How the hell do you wind a z coil pickup? Functionally, they sound great. But it’s too busy looking for my liking. But that doesn’t matter, it’s always cool to see some innovation.

Most of the guitars Leo fender designed for Fender, MusicMan, and G&L are direct descendants of each other. The names of said companies should be understood as milestones in Leo Fenders carrier. G&L being the most refined and perfected. Although, each company has their respective strengths. All of Leo fenders designs should be celebrated!

I like the bass cut circuit enough to have built one for myself. I reversed the position of the Treble and Bass knobs though, as I'm using a push-pull pot in the Treble spot as my Expander switch. (Well sort of, it just brings in the neck pickup regardless of the 5-way setting so sometimes it has no effect.)

I bought this pedal cuz Tom did a sesh on his channel. Wish Robert would have asked Tom a few questions on the combinations Tom is using including why the Princeton...the earlier gain with the EQ.... thanks Tom again for sharing your insights... curious if you switch around position of the EQ pedal - looks like it's first in this scenario .

I LOVE the treble tone knob! It's way easier for me to balance pickups. I used to shy away from the bridge pickup. Now, I can set up a fat bridge tone, but cut through in any other position with a turn of the knob. Both tone controls are interactive. It's a great problem solving tool.

That controls drawing is a good idea, indeed. You can search for weeks, finding out how the switching circuits are different from standard. People write nonsense online, that is extra confusing. Example? Is pickup number 1 the bridge or the neck pickup? Why don't guitar players agree on that 5-positions-switch?! We can't even count one way. Yes, 3 is 3, but that was it. For beginners such things are fatal. Bye bye, they switch to a saxophone.

@RobertBakerGuitar I appreciate you breaking this stuff down. It is difficult, sometimes, to realize that it’s the simple stuff that sounds dull and dumb when slowed down that makes up what our guitar heroes have played and still play up to speed.

Damn. Tom just knows. Honestly, I’m still a novice. I am more of an expert of things mechanical. I can relate to you, Tom. I have never gotten to go that deep into what you are obviously a master at. I sure would like to learn more about that. Problem for me is that this has to be a hobby, playing and learning guitar and going deep into the aspects of sound like you have.

Reminds me when we were in the studio. We recorded rock stuff and the recording guy look quite critical at me when I pulled out my RG3550. He even laughed and asked what I want with a metal guitar. Then we started recording (bridge hummucker on full level) and I heard no word from him...so I guess it worked quite well, espeially when we did the first round with a LP style. Have you tested one of the AZ-Series Ibanez? Super versetail and comfy to play. In the meanwhile the AZ is my main Axe. Cheers

It seems everyone and their grandma has made a comment on the PTB circuit so here's my 2 cents. I wrote T(Treble) on the middle knob. Then I drew a (-) sign with a curved (->) going clockwise pointing to a (+). I pretty much always leave this one at 10. Anything less has too much treble for my setup and tastes in most cases. The 2nd tone knob I wrote B(Bass) along with the aforementioned symbols (-, ->, +) again. For me it's way too bass heavy with rhythm playing so I almost always leave that at 5 or less when playing a verse and chorus. However, when I go to solo I will crank it up a bit to around 8-10 in most cases. This is the best way I have found to use the system for me. The nomenclature may not be 100% correct, but I understand it which is all that matters. I love tinkering with it at home, but in most live settings I've encountered I just want something that is ready to go without a lot of Jeff Beck-esq tone fiddling and fuss. That goes for my entire rig as well. I don't have time to fiddle with equipment when I'm putting on a show as I'm usually pretty active when playing live.

I have an Ibanez for around 30 years. I love it, now I'm mainly in to metal/prog so Ibanez is quite accepted there ;-). It's a '96 RX made in Japan (seems to be a sort of test batch before they were made in Korea later). It's a really versatile guitar, 2 humbuckers with a single coil in the middle. 5 settings. About 10y ago I bought a second hand 7 string (RGD7320Z) which is great as well. I have some others (Jackson, Parker, Epiphone, Squier, PRS and even a Harley Benton) but my Parker P-42 and Ibanez RX are my go to guitars. If gun to my head, I would chose the Parker to be honest (so light and also quite versatile).

Honestly, the PTB wiring scheme is the best. Approach it with an open mind. So many more tonal opportunities, especially with distortion - all there directly on the guitar.
