College Football Historian
A time once existed before KZread, DVDs and streaming. Back in those days when you wanted to see an old football game you had to get your hands on a video tape or film. A community arose whom traded tapes of old football games. It is now time for these classic game which have traded hands for decades to be uploaded for all too see.

I was listening to this game on Mpls/St. Paul WCCO radio as I was washing the floor in our family run grocery store in Butterfield, MN. During that last drive I said to my brother, "Oh come on, You're playing at Michigan with a chance to win; DON"T play for the tie!" When Ricky Fogge broke loose on that run, I was elated!

Another classic GSOT game. 😊
This was a fun one
Thanks for the game

I thought Grbac was going to help that offense go to the next level and the Ravens would repeat, man what a disappointment he was. I believe he retired after this game.
Grbac, when he was on, was a pretty damn good QB..but in my honest opinion he was very up and down.. never truly consistent his entire pro career...but in this contest, he was straight up f'ing dogshit..the entire offense was BEYOND laughable. It led to the demise of a very short lived Raven reign as Super Bowl champions
When you don't know the score, these games are fun to watch!

I was always thrilled to see Woody Hayes lose.
The game was stopped when Tim Brown caught his 1,000 catch in his career
thanks for posting this classic!

madden makes football better, need ai madden broadcaster to call all nfl games.
AI madden and Summerall would be the best. The funny thing is the best way for that to happen would be an AI scraping the audio of videos like this. I wonder whom would own the voice likeness.
That fsu war chat make u wanna put on some damn pads
It was such a blessing to be born the 80s , to witness and watch and hear Keith Jackson every Saturday…
2001 NFL season. You know it was a season like no other when NFL players in the 2001 playoffs thanked the military for their service.
These were the games i lived for. Physical, Hardnose, defensive games.
Block M this! M-I-Z!
The way it used to be.
I'm a Michigan fan, and I looked this up because one of my favorite movies of all time, back to the future 2, mentioned it near the end
I'll have to rewatch BTTF2 again to look for that reference.
@@collegefootballhistorian2078 do you want me to tell you the time stamp or something?
@@collegefootballhistorian2078 nice , want the Time stamp?
Those were some outright awful Gopher teams in the Early-Mid 90s. So many Gopher games weren't televised at all, imagine not having a game on television in today's world.
It probably didn't help much with recruiting either. The last time I watch Minnesota in person was vs Michigan in 2005. I recall late in the game after your QB got injured Michigan knew they were going to run and they still ripped off a Long TD run. I enjoyed the Mason Gophers.
@@collegefootballhistorian2078 And I think it hurts more than helps being a Power-Conference College in a Pro Sports City. Ann Arbor may be in the same media market as Detroit but 40 miles away. Ohio State benefits being in Columbus while the NFL teams are in Cleveland & Cincinnati. U of Wisconsin benefits being in Madison with Pro teams in Milwaukee (Green Bay for the Packers).

After this win for SC Tough couple years for Larry Smith But did well at Missouri
This was a tricky spot in the schedule for Tampa, coming off a Packers/Saints/Falcons gauntlet
Maybe we’ll see 2002 falcons lions soon?
yes

aaahhh, the days when a former president of the united states could just walk into the stands (with the secret service in tow) and to his seat and people near by..........acted like adults.

Dick Enberg’s first colts game he called with Peyton Manning. He was supposed to call the Broncos Colts game back on September 16 in the original week 2 however with the game being postponed after 9/11 and since both teams fell out of contention late in the year, they called the Jaguars Bears matchup since the bears were contenders that point.
Everyone saw this as a huge upset, but when you look at the 2 teams seasons, Arkansas should have been favored.
Big 10 doing night games in the 80s?
TBS had the rights to more than just the SEC for a few years in the '80s, including the Big Ten, and they showed a night game (usually either Big Ten or Pac-10) every week for a year or two. Ohio State's first home night game ever (1984 against Pitt) was a TBS game. Still no night games after Daylight Saving ended, though--that was a long-lasting Big Ten rule right up until the new FOX-CBS-NBC contract. About the only November night games you ever saw were in the Metrodome.
'The well-dressed' Amani Toomer as Chris Berman would later call him had quite a game despite the loss. It foreshadowed a very good NFL career.
I still remember crying over this one being 10 years old at the time 😂
Question are you able to put 2001 Chiefs Redskins on your archive page as well? The uncut version since KZread blocked the highlight clips for copyright reasons.
yes, I can.
@29:45 Minnesota defensive tackle #74 Karl Mecklenburg of NFL Denver Broncos fame with the sack!
We wanted the 1978 michigan vs michigan state game

This was the day I finally saw ohio state fans for who they really are (the general fanbase). Prior to this game, they were walking through Michigan tailgate parties singing their song, yelling 'Michigan sucks!', and bumping into random people saying things like 'You're NOTHIN'!' or 'Hey, you got some shit on your coat there.' and much worse things. They were beyond cocky. My dad had told me the story of the 1969 upset and he said that if we pulled this one off, it would be almost as big. It wasn't like OSU played a bad game, but they couldn't get the ball in the end zone enough. Cooper was outcoached (again). Eddie George had another good day statistically rushing for over 100 yards but TRIPLED Tshimanga Biakabutuka. Eddie deserved the Heisman it was his year, but it was Tim's day!
Go Blue
So ugly it’s beautiful
Touchdown Tim!
Who's number 10 at the end of the video? Looks very familiar 🤔
I though it might be Brady too as this was his red shirt yeah, but I think it's Todd Collins.
Its amazing how nbc made the afl feel like an nfl sunday from 02 and 03.
Knocking Ohio State out of the Rose bowl great 😃
Minnesota beat eventual 1981 Big 10 champion No.6 Iowa in Kinnick Stadium Gophers also beat Ohio State 1981 was a chaos year in Big 10 and nationally. Being ranked No. 1 was a curse this season.
Immortal
Well, Penn State DID win this game. However, that whole 'taking over the Big Ten' thing looks pretty funny in hindsight.
