How does it fill now. By that I mean when you’re pumping gas does it shut off a lot? Also was wondering if when I do it would it be any better to install the skid plate cut the top where you could put the tank in from the top?

Looks like a solid Old Wagoneer. Should you choose to rebuild it get rid of the Buick 350 unless you find it to be salvageable. My Uncle had a 1971 Jeep J - 4000 pickup in the same green color which he bought new with the Buick 350 and he went thru 2 of these over the course of the trucks lifetime. A much better engine is the AMC 360 V8 which would bolt right in. Good luck with the project !

That's what happened to me. Not sure this is a good thing to do. The steering wheel play on my vehicle appears to be in the column somehwere running from the steering box to the steering wheel.

  • @junker1111111

@@pitbullforge The play in the steering appears to be in the intermediate steering shaft. That's the part that connects the steering column to the steering gear. I've had someone turn the steering wheel slightly and that movement does not reach the steering gear box. Somewhere in the intermediate shaft u-joints or the telescoping shaft the movement of the steering wheel is lost causing the steering wheel to move right and left without the wheels turning. I read where another replaced the inter. shaft and the play was gone. Tightening the steering gear screw puts a lot of pressure on the parts internally and mine failed within a few months of making this adjustement. Hope this info helps.

Should've kept the allen wrench on there. I work on hydraulic heavy machinery and the lock valves, flow control valves, etc.. are the same setup and you HAVE to keep the allen in there otherwise you'll mess up your adjustment and on that equipment, the slightest turn will throw everything out of adjustment I work on aircraft loaders and aircraft pushback tractors

Good video. But, as with just about every similar one I've seen (all USA ones), the lock-nut turns the same way as every nut i.e. anti-clockwise to loosen. Having trashed my steering box doing this, I found that on my XJ the lock-nut is the opposite way, i.e. clockwise to loosen! Maybe it's because it's a right-hand drive car, although I cant see how that makes any difference to a locknut, or because it's a European spec or something. No idea how to tell until you either do your adjustment or break something.!!

Also, if you thighten it too much. The steering wheel will have feedback of each bump you run over. I had to loosen mine a tad, to have slight play. Otherwise was a bit uncomfortable to drive when the steering wheen moves with each bump.
