A very rare virtuoso musician! Virtuoso violinists are common, but virtuoso musicians are truly the gems we seek!

Jirkou S. 🎻🎻

3:30--listen to some interesting expressive intontation. Prihoda sharpens, bit by bit, the passage, until its end. This contributes to its brilliance. (If you listen carefully, the piano sounds "flat" in this section. This is because the violinist is imperceptibly ratcheting up the pitch.) Then, in the first note of the second variation he maintains the high pitch, but in the second note he goes down to the standard pitch of the piano, making it sound extraordinarily warm (appropriate to this passage). Brilliant.

Nobody plays this better than Josef Suk. A fellow Czech, he studied under Dvorak, whose daughter he married. A family bond which has brought out a perfect interpretation. I believe the orchestra in this performance was Czech too.

W underbar !!
