I wonder how many horses were killed making the film..my respect for all concerned has dwindled. Cruelty to animals for profit is unforgivable.

What I know is that there are filmmaking tricks that involve using trained horses to make it look like they have actually fallen down, or by hooking the horse's legs with wire or something like that to knock it down. I don't know if that technique was used in this movie, but I think animal abuse in the movie was carefully considered.

True but the cinematography is pretty good and so I'd say the cinematography combined with the soundtrack elevate this movie to something better than it would otherwise be. The theme has this haunting vibe that sticks with you and makes the movie feel more effecting than it would have been without it.
