve though...Just how in blue blazes...Just how does a FORMER hardcore 'Zep-fan' become utterly besotted with her completely unique clipped, clever use of silences and other subtle vocal sterilizations of this little Hollygolightly vixen? Circe and Die Lorelei of yore? Hah! They pale in comparison! Their so-called legendary luring sing-songy charms, are simply reduced to harsh porcine squealings...

    Okay okay okay okay... Here we got a young gal with superstar talents, singing a beautifully produced, lusciously layered, very, very catchy little tune... A tune that could steal anybody's heart, at anybody's age... And she's doing it all while she's curling her hair and dressed in mufti FFS! I mean just how many other superstars do you know that do this kind of thing? I don't know anybody who I've ever seen, sing along to herself, with practically no make-up on, and curling their hair, laughing in the middle of the production, and flat out just melting your heart! By God it just doesn't get much better than this does it? This is an absolutely beautiful song!

    Maybe the pink hair didn't go over too well with the more conservative looking girls we saw perform on the Interlochin concerts. Could it have been conceived as being too Popish for them. I think Grace could sit and have a good casual conversation in a room with Beth Torbert and Anthony Kiedis while the bass player snorts. Meanwhile the girls I saw on the Interlochin concert may fret and wonder how they ended up in that room. In the end the girls down the hallways complained whenever she went live because they all went to bed early.

    I think it is so cool that you can tell when Grace wrote and recorded a song just by the hair style. Then there's the surprise when she sings a song and you find out she actually wrote it back when she was 14 but you still know the time she originally sang it. You asked me why I cut my hair and changed myself completely.

    I think Grace has a number of songs like this that aren't really crowd pleasers for a small club but would raise a large enthusiastic cheer from 20k dedicated fans in an arena when she is huge at 25. Interesting that a club crowd would be made up of people who went just because it's her then the rest of the crowd never heard of her and some who at least are aware of who she is. The arena crowd is made up of people who know her songs and have their favorites which may not be the singles the Label released when she was a teen.

    @@Calers-gu1ib To be honest Calers, my own personal preference for Grace's music has, over time, evolved into absolutely loving these intimate, often times, mind-blowingly cool sonic wonders; these expertly technically self-produced IG and Tik-Tok performances, like this song here...Where she seems, at least in my mind, to be singing to just her hardcore fans. There are exceptions: 'TAT' on Jimmy Kimmel, Riptide' at the Honda stage, 'I Don't Like You' on James Corden, 'Highway' at Purgatory, that 'Stray' performance at her Soho 'tennis shoe' gig, lol. etc, etc. I think you get the idea here. In any case, I'm just along for the ride Calers; I have no idea whether she's going to be a superstar, or just play for small clubs, and I don't even really care...I mean, whatever she personally enjoys now or in the future, well, for me, that's simply up to her, it's her life, and her music, and I'll just be damn happy with anything she's got to offer. And good grief, she has what now, over 350 songs to her credit at only 20 y/o?!? WTF?!? Wow! And a lot, are these 'private sesh' songs, no matter how long or how short..As far as I'm concerned, I'm shittin' in tall clover here... And like I said before, I'm just along for the ride, with VERY few speculations OR expectations...Meh, I'll always be a fan, whether she's a big time or not..I've been listening to music, like you I expect, for a long, long time...And dealing with artists professionally for a long time also, and Grace is one of the purest of 'pure artists', playing by her own rules, that I've ever come across in more than just my lifetime; I mean even further back historically too...And she's also one who consistently delivers the near transcendent goods every last time! I've actually never seen or heard of anything or anyone like it. Oh dear God, I've went and done it again! I'm just rattling on and on here, lol. Aaanyawys, Cheers Mate, I've always enjoyed reading your comments. I'll see you around The Graceverse.

    @@haroldwilson950 Ta Mr Wilson. Have to agree with everything you wrote as I enjoy that too but I'm going by "the chances are." With that many songs written eventually she'll figure out her own formula which all the famous do and she'll have hit after hit. Unless she purposely skewers that to avoid being famous. Thank you for the honesty , in the past I wasn't sure if you were talking to me like I was your cat. Since I was a kid I was always told I over analyze things to death, not sure if that is a bad thing or not. Almost like being told to calm down my enthusiastically quick talking soapbox rants by a person who rarely talks and when they do it's tiresomely slow.

    @@Calers-gu1ib My Dear Calers, one thing for sure that's definitely not a speculation or my opinion, is that Grace Vanderwaal is a polymath genius of the liberal arts. I've literally never seen any other artist/entertainer with as many talents that she possesses. NOBODY! In addition, I've never seen any other artist/ entertainer that has such a near transcendent gift of a truly unique and inimitable Heaven sent voice and singing style(s)! If you've ever had to deal with anybody like this professionally, which I have, as an Art Consultant, you know that their minds are always racing a million miles an hour, and the inside of their cranium is like the Holodeck on that Star Trek spaceship...It's MUCH bigger on the inside, and let's also say, more, ahem, a whole lot more 'colorful' on the inside than it is on the outside, lol. I also agree with you too, that she's just 'taxi-ing the runway' so far; sampling this and sampling that, and will eventually have an established signature singing style...I think she even kind of has that right now; have you seen anybody who can imitate her successfully? She also simply owns every single cover she does too! Wow! And being that apples don't fall far from the tree, just take a look at her Dad, a Forbes rated Top 50 CEO! I sense that she also has this innate built-in DNA business sense; that she can smell bullshit like anybody's business. And I too, wonder if she even wants to be a superstar and put up with all of the happy horseshit ego crap wiht most others that goes along with it...Who really knows, I don't know Grace Vanderwaal personally. Does ANYBODY even reeeally know her? And maybe she doesn't even know herself yet, lol. Now, to address your issue of how I talk to you now and in the past...I kept digital silence for the first six years of her career. As you probably gathered, I'm totally an OCD writer; I have been since I've been 8 years old. I too was somewhat of a prodigy. So what I did during those 6 years of digital silence, is I actually, complied all of my research, got all my ducks in a row, and only THEN was I ready to rock. I also made a list of about 200 people who I saw commenting regularly on Grace's song sites and various social media platforms, like daX, Mr. the Bean Pot and J.man etc..I always thought you had this sassy brass that I found quite amusing, if at times a bit polemic. One of the other reasons that I never commented for the first 6 years, is that I tend to shy away from polemics, I just like to talk to people who I find have the same mood as I do. Over time now, our moods seem to be merging, and I like that, a lot my friend. I truly appreciate the way each and every person loves Grace, I just don't like being told HOW I should think and write about her; the wrong waaaaay....Fuck censorship! I've been a Libertine anarchist all my life. I actually think we're both a little bit alike. I grew up entitled, in an old money family, and was also a hyper little kid, who also was told that I over analyzed literally eeeeeevery last little thing, something that was def' NOT really appreciated, lol. One last reason I also wouldn't comment publicly for 6 years, was that I think that it actually totally sucks that you're supposed to write in only two or three lines of text, about someone that you could and SHOULD actually write an encyclopedia about, ie, Grace Vanderwaal!

  • @Calers-gu1ib
    @Calers-gu1ib9 күн бұрын

    @@haroldwilson950 Good one, polemic hits the nail on the head. I was a prodigy discovered early in school for art. While all the kids were making a mess on bird print outs I was coloring them properly. Never took it seriously though til my teens but by that time I had too many sports concussions and I think it screwed up my vision. Started LSD at a time when I should have been allowing my brain to heal. It took 10 yrs before I got clear and by that time Ihad to raise 3 kids by myself. I always thought your talent was writing and at times I debated that you were a comedy writer for some TV show. Have a good night.

    OMG! The beginning of that third song and the next little slices she was second guessing herself about, were max' delish! And when she finally kicks into her final songs, how about riding on the bus with fat people and cigarettes... I could actually picture myself there...I'd be the guy quickly throwing cheese-puffs at her. And then when she looks back to spot the guilty one, I'm all innocently looking out the window, lol. 🤭Then I'd all casual like, get up for my stop...And as I walked past Grace, I'd give her an un-opened bag of cheese-puffs and smilingly say to her, "Nice songs there kiddo, keep up the good work...". 😁

To write a song of such honesty, sharing her insecurities and vulnerability, shows maturity that a 17 year old just shouldn't posses.
