What is a “20 Minute Gamer”? I don’t think it’s a phrase I coined, but it’s one I really lean on. It’s that gamer who’s looking for solid content and value in a small window.
I want to create a place where I can showcase an assortment of games to help you decide what’s worth your time.
I don’t know where it’s going or what’s next. But, I do know, I’ve bought and figuratively thrown out multiple games that just weren’t worth my time. Like many of you, I play games to disconnect. One of the worst feelings in the world is having sat down for a game, only to come away wondering if your time could have been better spent.
Some of these games will become a series. I enjoy the longevity of them and I hope to prove that they can fill this role of a 20 minute game.
So with that being said, lets kick this thing off. See you out there Gamers.

Hate this mission...
Brother.... ....it's the absolute WORST. Recon sucks. Tecker sucks. You have to play offensive, but when you do, it's just a shit show.
@@20MG correct. Everything you learn before, don't work there.
I feel that the dual stacking command point generation for sergeants was rated to low and I never rolled Battle-Drone when I realized it made the drone a target by aliens. In my mind if i'm relying on a Drones smg to pass engagements, I did something wrong. I also preferred it when aliens ignored it. Made Scouting alien infested area 100% safe. Now the M56 ACT for Smart Gun. I Play a very Mobile squad even on nightmare. Keeping the gun in my marines hands makes it a Walking Sentry turret 100% of the time. Five Sentries is more then enough added fire power for onslaughts along with 'Good Use' of abilities. Where I'm coming from is that I dislike 'Babysitting' abilities. I NEED too be able to move on the fly and will utilize the drone for Emergency Scouting and distraction on Hunt down-times. ...I confess that I have ptsd from watching *Christopherodd's* Playthrough of the game.... it was basically a sentry placing Simulator. It was horrid thing to witness. fyw: I found that when using the Recon that I would 'TAB' to Recon for a sentry placement then Cancel when he's in position. This allow me To John Wick whole areas. I confess it takes getting used to but when you master the technique It feels good erasing whole rooms in silence. But I do agree with your change to Recon! A much more steamline use of the Recon would be welcomed. For Me Ranking goes like this 1- Sergeant / 2- Recon / 3- Gunner / 4- Tekker / 5- Medic / I roll Sergeant, Recon, Gunner & Tekker at the start. Then add a 2nd Sergeant when I get APC. Command points is King in this game and EVERTHING the Sergeant does STACKS!! Bravery Command points & *Command* *point* *Generation!*
I finished the game 4 times, including hardest difficulty, new game+ on easiest but with +5 damage for xenos, so listen carefully: MINES ARE USELESS I don't know why people keep recommending them, they are simply a waste of command points, which means a waste of time you have to wait while they regenerate. And for what? To kill a drone somewhere on the map? In few seconds another drone will popup to replace it. You gain nothing. Snipe drones that notice you or avoid them. When spotted, try to leave the place asap, but don't get cornered and keep an eye on the aggression meter to be prepared for the waves. Before resting, spend remaining points on scanners in the same room, later you can activate them to create a distraction, but don't setup a mine there, its useless. Try always using same people to level up faster, take perks that remove fatigue and heal traumas. When all objectives are done, remember that each wave and 2nd tier xenos also add experience points, so set up a defence near the APC and go for some shooting until the last wave or while you have ammo. Don't take all the ammo, especially easily accessible, save some on case you'll have to do another run on this location.
I think every weapon has its place. If I'm honest. I did not get the massive hard on that. Everyone else seemed to when it came to the mines, but I can say that I can appreciate certainly where mines would be useful I think mines were wonderful for defensive sections of the campaign. Being able to basically set up an Alamo, and take out a couple of xenos. I also used mines a lot when fighting the queen because I let her come to me. But I didn't spend that much time putting mines on Hive entrances.
It seems to me that a "Labor vs. Capital" game would be extremely asymmetrical, which is probably the most difficult type of game to pull off. I think this is going to be worth watching.
It reminds me of the old Swat games. You had a less funded Criminal (Labor) pool and then the State funded (Capital) Swat pool. The swat had much better weapons and the Criminals had to scavenge what they could. This is approached a similar way. The Capital definitely had better weapons than my team did, which is why I was so excited to grab their gear lol.
You didn't eat the item. You dropped it on the ground like other items. You need to pay attention to your inventory management.
You're not wrong there. I think the end of my second play I realized how tight inventory management can be. I do have more than I did starting out, however, there is an air of "Resident Evil" about it, as far as inventory goes. You really need to open/use slots with a purpose. You can't necessarily horde.
The "fuck everything in that general direction" has been a valid tactic for most of modern warfare
Truer words have never been spoken LOL With the larger bases that are coming in this next update, the 380 is really going to shine along with its 120 cousin
You so bad at it 🤣You should rather spread out and keep overwatch, instead of gathering in on spot where you easy to be flanked.
Yeah, I think the only problem with spreading out is that I would then be pitting a weak weapon against a more powerful weapon. I played around with spreading out the first time and I just got picked off one by one. The submachine guns that my four people have were no match at a distance for the rifles that the enemy had. So on this particular recording I tried to lump everyone up into a protective squad where I could support them using OverWatch. And then while OverWatch was set, the teams could then bound and engage. There's definitely going to be a learning curve to this game. Because of its realness, it is not like XCOM. This game is a lot less forgiving. But LOL it's all a learning experience LOL
@@20MG I see. I will try to not die myself tomorrow while trying it out. Thanks for reminding me about this game and the clues. I was very intrigued by the trailer few weeks ago. Game looks pretty good, and I like the retro style.
@@20MG Oh, no demo available :( I thought the demo is on steam
For real though LOL. I was pretty bad at it. It doesn't play like your traditional turn-based tactical games. The labor don't have as many resources as capital. So you are taking people who are scraping by against people who have ultimately any resource available. I've had a lot on my plate but I need to jump in and play one of the capital missions as well.
That's sad.... ....I guess they pulled it? Just checked myself and I was prompted with the, " you no longer have access to this game" off the 'play' button I guess it must have just been available for the 2 weeks that steam was running the tacticon That's disappointing. :-(
I think I found a new game to make a video on. I am downloading it now, going to give it a play, and see how I like it! It looks really cool!
Dude, it's an absolute blast! Check it out
"Where are these games?" Nebula fleet command?
I do mention that game in this video. I'd love more like it.
Hmm Thx for the video! This looks like a literal implementation of "table top" part of the Wh40K table top franchise. Hm, Yes 4:51 It looks more like Bad North. But... Better?
It does feel that way. More real time than turn based. I wish there was a way to select every unit at once for a movement. But, overall, it feels really good.
The moment you realize you ate the quest item. Lmfao
Ha!! Yeah I was.... bewildered. Since the cook told me they'd feed me. SURELY this is MY burger. Lol.
This is really compelling. I have to wonder, though, if you can really run like that in 1/3 gravity. You'd think you'd sail into the sky. Which makes me think there would be two different movement modes, one where you book but you're easy to pick off, and one where you sort of creep along and get full benefit of the ground.
it would be interesting to add a sort of, gravity element. Be able to jump high, break gravity and then land to flank enemies. I'm working on other missions for this demo. So far though, it's a tough game.
@@20MG Gravity in Kerbal Space Program works; walking on Kerbin is entirely different from walking on the Mun. They really put a lot of effort into that.
I guess their into-da-future gear is heavy while the overall game theme is light🤣
I played an earlier version of this demo, which you play as BC-42 instead of one of the escorts, but at the end of the demo, you get bumped down to an escort, which kinda didn't make sense to me. I will say that playing as BC-42 had much more stuff going on, as you had PD batteries, main guns, and missiles to manage. I am also excited for this game and hope it comes out soon. This type of game isn't made much anymore, but it's one of my fav genres.
I'd love to have played that earlier copy. Truthfully, this little frigate was fun to use. I'm interested to see how indepth command gets with the bigger ships. Lots more to juggle.
@@20MG I found it much more fun than the frigate game play, but it's good to have a progression. I hope as the game progresses, having different tactics for a frigate vs battlecruiser emerge.
game looks cool :)
It's a good time, definitely. I like that, you basically control how tough your base is, with how it's built. I love the art style. It's minimal but colorful, in a dark world. I like the way it's structured.
That ship design is lifted from another game, Between the stars, also on steam.
I'm familiar with Between the Stars. I can see the similarities. The ship you fly really reminds me of the Hammerhead from Rebel Galaxy.
Looks fun. Brah you got the situational awareness of a turnip lol. Im sure you will get the hang of it. At the end, you were supposed to have jumped out. Enjoyed the video!
Lol. I was just having fun with it. I think the game has a lot of promise though. I look forward to seeing the types of ships that you get. I think it captures a genre that isn't really supported by any game currently. And I think it's going to be popular for that reason alone.
Still didn't let me play new game plus. Tutorial glitch after first mission return. New game plus unplayable 😢
That's unfortunate. There are still some buried glitches for a few users out there. A great game, lost to some game breaking bugs. What I've never understood on games is how, two identical systems, running the same game, can have different problems.
@@20MG Always wondered about that myself. I guess pure random chance is a factor.
The same sensation when I play the X-Com games, my squad gets wrecked in later missions and I'm like "¡¡¡GET THE F#$K OUT OF THERE, GET OUUTTT OF THERE!!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this title. Had a blast with it. But I'll be honest. It wasn't until I was 1/3 of the way through the game I realized "shit...this is metal gear solid with guns....". There is NO such thing called "taking the fight to the Xeno's" in Aliens Dark Descent lmao.
@@20MG I'll be damned, so Aliens Dark Decent is a brutal game.
This game needs a sequel so bad. There is so much done well, gameplay-wise. All i need is more customization for my Marines and their personalities.
We didn't hear a lot about the title while it was in development. I choose to hope and believe that they're hard at work on another title. Even if it goes down as unsuccessful financially, this was a great proof of concept for a limited forces style game.
Amd here i am trying to keep my guys in top condition. Clearly i am coddling them 😂 (I didnt even know this is a feature lol)
I've heard of some users replacing both arms and legs lol. Straight up cyborgs at that point lol.
This looks extremely compelling. It looks to have Newtonian physics, but it puts you in the position of the commander instead of the master, as in Kerbal Space Program, where you set up burns to change your course. In KSP you need to work out the direction and magnitude of a burn, while here you just say "rendezvous with X."
You can also, manually adjust if you want. You can hard burn, flip and then hard burn to stop within meters of the intended target. I like the "automatic" fashion of it, currently. I'm going to follow this closely because it feels a lot like Battlestar Galactica. I love this game premise.
Get helldivers. No alien game will compare ever
I love Helldivers. I still love Aliens though. This game scratches an itch that Helldivers doesn't. Squad tactics. I mean, both GREAT games, in my opinion.
I’ve heard of this guy. 😂 Nels has helped me grow, and he has become a great friend! Love ya bro! Keep up the good work Nels
He is a FANTASTIC dude. I have done my best to stay in contact with him. He's one content creator I can't wait to grow alongside of.
@@20MG just remember If you ain’t first you’re last! 😂
Aww thanks bro I appreciate it alot.....Shake..... and...... Bake whoop whoop, much love bro :)
@@20MG Thank you bro it means a lot to me, I appreciate it alot, much love. Teamwork makes the dream work whoop whoop :)
@@Sarcastic_Mage omg lol bro your too funny, love it :)
One bit that always struck me is how troops in the field will say "drone" to refer to an Alien caste, and "drone" to mean their remotely operated vehicle. I don't believe they'd tolerate that ambiguity for a minute.
Not to say they wouldn't be that ambiguous, but I imagine they'd just say "Xeno" to identify. It's tricky because you would want to be specific, but the time it would take to properly identify could be critically wasted time.
@@20MG In my opinion, more games need to address the problem of detecting and identifying potential targets, and more to the point, setting things up to go horribly wrong with a misidentification. Imagine if the player had to click on a target before your squad opens fire, and the "Xeno" turns into "seven-year old girl."
Looks interesting, if it develops some more tactical depth. Stuff like cover or aiming in attacks can make the game feel like less of a slugfest.
I simply love that there are companies out there that see what a great game Battletech is/was, and they seem interested in picking up that mantle.
wtf is this? Where is this?
the Knight was part of the Super Citizen edition that was released.
Hit that "tactical analyst"!! 😂hahahaha
Lol. TAis so good when you need it.
Basically what you have expect a real combat/war against these critters gonna go Expectation: Vs Reality Btw thou sire, have earn yerself new subber felloweth USCM marineth!
I'm ECSTATIC to have you! I think a real world military would handle this situation a lot more different LOL
Huh? Why the demo? The prologue just out couple of days ago right?
You would be correct. I had this video for the demo. Played about a week and a half ago. And this is just where it fell in my staging. There is a prologue that's out, free to play right now. I will be jumping into that here soon
This game looks promising already! The pixelated yet fluid graphics are quite nice to see, and the design of the mechs although similar to other mecha games (pheraps it has taken some inspiration from other titles) is detailed right where it matters. The way they move and attack showcases how much weight and power they pack! Also there seems to be quite a lot of tactical depth as well!
There's something very comfortably nostalgic about the art style and I love it There is a prologue available as well that I'm going to post. But it looks really good
"first look" - me having played the open beta last year. Not so much a first look or even the first time people where allowed to play this.
I'm aware of that. It is my first look at the game. I am not alluding to, nor anywhere in the video, did I address that I was given preferential treatment above anybody else in the viewing of this. Even though it's just the demo and not any kind of a beta test, pre-beta games don't really allow for content creation due to the volatile nature of the playable state of the game. I understand that your comment is semantics, but I would say that I'm not the only content creator that labels a "first look" video in this way. Plenty of other channels release "first look" videos long after beta testers have had their go at the title.
Nevertheless, I refuse to be lumped into some sort of bullshit, clickbait, category. So based on your feedback and comment, I did go ahead and adjust the title to more clearly reflect that it is my channel's first look, and not an overall first look provided to me by the company. I will always aim to be better than the competition, and based on the passion behind your comment, I felt it was best to clear up the title directly.
I mean ok. Chill no offence intended
No no. I don't take it any sort of way, but your comment isn't off base. I don't want to give off the wrong impression with any of my videos.
YAY! More mecha games!
I thought you'd be excited lol
@@20MG :)
Gonna be a smartass, but it helps to read. It says you make a straight line on the HUD to make a line of fire
No, you're good. It does say that. All I can say in my defense is that, I get so excited jumping into a title, sometimes I find myself NOT reading the fine print.
.....WHAT!?...
It's a game changer
you can glitch on the weapon racks and fly away, i have like 30 hours in this demo
That's a LOT of time, and a great tip too. Who doesn't like to pretend their Superman on occasion.
@@20MG also, if you want to know when the next guy is coming, take a body part of the last enemy you killed with you, when it disappears it means the body has despawned and was replaced by a new enemy
You suck
Yeah, thanks for the feedback. These physics based games always give me trouble. Just not my niche. Even Exanima, I just grapple with the mouse/keyboard movements.
YOU HAVE TO USE THE POO
Gotcha lol. Using the Poo.
@@20MG cheers mate
The latest test build (seperate from the demo you just played) has improved controls, physics, and voice acting beyond the screams of agony. Blood and gore is turned off in that version though but only because its going to be showcased at Tokyo Game Show in September and the event staff required them not to be too explicit. Its still going to be a feature in both future updates and the final build so its still going to be very brutal.
It's definitely caught my interest. I like when companies can release a good physics based game.
This looks very interesting. Since it's early in development and the players are new to it as well, there's something viscarally unsettling about watching it. It's almost like watching murderous toddlers. I wonder what it will look like as it evolves.
4 views in 2 hours bro fell off
Probably not a known title so it's not being searched for.
sandy
sadly i meant
Tis a silly lookin' game. The highest-level gameplay I've seen of it basically amounts to just flailing your arms around like a bladed tornado.
Yes!!! It's perfect!! Lmao
I hopped into it for the first time last night on normal. And my brain was broken before the first mission was over. Which is excellent, feels like the horrifying anxiety of playing darkest dungeon or xcom. I thoroughly enjoy it so far.
I think they did a great job actually creating tension. I made this short as a sort of joke regarding, what we seem to expect out of Aliens games. I think we can view them more as run and gun shooters than horror/thrillers. Dark Descent did a great job with the audio and ambiance of the Aliens universe. Best Aliens game in a decade.
I am just now starting to try out the Jar-5 Dominator post buff. Originally my top 5 favorite primary weapons in the game were the SG-225 Breaker, SG-225 Breaker Incendiary, AR-23 Liberator, AR-23P Liberator Penetrator, and SG-8 Punisher in that order. However, now I think I might just want to replace the SG-8 Punisher for the Jar-5 Dominator becasue of the added damage and stagger. My top 5 favorite primary weapons list might just turn into SG-225 Breaker, SG-225 Breaker Incendiary, AR-23 Liberator, AR-23P Liberator Penetrator, and Jar-5 Dominator in that order😊.
Don't get me wrong, even pre-buff, I did still like the Dom. I tried to label the pro/cons of each of the weapons and not just say why it was the "meta". That punisher shotty though, is pretty amazing. I do also like the Lib/Pen since they added full-auto.
Glad i didn't waste the money on it...
Well it was just supposed to be a funny video about the experience. I think we all ran to this game. Looking for a hardcore action-packed, run and gun, take the fight to the aliens type game. And it's really not. You have to be a lot more calculated and direct in the decisions that you make. Aliens dark descent is the best aliens game in a decade
@@20MG It might be, but i don't care for the top-down look of Diablo looking games.
Yeah I mean that's totally your jam. I wasn't sure I guess from your comment whether you were just upset at what the difficulty level might be? At least you've done your research. I saw many, many Reddit threads where people were upset buying into the game that it wasn't a first-person shooter.
I'm finding this interesting; an RPG using XCOM - like rules would certainly scratch an itch. Wonder if you might not be moving a little too far, amd should retain more APs for fire.
I should. I'm playing pretty aggressively
I was about to comment when you said it, I'm quite surprised you don't have a sniper in the mix. Don't know what difficulty you're playing on, but you really need a stealthy long-rannge instigator for those later encounters.
Right? I have all this close combat and not a single sniper or DM. That has got to change lol. Rookie move.
@@20MG it's unfortunate and very typical for this kind of CRPG that you can lock yourself out of content and/or mess up your combat success with early decisions. There are a bunch of build templates out there for optimal characters but it feels so rules-lawyery and meta that you have to go to a seperate medium to "properly play" the game. I get that inXile was going for that unforgiving old-school "scrub out till you get it" kind of difficulty, but you do have quite some time investment to restart if you have to, not like a rogue-like where death and restart is quick and built into the game mechanics.
Engagement for the -Machine God- *algorithm*
