Do you have click and lock system? If you drill at the seam wouldn't they break the system? Or did tog drill near the seam?

THX simple process... safety first.. might want to add using a Voltage tester even after turning of the circuit... show a circuit board so novices know where to turn off the circuit you are working on.

Guess what. Your not grounding anything. Some electrical equipment won't work if no ground detected. Mainly medical.

Aaron: If the existing cable has a ground wire would you connect it to the green screw on the receptacle anyway? I ran into a situation today where I'm trying to daisy chain off of a receptacle to add a new one. Problem is, when I plug in the circuit tester it says there's an "open ground". So, I'm wondering if these Leviton 'preferred" receptacles will solve the problem?

Aaron, is the wiring different than connecting speaker wire? It normally would be white to white and black to black, but it almost looks like you went white to black and white to black. Did I see that correctly?

My ancient Chamberlain stopped responding to all remotes. I unplugged the unit, waited two seconds, then plugged it back in -- everything now back to normal. Try the easy things first...

@@aaronfixesstuff agreed. Just saying, try the easy things FIRST. 🙂 FWIW, I once rebuilt a VW bus engine that had begun stopping erratically, only to find the problem still there. Turned out the condenser I'd just replaced when tuning the ignition was bad. Replaced it with a Bosch one,... problem solved. Lesson learned (40+ years ago) - double check the last thing you touched!

I did two floor boards today and your system worked out great. Planks no longer give when they are stepped on. This fix was spot on and far less work than removing the planks.

Hi Aaron - Great tips on testing the sensors first - We just happened to have a non-direct lightning strike in our front yard which took out some electronics (i.e. the GFCI outlet for the door opener). Door now exhibiting bad sensor symptoms and codes - Both sensors have no lights - Will check replacements ahead of time and if not the problem (can return them) may be time for a control board - Anyway thanks for the tips !!

wow, the whole house was done in conduit? unless therye emergency circuits, even commercial buildings arent typically all done in conduit. But as an electrician myself, I never recommend using the conduit as a ground. While it is allowed for Code purposes, its only allowed if every single connection in that conduit run back to the panel is tight, and if you didnt do the run yourself, you have no basis to trust whoever ran the conduit did it right. and if the conduit run ever disconnects from a connector or coupling, you lose your ground. Youre better off pushing an individual ground wire through the conduit and grounding it in the ground bar in the panel. much more secure connection

On another property I did this fix on I watered it down a bit and it was definitely easier to squeeze in. Just keep in mind that the more you wet it, the longer the drying time. So don’t step on it before it’s totally dry.

It can be several things. Not aligned, blocked sensor, needs to be replaced, or something else.

Back in the 60s my brothers made weights of concrete and gallon size margarine cans. We’re from the Caribbean and free weights weren’t available except from the back advertisements of comic books that featured Weider bodybuilding products and Mr. Atlas. Our families could not afford to have things like that shipped from America so most of the boys made their own. Funny you should “discover” this decades later! 😀
