    Of all the 2023 Ragbrai videos I've watched I've enjoyed yours the most. Most of the other riders who posted videos insist on playing a music track sound over during the riding part. Hearing the natural sounds and rider banter is so much better! Well done! 👍

    im telling u bro i mastered this stuff i have went through so many ideas on this i discovered my best choice was and is always wafer head lath screws. it really doesnt matter as long as they are flat headed and distinct thread. with a ratchet strap liner it holds everything in place theres no chance screws come out and if they do its minimal. love your choice its just more costly. this was next to nothing. im starting to sell them i swear by them so much. also for front tire i made the mistake of putting screws down the center which is ok but it will feel more unstable. the thing with this is if i take a set of lock cutters or a grinder i can shorten up the center ones to almost flush so it balances better on the pavement. i had snowplows cheer me on last year riding through storms ahha so sick

    6:38 Is the child freewheeling or are they adding any energy into the bicycle's movement? To me, not knowing how it's geared, thinking child's legs need to be going faster.

    How often do you see wild life on/off the road? When you do see them should you get off your bike and wait for it to leave or just fly by it on your bike? From Hawaii and we don't have wild life to be afraid of so I thought i'd ask.

    I'm from Minnesota so i see quite a bit of wild life. Honestly, It depends on the animal and if its known for chasing its food. and if its an agressive animal

    Hey Dirk, cool idea. I bought some cheap CST Roly Poly tires I was hoping to spike, but the knobs aren't wide enough for the typical studs you find at, say, bikestuds.com. The set screws, without the wide base, seem like they could work. So I'm wondering, after having used the set screws, how they held up? Seems like there could be two issues. First, that the set screws, without a wide base, could actually push thru the carcass into the tube. And second, that they might rip out if you turned your wheel sharp on pavement. Thanks.

    Doing some research for the trail. I notice you are using road bikes, as we will be. What tires did you run? Did you go with a standard road tire or more of a cyclocross type tire?

  • @digbyodell2924
    @digbyodell29247 жыл бұрын

    Cyclocross tire is not needed. Road tire will work most of the time, as long as it's as wide as will fit (28mm?) and the trail doesn't get soft from rain or spring thaw. Tires that work the best are ones with smooth or dimpled center tread with some small to medium lugs on the edges that only engage if it gets soft. Avoid any tire with a relatively pointed center tread and no side lugs unless the trail is dry and firm.

  • @1975lap
    @1975lap7 жыл бұрын

    We ended up with some smooth center minimal side tread Kenda 38's. Could have gone narrower, but the 38's took out the vibration nicely and the ride was smooth.

    Hi Dirk, We're currently producing a new series for the Discovery Channel and are interested in potentially using an extract of this clip as part of a package about cycling on ice. Would this be OK? Thanks, Sam

  • @DirkDidIt
    @DirkDidIt10 жыл бұрын

    Of Course. I can make an updated one if you like, but without the ice. As stated, I am on the 4th generation model now. I used a old intertube as the liner to prevent the screw heads from coming through. That worked well. I am fortunate to live on a lake. My newest invention is fog free prescription lens for below zero. I used water heated swimming goggles...
