I have P0171 and found a rotten vacuum cap on the intake manifold. The code hasn’t gone away yet, which might mean the noisy fuel pump the shop installed last year is to blame. They refuse to do anything about it since it’s still pumping. They claim that cheap pumps are just noisy and they tried to save me money by installing a cheaper pump. I checked my itemized receipt and they charged me exactly what an OEM fuel pump costs for the pump alone without specifying whether it was OEM or not (clearly not). The OEM pump is 10x more expensive than the cheap ones so they clearly pocketed the difference. The noise is so loud I have to shut the engine off in drive thrus. Multiple people have said it sounds like the pedestrian warning sound made by low speed EVs and hybrids on electric power. Of course, the volume changes depending on temperature, remaining fuel, etc making it difficult to convey to them just how loud it gets.

some codes don't crear on their own, if you don't have a scanner, just take the ground cable off the battery for a few minutes, that should crear any codes, also if you have a bad gasket on your gas tank cap, can also trigger the same code,, weak gas pump will also do it, good luck,,.

@@bronco4lifeDone. :) FWIW, P0171 went away and I got P0452 instead (EVAP Pressure Low). Not sure if it’s related, but I started breaking down half way to work which I traced to a vacuum leak in the rear, passenger-side corner of the intake manifold. I have some tubing there which doesn’t seem to be on any diagram or even on the junkyard van I looked at. I disconnected it and capped it off. I can’t tell where it goes but it seems to disappear under the washer fluid reservoir, as if it’s on the way to the fuel tank vent solenoid… which might explain that P0452 EVAP Pressure Low code. I capped off the intake and the vacuum line and the code seems to have gone away for the moment.
