    In 1970, I traveled about the US doing an MGM movie ("The Wild Rovers") with Willam Holden. Bill brought his Mercedes 600 along with him. While the film company flew from location to location, Bill and I drove in his 600. The 1970 looked quite different, it is longer and had curtains in the back window. Back then, the 600 was the car of choice for dictators around the world. The car also came with a matching set of luggage. The car is now in a museum in Hollywood. Great car! Greater memories!

    There's a 2008 S-Class 600 with 34K miles for sale in Costa Mesa. The dealer is asking $35K, if I recall correctly. I almost purchased the car but decided against it because in my view the dealer is asking way too much.

  • @dalebotkin7501
    @dalebotkin75013 жыл бұрын

    I took mine out in snow and ice this winter. I put new Conti all season tires on it last summer, and it got around quite well. It's a very heavy car, and the stability and traction control systems work quite well. That said... it's also very powerful and you can get into trouble quickly if you let your exuberance overcome your good sense. :)

  • @CharlesMasonMcCoy
    @CharlesMasonMcCoy3 жыл бұрын

    It truly does sound better & meaner! There is a slight drone at slower highway speeds, to remedy that is drop a gear and it would go away. Originally I had cut-outs installed so I could go between straight-pipe or silent but the mechanism failed and I just made it straight-pipe. I sold mine in August to a friend and will probably buy it back when he gets tired of her. Lol

  • @CharlesMasonMcCoy
    @CharlesMasonMcCoy3 жыл бұрын

    The previous owner of mine (next door neighbor) replaced everything that broke on mine. I was lucky to have no deferred maintenance. Just make sure that the owner of the S600 you’re looking at has records. If it’s been maintained you shouldn’t have an issue. I didn’t have to put any money into the first 18 month of ownership, other than mods and oil changes. Also make sure all of the electronics and switches work because they use a fiber optic system instead of copper wires that is less reliable (in my opinion). Hope that helps.

    BMW, has tight areas as well. M5s are not the big Mercedes style, but zero problems with mine. Second owner and have had it for 3 years. 45k miles. It is more fun on turns as long as your not being an idiot and know how to drive. Nice vid bud. That v12 is ridiculous. It's like a driving a space shuttle on safe long roads though It's overkill and you can't drive legal at what that was designed for in the US. My cousin has one in Germany and it's absurd. The autobahn has 3 times the pavement thickness so you do it right the 1st time, less maintenance. This also means no road issues. That's only some areas. Don't let Germans try to pretend all the roads are that way bc they def are not!
