Yes, he would have married marina, but he would have been trapped in a loveless marriage. Marina would have not been happy with him either. As much as everyone likes to say that he only liked her as a friend, if you go back and rewatch the other 2 seasons, he comes up to her most of the time. The what a barb scene, how do people look at that and think oh yeah he only sees her as a friend. I believe he didnt allow himself to view her like that and he misunderstood his feeling as those for a friend. I truly believe that if he had married marina, he would still have realized sooner or later that he loves pen. Shes the only one who sees him for who he is and loves him for it. He sees the world differently because of her he changed his whole personality because he felt like she didnt care anymore, and his family really never listened to him. Even when he was courting marina, he was staring at penelope in the first episode.

Aegon wasn’t retconned at all…they aren’t justifying who he’s become they’re explaining it. They really don’t want you to forget that he’s a rapist…it’s ugly and so is he but unlike last season we are actually following him so we’re getting his perspective in a way that we haven’t before

Ya'll don't like Otto because he is precisely everything a nobleman in Westeros should be and this creates a moral dissonance for the audience. We may not like his actions or beliefs, but he embodies exactly how the nobility in this world generally function and think. I find Otto more impressive than Tywin because he didn't have armies or massive wealth but rose to become one of the most powerful men in the realm. His advice to Aegon was brutal but a great move for public relations - if the game of thrones means you either win or die, then you have to be willing to make sacrifices. Otto understands this but Rhaenyra and Aegon don't. Otto served two Kings and maintained decades of peace, he's a good politician and administrator - Viserys literally says the realm owes Otto a great debt back in season 1. Unlike Tywin, who always resorts to coercion, intimidation and violence as a means to achieve his political ambitions. But both Tywin and Otto share a vital similarity: devotion to feudal duty at the expense of their families, leading to their downfall. Also Rhys Ifans is just incredible to watch so maybe im biased

Aegon =/= Joffrey. Joff thought he was god's gift to the world, the greatest thing since sliced bread. There's nothing Aegon hates more than himself because of the abusive neglect of his parents.

I love that the final scene with Alicent where she’s seeking comfort and absolution from her father but gets rejected is directly followed up by Alicent walking in on Aegon needing comfort and her being unable to give it to him. It’s the perfect depiction of generational trauma. And it makes sense that is comes out stronger when it’s do with Aegon, the child she had at 15 and the one that’s tied the most to her loss of agency and identity.

Aegon saying that Cole has proven himself of more worth than a hundred old men was a direct dig at Otto for saying Jahaerys’s death would be of more benefit to them in this war than a 100 knights in battle. Is there a worse thing to say to a father after their child has just been beheaded in his own crib? Otto’s lack of sensitivity is what made him lose control over Aegon. And yes, Tom Glynn Carney who plays Aegon is a fucking phenomenal actor, a total scene stealer this season!

I really like that Aegon is more sympathetic while still being awful. I mean Rhaenys murdered hundreds of innocent people last season but people still love her. Aegon is a uhhhh not-so-great guy to say the least, but what he experienced is still something you feel sympathy for. The point of the book series according to the author is "the human heart in conflict with itself" and it leads to these scenarios where characters you "should" hate have moments where you feel genuinely sorry for them. Aegon literally didn't ask for this, he specifically wanted nothing to do with the throne, but it was thrust upon him against his will and now his child has been brutally murdered. That's awful, despite Aegon's (egregious) wrongdoings.

The difference between Alicent and Rhaenyra is the former didn’t cheat on the king and was loyal to him until AFTER he died-then she started with Christen. Rhaenyra literally turned her husband into a cuckold and had three children out of wedlock-BIG DIFFERENCE. 🤦‍♂️

I would guess that Daemon didn't actually think they would succeed in doing anything but getting killed and it was more about making them feel unsafe. Because why would the area where the royal family lives be guard-less even in the middle of the night? I suspect Alicent or Cole dismissed all of them so they could bang in secret.

The Dance of the Dragons is a story of tragedy and almost every major player is terrible and gets worse as the story progresses. It’s a completely deconstruction of Targaryen exceptionalism and the futility of feudalism and absolute monarchy. There isn’t really anyone to root for because George doesn’t want you to root for a system as broken and damaged as this to be upheld. It’s still really fun to watch and read about though!

This show will be lacking in heroic protagonists. Everyone is an aristocratic monster and it's a tragedy about the fall of House Targaryen. (That would take another century and half but this civil war caused that slow death) Cregan Stark is the closest you'll get but no spoilers, he's gonna make some calls that are awful.

Every moment she doesn’t make a move the opposition does. And you get that if they lose they all die right? They aren’t pressuring her for no reason. All of their lives are on the line and she refuses to act or give power of regency temporarily. No matter how you spin it, our Rhaenyra constantly fumbles the ball. Since she was younger in season 1.

Louis was never a damsel, and never himself claimed or acted like a damsel. Kind of the opposite actually. Just like irl, people completely mistake his gentle human nature, for him being weak. And instead of understanding that they themselves have put that on him, they then try to claim that he "pretends" or "acts" that way, and he really doesn't. It's just for some reason people tend to build this picture about him, that doesn't actually match all we've seen up until this point... And then they see Louis being an actual Vampire, they see Louis being nasty with his words (which he's done before, on numerous occasions. He really knows how to wound, with his words) and suddenly it's all "Louis' the problem". Etc. It's funny watching reactions of people being gaslit by Armand as well. And having their own self-created scrubbed "clean" version of Louis essentially shattered... Louis also stopped being a "vegetarian" Vampire, back in ep 6 of S1. Essentially for Claudia, because it made her feel bad about herself, and like he was looking down on them. Also, as a way to compromise for his family. He's been eating humans ever since then. Still eats animals, but he also eats humans... They're all monsters, they're ALL serial killers. They're all horrible people. 128 people, after spending his first 50 or so years as a Vampire essentially starving himself with the Vampire version of an eating disorder. Is nothing. And now that he's actually eating people like any other Vampire, suddenly it's some horrible thing. Armand is over 500yrs old, he literally has dudes run, so he can feel like he's "hunting" them, for fun. You really think his body count isn't in the thousands (possibly millions) by this point. But Louis' coping mechanisms are the "problem"... This being the same Vampire who psychologically and physically tortured a man, before killing him, then gutted him and strung him up as a public spectacle. Same man who tore a dudes jaw off before feeding on him, just to look at it in his hand. I love Louis, he's my favorite character, but it always makes me laugh when somehow people forget all that, essentially forget he's a Vampire. Then they get to this episode, and suddenly it's like "he's horrible", "he's a monster", or worse people somehow convincing themselves he's "innocent" or whatever other nonsense. When he's just as much of a Vampire, as everyone else. I mean hell... in ep 1 of this season, we see Claudia and Louis massacre a group of men, and as they're walking off casually, Louis literally spits out a ring. The first thing we see of them, is Claudia ripping a dudes heart out of his chest, and Louis munching into it, like a hamburger... In S1, Claudia, who's not even 10yrs old (in Vampire years) yet, and she's torturing and mutilating people, men women, children. Entire families. She's keeping literal pieces of their bodies in her bedroom, and keeping a man that she's clearly been torturing and mutilating while still alive. In her closet and drinking from him like a juice-box, so that she can get drunk. But Louis' the horrible one, for finally just being a Vampire. It's just... it makes me laugh. I will say though, the "Louis the pimp" is something that will probably never not piss me off. He WAS a pimp, an obligatory pimp. Not is, that's not who he is, he WAS one. And he literally stopped being one, when Storyville burned down and Claudia joined the family. He hasn't been a pimp in ANY sense of the word, for over 30yrs by the time he even met Armand. It's over 50yrs by the time that he met Daniel. So why, do people keep falling back on that, like that's all Louis is. Like that's some defining part of his character. He is not a pimp, he is not "Louis the pimp", that's something he USED to be, a literal lifetime ago. People should really stop tagging him with that, any time he's "problematic" it comes uncomfortably close to racism. A altruistic businessman he is, but a "pimp" he's not... And the BDSM (as equated by the show runner and cast) part of Loumands relationship, has nothing to do with Louis previously being a pimp, that's not what it's about. Nor, is it about Armand being a sex-slave. Jacob himself talks about that, and explains it pretty nicely. But back to Armand, it's just endlessly funny watching people basically be absolutely goofed and clowned by Armand, fall for the utter deception. Be gaslit to hell and back, even as they're watching Louis be gaslit and manipulated, by this man. And still🤣🤣 Then watch them get to eps 6,7 & 8 and get ALL the reveals... So endlessly entertaining, watching people go on that adventure/ride 🙌🏽 -- The only reason I'm allowing myself to talk about essentially the finale here, is because I know they've already recorded the finale reaction, so it's not spoiling for anyone. But I just found their reaction channel, and it's so much fun so far, great reactions! Cannot wait to see, when they get to the finale.
