Marcelo • Prestige Watches

Hi, thanks so much for joining me on my little channel and watching my videos.

My passion is helping watch collectors and enthusiasts with their watch goals - whether buying or selling.
I love helping people make money with watches, and saving money if they are buying.

The world of buying and selling and delivering watches is riddled with pitfalls and perils and can be a risky business if you don’t know what you are doing. So I am here to help guide people through the different stages.

This channel is about sharing my watch journey, knowledge and experience as a professional in the industry and also as a collector and enthusiast and any interesting insights or information that I pick up, I will be happy to share.

Videos will be more about why I love watches, what draws me to buy certain watches and what they mean to me, as well as business related matters.

I hope my videos will help educate, inspire, provoke thought and even influence watch purchases.

Cheers. Marcelo 🥃

Very good tips. Like the idea of a decoy watch. Saw a story where a guy lost a Rolex out side the airport, guy came up on motorcycle and pointed gun at him. There petty sure some spotter saw him around the airport. So yeah wear a cheap watch when traveling.

Great video. Absolutely right...be vigilant and be smart. Dont wear very expensive watches on public transportation, use Uber and Lyft (get a regular driver). If having a night out go in a group and desinate a safety. I've got two ex military (Rangers/ Spec Ops) guys I've known since high school. I'm 6'4" but they're both 6'6" built like linebackers and both are happily married. So I call their wives and have them coordinate a night out. Great time with besties and zero hassles. Traveling if I take a luxury watch (I rarely do) I dont go out to mass public or night cl7bs with it.

What’s the point of talking a decoy watch? If you want to replace your Rolex while passing the dangerous area, it’s better to use anything cheap that does not remind the Rolex. Otherwise you could be attacked anyway. I’m not sure you will have enough time to explain to the robber that it’s just an Invicta. And even if you manage to explain this the upset robber might stab you anyway.

Why a Rolex Explorer (1) is such a great Rolex watch to own. Total class yet way under the radar! Most people have no idea it’s a Rolex. Wearing a Sub is a completely different vibe and you can feel the attention, while no one takes a second look at the Explorer. But YOU know it’s a Rolex and a damn nice one too !

A great comment and I agree the Explorer I is certainly an understated and less attention grabbing timepiece, yet stands shoulder to shoulder with its brethren’s when it comes to watchmaking prowess. 👍🏼

I wore my Rolex on the NYC Subway for 10 years back and forth to work five times/week. It's best not to look like a scared little girl when wearing it. These latter day soi boys are so soft they crumble if you give them a dirty look. It's pathetic that grown men are afraid to wear what they own.

The very fact that clips like this exist is the reason I seldom wear either of the two Rolex's I own (Sub and gold oyster perpetual). If you need to be in any way 'aware' regarding crime because of what you're wearing then let's face it, what's the point and why bother?

Although many people know names like Rolex, Omega and Patek Phillip- most people honestly don't know the brands well enough to spot them from close distances. I’ve never had any fear of someone targeting me to steal from me. I’m quite situationally aware as a matter of habit. Nothing of significant value is ever stored in my home as people are often robbed by people they know. Anything that is likely not to be worn each day is always locked in a bank vault. With that said-I’d never wear anything valuable in unfamiliar areas-nor would I travel by airplane with timepieces costing more than $1,000. There simply too much risk there. Speaking to your suggestion about taking the watch off to be placed in your wiife’s handbag: I wouldn't do that at all. Handbags are prime targets for theft. If you feel the need to take your watch off of your wrist-it’s far better to put it in something like a money belt inside your trousers to keep in on your person and out of areas where theives would be able to quickly check before fleeing the scene. There are also locking clasps that are made to fit Rolex timepieces to keep thrives from being able to remove the watch from your wrist without having to apply enough force to break the spring bars mounting the bracelet to the watch head.

Thank you for your wise advice. 30-years ago I was attacked in the foyer of my New York apartment building at approximately 1 AM ( I was in the restaurant management business and arriving home from a long day at the restaurant). The attacker immediately jumped my back and began a stranglehold on my neck with his left arm while stabbing me on my right arm and shoulder with a sharp knife. I was about to lose conscienceless as he said, “Give me your watch!” I owned a beautiful gold/steel Rolex Datejust that I purchased new in Texas in 1978 after graduating from college. I was afraid that he had an accomplice with him who either could have killed me or done serious bodily harm with a gun or knife (I was both tired and exhausted from not being able to breathe). I slowly took off the watch and tossed it away from me to see who my attacker was as he ran to retrieve my Rolex. He quickly left the building (there was no accomplice). I eventually went to the hospital and was treated for multiple wounds. My wife was 7-months pregnant and I was only able to tell her that I was “hurt, but OK”on my way home. I didn’t want to tell her my details of the attack in her expectant condition. I have since come to terms with the fact that if I were to go back and forth to work on the NYC subway that it would not be wise to own a valuable watch simply to fit in with the clientele that I saw every day and night. I still would desire a Rolex replacement, but I would find it not safe to wear, especially when crime is mostly unstoppable.

Good video. In no special order, a few more ideas. Carry a decoy wallet complete with only plastic hotel keys and a fat wad of paper monopoly money! If robbed, throw it in the opposite direction. Carry a small pistol., and become proficient. Avoid parking garages. Valet park. Avoid dimly lit, backstreets where no one else is around - stay in more crowded areas. Limit alcohol. If one is worried about a Rolex making them a target; then one’s expensive dress and manner, would serve to make one a target for robbery in general. And let’s face it, there are women and elderly people who simply cannot defend themselves. Women WILL dress flamboyantly with other jewelry, in addition to watches. It’s who they are. Typically, these people DO limit their exposure on the streets, to the point, that nothing will ever happen to them. And that might be the best strategy of all. Stay off the streets period. Uber or drive door to door. If you can afford a Rolex, expensive dinners, expensive theater seats; then why compromise on your transportation? Why risk the subway, ever? Not me. If you lie with dogs, eventually you will get fleas.

Best way to not get a rolex stolen is to not buy one in the first place. They are not worth the money, nor the risk. Plus if you like the design there are TONS of different brands which sell almost exact copies with decent movement. If you want to invest, buy gold and put in a safe. No need to wear your ''investment'' on your wrist.

Some good tips but also a lot of hysteria in the watch community about watch crime. I've lived in London all my life and never been robbed or felt unsafe, that said I’m confident and streetwise- it doesn’t make me invincible but it does lessen your target status. I see so many people wearing Rolex watches every single day and know dozens of friends who have expensive watches and the number of thefts is relatively low. There’s thousands of Rolexes worn every day and a very small number stolen. Most Rolexes are too flashy for me now, both for my personal taste and drawing too much attention. People do need to remember that the watches we wear all have a resale value and the resale has risen with the overall cost. Certain watches are highly desirable and have a quick easy and high resale value. Wearing a Daytona at Stratford station I’ve realised that I’m effectively holding £15k in my hand (in terms of what someone can get really for that watch). I would never do that with money and wouldn’t handle that much cash without being hyper vigilant but people wear watches and get drunk. I wear a nice watch now that has less resale value to a thief (a JLC) and other than a OP36, sub or Explorer wouldn’t want a Rolex.
