    Hey Cat, just going through Michelle Teheux's guest post and she's saying something similar. "Writing the book is easy. Selling it hard." Well, I'm here for the sales part :) Hope you'll join our surprise session on Monday with Ben, Robin and Walter. This time I have to go after 90 min ^^ Hope your rally was nice. Thanks so much for leaving a comment. Did you watch and listen to it or how do you "consume" my interviews? You know, I launched my pod and I try to make Substack the home but also amplify the reach with KZread (Spotify, Apple in the next weeks). Would love to learn more about how you consume the interviews. Thanks, Cat! Oh I also have a Podcast Launch Club for my podcast, maybe that's something where you wanna join

    Great to be connected now, JC. Looks as if Michael jumped off my call and then hopped on yours (as he's wearing the same black shirt and I can see the nose hairs he was talking about ^^). Anyways, subscribed to your channel as I think it's awesome to see you in my feed from now. 80% is mindset. I have two kids in the house and am building this writing business on the side, without embracing my messy, imperfect side and thinking: Better done than perfect! I wouldn't be where I'm now. Great to hear Michael is your editor. Are you writing a book?

We just bought it via our business account and I'll start reading it in 1-2 weeks and leaving a review since I know these are soooo important. I'm rooting for you, Michael. Read your story "Love is water". Brought tears to my eyes. I feel the deep love that connect you and your wife (hopefully also after all of those years of writing, not cleaning the kitchen, not listening 🙏🏻😁) I also think it was the first time of many wonderful chats. I Have to then Explain My "Arena" in the About Section & That isn't circulated in the Ethers...I Finally Landed on Philosophy & Literature...Seems Cryptic Enough to Cover My Interests.

    I already created a website on Showit, with integrated Blog function from Wordpress. But Im missing out on the social aspect, which for now Im using Instagram for. I created an email list function through Flodesk with a freebie I post on my IG profile. Im naturally more of a writer than a person to speak in front of a camera. Does it make sense to keep all the rest AND use Substack for new readers and list building? Is it legit to add my Substack subscribers into my personal email list, where I might be more direct about my online offerings? You say in the vid that we are the owners, but they subscribed to Substack and not to something else.

    Great interview🎉 i'm binge watching your videos and will be subscribing to your membership 🤗 I do have one question as I'm waiting to order the email address that goes with my domain name as I changed those . Website is mentioned here and I'm wondering how that works if someone does want to purchase a product or service down the road as I already have a new website and all the transactions and everything are paid for through that Are included in that platform and you can have your own store - is that some thing I would need to keep and just down the road once I'm established and people have interest or ask questions I can point them to that or is that also included in Substack? I'm thinking it is not especially with transactions and things like that but just thought I'd ask Thank you for the videos. They're very encouraging. I've already reached out to a number of people about your platform and what you have to offer and also about Substack 🙏🙏🙏

I host my community experience, which youi'll get access to as a paid sub, on another platform. I bet that in the near future Substack will offer MORE features though. They are constantly shipping new features. Hope this helps already. We can talk about this inside the Online Writing School. See you inside, Kristina

    The growth will be slow, but it’s still growth. The keys are: 1) Learn how to improve your prose. Crappy writing won’t interest people. Read classic literature or books written by the English. 2) Develop a free-content and paid-content list. I think three free posts for every paid post once a week is a good start. Work harder and offer more with the paid content. 3) You don’t have to be unique, just offer a fresh perspective on things. 4) Write about what you know best - cooking, sports, history, crafting, whatever. Try to become an expert in your area of expertise and don’t quit when you feel unmotivated. If you spend 365 days a year studying and analyzing your main interest, within 2-3 years you can become an expert (there are a lot of experts out there, but most people don’t have the time to become an expert in the area you are targeting. And when I say study daily, it can be 10 minutes to four hours. Each moment is a building block. 5) DO NOT STOP WRITING! Write on the notes app on your phone if you’re not home or behind a desk.

    If the definition of a "professional writer" is that you have to be traditionally published then I'm wondering what that makes indie authors who have written ten times the number of books Sarah has? Or ghostwriters who write for other authors or businesses? Or content writers who produce social media content? Or advertising copywriters? To me, there's an innate snobbery in that view. Probably I have misunderstood what she meant

  • @_KristinaGod
    @_KristinaGod24 күн бұрын

    Oh, I think Sarah is referring to her career as a professor, author and writer. Writing is her profession. You are right. It's a question of how you define "professional."

    I really enjoy Substack for its ability to connect new readers with writers and vice versa, but unimpressed with its lack of audience segmentation, lack of automation, and its layout/design limitations. But I DO appreciate its recommendation engine. With that said, have you ever heard of creatives using a platform like ConvertKit to serve as the email campaign platform for, say, their Substack posts? When Substack newsletters arrive, there's no real Substack benefit without clicking into the email to then be routed to the Substack website or app. I would think one could still post on Substack, schedule it without a send command via email, and maintain the benefits of its in-app discovery, its recommendation engine and maybe even the engagement. If the creator was delivering their content this way, they would lose the analytics, but gain the analytics in CovertKit, plus all their amazing features. You could even have a single newsletter but give the recipient ecosystem options (think hyperlinked graphics) to multiple platforms (like Substack, plus a SquareSpace website, plus Medium, and BeeHive all at once). Thoughts?

I have a decent following on social media (which I abandoned after the pandemic) and used Substack to build a mailing list for the first time. Now it looks my readers on social media are waking up and vising thee new website for the first time in 4 years. Today, I passed 200 subscribers for the first time after gaining 77 new readers in June. During the same time, 3 current subscribers (like OG readers) converted to paid subscribers. Site traffic is still booming from the newsletters I released last week. Thank you for your videos; you're a badass!
