  Could not afford to ride the rails in Portugal this year with the Olympics inflating air fares from Australia to my favourite destinations in Southern Europe: The railway along the West Peloponnes' coastline was also a great ride but that line was closed during the Greek Financial Crisis: Kaifas Beach was a great location and onto Kyparissia as was the line to Killini with its ferry connections to the Islands

  Ora que fantático para turista ver... Não para os portugueses que necessitariam de comboios, nomeadamente os Algarvios... Já agora, a exemplo dos restantes comentários, também gostei do que vi (e continuo a gostar...), Exemplos do que todos vimos neste vídeo: 1- Comboios elétricos (rápidos e cómodos....) 2- Comboios silenciosos, nada barulhentos; 3- Linha dupla. 4- passagens de nível, todas, desniveladas... 5- Estações e apeadeiros cómodos, para pessoas humanas; 6- Paragens e desvios da linha necessários, porque há imensa gente para apanhar o comboio... Enfim um rosário de coisas muito boas neste vídeo. Daí os parabéns.... Ou será que não é assim???????

  Abgesehen von den typisch österreichischen Trapezen, die am Eingang der Bahnhöfe und teilweise sogar auf halber Strecke zwischen den Bahnhöfen angebracht sind, fallen mir keine leuchtenden automatischen Sperrsignale oder Achszählsperrsignale auf: Ich frage mich daher, wie der Lokführer das hinbekommt er kann fortfahren oder nicht. Einzelverwaltung über Funknachrichten (so etwas wie die RETB, die entlang bestimmter verkehrsarmer Strecken in Schottland installiert wurde)? Nochmals vielen Dank für Ihre Verfügbarkeit und Ihre Antwort

  Soweit ich das noch von der Aufnahme weiß, hat der Lokführer immer auf einen Knopf gedrückt im Führerstand. Anschließend wurde das mit zwei piep Signalen quittiert.

  Apart from those typically Austrian trapezoids used at the entrance to the stations and in some cases even halfway between one station and another, I don't notice any luminous automatic blocking or axle counting blocking signals: I therefore wonder how the train driver manages know whether he can proceed or not. Single management via radio messages (something like the RETB installed along certain low-traffic lines in Scotland)? Thanks again for your availability and for your response

  Yes, it's a GPS & radio based system. There was an article about it in the 5/2017 issue of "Signal & Draht" (unfortunately KZread doesn't allow links, but it should be easy to find). The additional trapezoid boards indicate additional stopping locations (basically the location of the 'virtual signals' of the control system, comparable to block indicator boards in LZB or ETCS). Quote: "For automatic protection of train routes, the Zillertalbahn uses a computer-based train control system (Zugleitsystem) from RDCS. The system controls all train routes (radio-based control) from the operations centre. The trains are located via balises and GPS. Orders and indications about the route are sent over a radio data network to the train and are displayed as a cab signals to train drivers. Voice radio is used only in emergency situations and as a backup. However, the system does not contain trackside light signals (except point-position signals), only the fixed mechanical boards. One of the potential train stopping points designated by trapeze board fixed mechanical signal (Trapeztafel) is a point on the entrance to station, which actually corresponds to the point of home signal in conventional interiocking systems." Being GPS based the system also seems to not allow concurrent movements within a station (as GPS doesn't provide enough resolution to distinguish between tracks). E.g. @18:50 where the train stops before the station until the opposite train has come to a stop. (Albeit, the reason could also be platform access over the tracks.) Another example is @33:44 where you can hear the system announce "Fahrweg-Ende" ('end of movement authority'), i.e. a "red" signal (which only manifests as a trapezoid board @34:20). The only physical light signals are locally controlled a) point position signals (two white lights indicating the direction), b) level crossing signals (yellow blinking light) and c) request-stop signals (red blinking light, activated from a button at the platform) - all of which are independent from the train control system.

  Ich denke das es zu tun hat mit der Geschichte dieser Bahn: bis for nur einzige Jahre war der Uetlibergbahn eine Gleichstrombahnstrecke mit seitlich angeordnete Oberleitung (so war es möglich der Strecke Zürich HB - Selnau gemeinsam mit der Sihltalbahn (Wechselstrom) zu benutzen). Der Stromabnehmer war auf ein kleiner seitlich angeordnete Tisch auf die Triebwagen angebracht). Der Uetlibergbahn konnte von Zürich HB bis Selnau (wo sich Uetlibergbahn und Sihltalbahn trennen) deshalb seit der Inbetriebnahme der Doppelspurstrecke im Tunnel nur das rechte Gleis, gesehen im Richtung Uetliberg, nutzen: das andere Gleis hat kein Gleichstrom Oberleitung.. Jetzt fahrt sie mit das Wechselstrom der Sihltalbahn und nutz auch deren mittig angeordnete Oberleitung; könnte deshalb heute auf beide Gleise im Tunnel fahren. Aber offenbar ist das nicht nötig und wird der Uetlibergbahn noch immer volständig als eingleisige Strecke betrieben.

  Vielen Dank für dieses Video! - Es gibt immer noch Bahnen, von denen ich bisher nichts wusste. Das dürfte gefühlt die Standseilbahn mit der kürzesten Strecke und Fahrzeit auf der Welt sein. Es ist einfach schön, dass so etwas trotz vermutlicher "Nutzlosigkeit" in der heutigen Zeit, weiterhin gepflegt und betrieben wird. Hoffentlich noch über lange Zeit.
