Great radio. I live in the UK and have one. you can also add an SDRplay RSP1B and a T/R switch so you can have a full panadapter capability - in this video I set this up for the 718 and actually end up in a QSO to Australia!!!! kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2h2ksifqLTNeLw.htmlsi=7LooqDkAEvweAsN7

Lowering the RF gain and using headphones or an external speaker makes a huge difference in these and older vintage radios. You see tons of youtube videos with the RF Gain full open and I always wonder why the hell do that lol ... you're not going to miss any weak stations by lowering the RF gain to a correct a level and you reduce that background static hash noise. In many cases you never have to use the DSP unless you have strong local noise.

$859.00 in DX enginnering is overpriced in my opinion. Better deal is to get a 7300 for a little more with discount. Actually, ham radio new stuff is way overpriced these days.

Hi Brenton, ignore those negative people who all they can do is pick on those that are better than them. I own a DSE HF amplifier rated at 400 watts P.E.P. and have been using it for more than 15 years. I modified the amp for 11 meters use and get about 275 watts with 18 watts drive. It's a tank, the old timer who built it did a great job with it. I have not been able to find any information about the amp other than date stamps of 1972 on some of the transistors. It looks like these amps with different meter and a big band switch. Cheers. Glad Ur still with us.

I had a Ferris 5000 with an ANCS 200 Ch Digiscan - the same digiscan you had on the cobra 138 xlr A (16min 31 second mark). Best combo ever. I used to regularly speak to the US and NZ with my 3/4 wave station master. great power output range across the spectrum Built by an old Ham Operator named Bill from Lalor Park in NSW. He had it tuned to within an inch of it's life. 11 W on AM and 25 W SSB, lost a bit down the bottom of 26 mhz but not enough to worry about. Boy did he do a great job, none of that splatter on any channel common with so many backyard power increases.
