  Can you tell me when I take macros of flat objects, I have only a sharp portion in the center of the photos?

  It sounds like the curve of the glass on the lens you are using, say a wide angle vs a telephoto. Or the other possiblity is if it's a zoomable lens. If you use a flat lens, say a 24mm full frame only, then it may stay equally clear. If you use a 24-70mm lens it will not be as full framed and flat. Only guessing without know your equipment.

  I was so excited to get this lens only to discover it's nearly impossible to get anything hand held. Now the only thing hand held I do with it is snowflakes because I hold the ring flash in place and then rest my hand on the same surface as the flake and kinda rotate on my hand. Other than that, I only use this lens when I can shoot something indoors and do stacking. For a walk-around macro, I got the Laowa 85mm which does 2x and also goes to infinity so it's much more flexible. Even at 2x it's hard to hand hold but doable. I believe it's pronounced to rhyme with "ow ah" like if you hurt yourself. :)

  Maybe, but even with a tripod, toads will not hold still where the tripod sits. I'll probably have to switch back to the macro extension tubes instead of the new lens. This new lens is primarily for stills and not great for moving targets... LOL

  I forgot to add how incredibly beautiful the results of this project are. It's amazing the things "we" take for granted that photographers wish to celebrate and share. I love photographing the creation around me, both man made and natural., sure, we might be naïve pictorialists, but somebody needs to record evidence of our existence, and where we fit within it.
