It's a shame she didn't get a golden ticket upon leaving Casablanca- A record company should have snatched her up and made long range plans with her career. She could've had a much more serious catalog by now. Imagine her recording not one, but two Broadway albums- 1st one could have been iconic songs from Black theatre and musicals. 2nd one could have been a very broad selection of songs covering decades of popular Broadway tunes. And of course, finish off the trio of albums with a real tribute to Josephine Baker, whose family she once met and who suggested she play Josephine in a movie. Oh well, guess we'll just keep dreaming of what could have been....

In the 90s, We were in Lake Tahoe, and the concert was going great. But there was a group of people who kept yelling, Sing Love to Love You Baby!! and she ignored them for a while, but it got to the point that she couldn't ignore them. So, she just said she doesn't sing that song anymore and declined to sing it. So, after that next number, they yell again, Sing Love to Love You Baby!! And she said, Alright! Alright! I said, What? I looked over at her husband who looked up with that "WHAT?" look on his face, I look over at her, and Donna sat on a stool, with the microphone in just the right place, the audience is dead silent, the band is frozen - they don't know what the hell she's going to do... She leans forward and brings her mouth up to the mic, she inhales deeply through her mouth so it makes a sensual inhaling sound, and feezes, doesn't exhale, and then she says, "And, that's enough". it was so damned sexy - all she had to do was take a breath, one inhale, and it was so sexy - everyone cheered and went wild over that, and she sang the next song and the next and that group had been satisfied with one inhale. Her hasband, after the show came over to me and said, What did you do when she said Okay, she would sing Love to Love You, and I said, I looked over at YOU to see your reaction. And, I told him that one inhale was so sexy that it satisfied that group. And, we laughed about it. But, she knew she could be sexy. She knew what she was capable of. I was very surprised that she put Love to Love You Baby into the show after all those years, but I think it may have been inspired by Cher doing her old songs, Half Breed and Gypsies Tramps and Thieves... I don't know, I never asked her. lol. In Los Angeles where she performed, Brooklyn was there in the audiance and I kept wondering how she felt bout doing the song with her daughter there, but she did the song more playfully than sensual, and she would say, Oh! and then kind of giggle and then take a sip from her water on stage. lol. I did tell her once that my parents didn't let me play Love to Love You Baby in their house when I was in High School, and she spun around and said, Good! They shouldn't. I wouldn't let you play it in my house either! And, then we both laughed. She was hilarious and a lot of fun to be around, even when working, she was funny and fun. Her sister Mary is like that too. I miss her. I love this video because I didn't get a copy of the LA show or any other... so this was really nice, thank you.

Loved hearing her singing this song in concert. There are even better renditions once she got the words down right. Unfortunately they are no longer on KZread. Hey Bruce, here's one to add to the future Live album. If it ever comes to fruition that is. ❤❤

David Geffen made a HUGE MISTAKE shelving Donna's album "I'm A Rainbow" circa 1981. The album had eclectic styles of music. A blend of R&B, Rock, New Wave and Ballads. That album would at least gone Gold in the U.S. back then. I'm glad it was finally released in 1996. I am happy and fortunate I have my copy. Great album showing off again more of Donna Summer's vocal versatility.
