Regarding the comparison to Gothic 3, i think the game only turned out the way it did, because of lack of time resource to finish and polish it, as the publisher did run out of money and forced an early release of a them mostly unfinished game. Some of the few things that i think were in a release ready state were: the world, the music, the general atmosphere and the graphics. Sadly the game mechanics, mobs, story, characters and so on suffered massively. The landscape and cities, i do like quite a lot and they give a glimpse on what the game could have been. I remember building a new PC just to play this game, but sadly in the end i was disappointed, i wish it would have been less ambitious is scale and resources.

The Y2K entry might have nothing to do with the computer issue, since Y2K may also refer to 2000s culture and aesthetics in general, so maybe the game took at least some inspiration from the cultural trends back in the day, like how the character names were weighted towards Spanish/Mexican ones (Diego, Gomez etc). The entry is still vague as I can't pinpoint what it refers to in particular, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had cultural implications rather than being related to computers alone

10:47 bruh I totally forgot how bloody terrifying Sleeper was. I'm gonna have nightmares from this shot. Sleeper was everything that the Undead Dragon wished he could have been. Such a pity you don't actually fight Sleeper himself on Irdorath...

Just FYI: The Y2K problem was NOT a scare or a superstition. It was a real problem and a lot of IT people worked VERY hard to ensure it did not cause massive problems. Sadly, there is no glory in prevention and those people's work today is widely forgotten and Y2K is seen as a baseless scare about nothing.

Sure, as I acknowledged in text form, some minor problems occured but the media attention it got, painting a picture of a world consuming event, was simply unjustified. Nevertheless, as you said, wise people once more saved us.

Very nice! And I am super excited about this last part ;) Aaand as usual, it's time for the final uncanny community curiosity. Some people have probably heard about it, others may not have believed it, but I'm telling you, Gothic is a Polish game. Wait, hear me out. We all love Gothic, but we also do realize that it is bugged, sometimes leaky and not very coherent product. Do you really believe the Germans, known for their accuracy, hard work and pursuit of perfection, would be able to create such a wooden game? Nope, it all looks more like the work of a few drunk Slavs. Also, the dubbing. German was nice, English was kinda meh, but Polish dubbing, Jesus Christ! Only a game created and directed by Poles could have such a wonderful and authentic Polish dubbing. Not enough for you yet? Atmosphere. The climate in the colony perfectly reflects the Polish reality at the turn of the century. Gray and a bit faded like Polish blokowisko - housing estate, autumnal and melancholic like life in Poland, orcs representing traumatic reliationships with russia throughout the history. There were also bandits, chaos, deals above the law, the law of the strongest, drinking, makeshift and laziness - these rules prevailed almost everywhere, from schools, through workplaces, to politics. We even have a legend about SLEEPING knights under Giewont in the Tatra Mountains! Even Sseth gets it immediately. What happened along the way and when exactly the brand fell into German hands - I have no idea, probably the original Polish creators gave up the rights to the brand for the equivalent of a pack of cigarettes or German washing powder. People sometimes confuse the history of Gothic with the history of another German pseudo-RPG game, der Hexer, which was based on a novel by a Polish fantasy author, hence the confusion. I'm glad for every person who is trying to convey to Gothic fans in the importance of the original Gothic vision (Phoenix Concept 1997-1999) Or at least willing to show certain things that cast doubt on the fact that Gothic 2 is the best sequel possible

I have 3 weeks of vacation. Im at the end of week 2. Its 6 am i have my 5th beer and watching gothic nostalgia videos. One could say some things never change. Just hearing you how you talk about the game realizing what the devs had in mind makes me know that you are a great person. People today don't appreciate things anymore on a level like this. Yet you ask anyone that truly loves the gothic series and of course he could tell you that, well not that comprehensive but you know what i mean. Man your summary sums it up perfectly. A QUEST MARKER ON MY MAP/SCREEN, A GOLDEN LINE SHOWING ME THE PATH!!?!?!?!? HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME LIKE THAT. As an 11 year old playing G1 had me legit thinking "what should i do" or "how should i do that". Running away from a shadowbeast had me legit scared for reallife. Those were the days. Honestly glad that i had this instead of whatever the f... today rpgs are. Thank you for this video!

I never played any Gothic game, so i'm looking forward to playing Gothic remake. The devs can take there time and fix and polish the game not spending another $89.99 CDN for a broken boring Starfield game.

I really like your point on the outcry for gameplay. Devtime was always an issue for gothic and espacially in todays time, when one unfinished game after another gets released, I'd like a complete, finished and polished gothic, no matter how much time it takes.

I really wouldn't mind political correctness influencing the game design a little bit, as long as it fits the setting. I don't think the developers should bend the knee to bigots who cry about "wokeness" and who can't grasp parts of speech. Also, I fully agree with the notion that Alkimia should get all the time they need. I still remember being very excited for the release of Gothic 3 and ending up very disappointed with its poor state, caused by PB being rushed by Jowood. I wish the fanbase was more supportive of Alkimia now, not trying to rush them into releasing gameplay footage.
