i think Get Out was a very blumhouse feeling movie. I enjoyed it a lot. I don't think it's any sort of masterpiece, but I'm happy to have it on blu ray.

I figured out the setup 40min into the movie. Great filmmaking, but poor script. Honestly an episode of Dahmer tv series on Netflix is better than this.

This is an “elevated horror” that thinks it’s smarter than it is. It actually has less depth than a Friday the 13th movie. It devolves into “edgy” horror with “hail satan” but there’s nothing there beyond attempted shock value. Please watch Cure by Kurosawa. That one masterfully deals with the innate evil inside regular people. Its idea people are capable of doing heinous acts because deep down they want to is more scary than “the devil made me do it”

I admit I enjoyed it more than I thought. Opening scenes were the best. It was ok till final act when she suddenly went back home and seemed to get an injection of DISNEY GIRLBOSS serum with her mom. Then Glen Powell appeared out of thin air acting like a lovesick puppy and was fawning over her till the end which had everyone holed up in a cinema but main girl decided to get into someone else’s truck and drive into the storm. Everyone says “you’re ok?” “You’re brilliant” over and over again! 70% entertaining 30% cringe clusterf***.

There was 100% more intensity in the moments before Michael Shannon opened the door in “Take Shelter” than at any point during the original Twister. Another dumb Hollywood remake. Just what the world needed while so many excellent indie dramas are returning in COVID’s aftermath.

I liked it. And counter to your argument about the director, I like that there was a director this time that grew up in Tornado Alley. I think he picked up on things Jan de Bont couldn’t.

I have to whole heartedly disagree with this review. I actually couldn't stand the self centered characters in the original and the ridiculous love triangle that ensued. I dont think people go into this film for a romance theyre here for the action and destruction. So im glad Twisters kept it flirtatious while still nodding at the love triangle there, but not going for the guy gets the girl type of ending. I also just think characters are written better, dialog is a lot more natural and not as cringe inducing as the original, story beats more interesting, the science behind their motivations ellaborated more and makes more sense, impact on communities addressed actually this time, sound design is immensely elevated creating tense moments throughout that made me press back against my seat (at least seeing it Dolby). Both are flawed movies but every flaw you mentioned about Twisters is everything I would say about the original. The american gimmick the character plays is by design hes supposed to be this over the top youtube star, but as you watch the film and see him and daisy edgar jones interect you see a different side of him off the cameras. I dont understand how an American flag being plastered everywhere feels manufactured and overdone. What nostalgia? We dont have to go far, just look at Trumps photo that has been recently plastered everywhere. Pretty sure theres a flag waving in the background. Also they do give reasoning as to why she turned and headed in a different direction. As dumb as it may be they do say the wind gusts were traveling in the opposite direction. As far as Top gun maverick goes that movie relies on the original to drive its plot and brings characters back for some nostalgia ride. Twisters acts as its own film. Yeah its still about tornado chasing, but Helen Hunt doesn show up here and say "well I know how to figure it out because I was in the last film" with people pointing at the screen saying "oh hey look who it is!!". Thats generally how every sequel referencing an old IP does it nowadays, so thankfully its not that. Its clear you really like the original and the nostalgia is driving the review which is fine. Just feels odd hearing the complaints about depth when the original has some pretty dumb characters, a crummy romance, science thats not explained well and writing that is very weak. Cinematography, effects and sound are what I think hold that film up. This has all of that, still was shot on film and has more layered characters and destruction. This one maybe too long though. Both are dumb actions flicks, but Twisters would be my go to film out of the two. Also shots fired at Liberal Arts students 👀 😂

I absolutely loved the 3/4 of the movie, the setup, the amazing realism of the 80s style, the context and the tension of a moment impacted by a famous serial killer. Mia Goth is perfect, one more time. My only complaint is the cliched 3rd act.

I downloaded the pirate version to watch on yesterday. And this's what this film worths for only (not worth to spend $$$ in cinema for it). I didn't put any expectation to this film before I watched. The casts.. you know....so... the girl... not a warm type... cool one. Not suitable for the action film like this. So the failure of this film has been pre-sealed. That's why I didn't have any expectation on it.

I was actually never a big fan of the original Twister from 1996. I remember my dad got it on VHS. He used to buy movies in VHS from pawn shops when we lived in Colorado Springs from 1996-1999. I think I saw Twister in 1997. I didn’t see Independence Day in it’s original theatrical summer run either. I saw ID4 in one of those $1.50 theaters maybe in early 1997 when the movie was already at least 6 months old. I remember seeing Twister once at home and while I thought it was pretty good, I didn’t think much of it right after. I remember seeing the flying cow and Helen Hunt in a white tanktop a lot. I’ve read that the late Bill Paxton and her didn’t get along while shooting it. My favorite movie from 1996 is Kingpin. Twister was never one of my favorites from 1996 and I haven’t seen it in 27 years back in ‘97. Twister is similar to Deep Impact, Armageddon, and many other disaster movies that came out in the 90s: forgettable. The only disaster movie I like from that era was ID4 and it’s by no means perfect either. Welcome to Earth. Will Smith without a shred of surprise. I can’t stand Armageddon. Why do people like that movie? That Aerosmith song from it would play a hundred times on the radio similar to that Leann Rimes song in Con Air. I have zero fond nostalgia for those songs or for TLC’s “Waterfalls”. Seeing Twisters yesterday, I think it’s better and smarter than the 1996 original. But it’s not something I really want to watch again. Glenn Powell has charisma and he’s probably the next big A-list star. And Daisy Edgar-Jones who is actually British, is quite a babe like she was in Where the Crawdads Sing from 2 years ago. I just didn’t think much of the story. I’m not interested in tornado chasers. They’re just asking for trouble. Overall, I gave it 2.5 stars in my Letterboxd app. 2024 Movies/TV Favorite Rankings 1. Ted 2. Fly Me to the Moon 3. House of the Dragon Season 2 4. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga 5. The Boys Season 4 6. Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1 (of 3) 7. MaXXXine 8. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire 9. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes 10. Bad Boys: Ride or Die 11. Ghostbusters: The Frozen Empire 12. The Bikeriders 13. Civil War 14. Horizon: An American Saga 15. Longlegs 16. A Quiet Place: Day One 17. Twisters 18. The Acolyte I’ve never seen Dune 2 and don’t have any urge to. I know that’s what most people will put at No. 1. I found the first one way too bland. As Maggie from deepfocuslens said, she finds these Dune movies very sterile. Extremely slow and boring. The Acolyte might be dead last, but I do think it’s overHATED. Some of the undeserved hatred comes from not only review bombing but people who’ve never seen it. They just parrot what other people say about it and go along with them. Currently rewatching Fly Me to the Moon a second time in the theater. I’m not into rom-coms, but this one I first saw yesterday after watching Twisters, I thoroughly enjoyed. Love the vibe it brings and the 1969 look. The story is actually pretty good. Probably the most fun NASA/astronaut movie I’ve ever seen. Pacing is good. Music is good. ScarJo has charisma and charm like Julia Roberts and Meg Ryan in the 90s. Channing Tatum has grown on me. I’m very much into comedies because it offers the highest replay value for me. I don’t think Fly Me to the Moon is the best movie of the year. It just happens to be my favorite for being so charming and it never feels slow. It has a historic background story that I find interesting for a rom-com.

Completely agree, this movie is a total narrative mess. Shrouding your characters and story in so much mystery for the majority of the runtime only to have a giant, lazy exposition dump 3/4 of the way through so that we can understand the context of the stakes at hand for the climax…Just feels masturbatory and contrive.
