    US imperial measurements are an absolute headache to grasp in these videos. A simplle measure turned into a damn novel.. And this, and that, and this and that. Craziness.

    I do have a problem. I tried it and my fence is still inaccurate. The problem is, that I cannot tap anymore on the loosen screws. There is no more space to go in that direction. What now?

    Just a note for those new to sliding table saws: this video violates one of the normal safety rules of using this sort of saw. The rip fence (on the viewer's left) should be pulled back away from the camera, so that it stops before the wood engages with the blade. This substantially decreases the chances of a kickback occurring. Of course, a cut like this in sheet goods doesn't have a high chance of kickback to begin with. But one of the reasons that people like a sliding table saw is the ability to lower the number of kickbacks.

  • @SteneWoodwork
    @SteneWoodwork2 ай бұрын

    When using the rip fence for ripping material, it goes in this position as it is the primary reference when cutting(not engaging the material with the crosscut fence as the primary reference). When using the rip fence for cross-cutting, ie as a length stop while using the cross-cut fence as the primary reference, you set the rip fence back.

  • @missingegg
    @missingegg2 ай бұрын

    @@SteneWoodwork My apologies, you're correct. Re-watching, one can see you don't have the panel up against the crosscut fence once the table is pushed forward.

    I got a Makita 12 inch slider recently and do agree they are mighty smooth to operate. I only found out about the detent plate months after I purchased but wasn’t sure if mine was aluminum or not. I put a magnet on it and found it to stick reliably so not sure if they finally changed them to metal or if the magnet is attaching to the housing underneath. It’s 2023 so maybe Makita finally got their act together. I’ll check your website to see if my model is compatible with your replacement

    Magnets stick to a thin “sub-plate” which is what the knob tightens down on in between detents. That is magnetic from the beginning, the detent plate isn’t

    Looking for a large capacity miter saw for a couple of years now. While I am a Makita guy, I just cannot pull the trigger on a Makita miter saw! They continue to market these flawed products despite the internet being full of complaints about soft detent plates and out of alignment rails. I plan to get a Dewalt 780 soon.

    Dewalt uses a stainless steel detent plate. I’m pretty sure they were first with the detent plate idea too. Dewalt DWS 709 12 inch is one of the best saws out there. It also has the shadow line indicator that Dewalt did first as well

    One would think Makita would do more research and pre-market testing of their fine products before releasing them. Complaints about recurrent engineering problems do NOT help to sell a product.

    The Makita ls1019L sliding compound mitre saw also has the factory defect of the 10" blade colliding with the inner edge of the right fence when the saw is rotated to the left 60 degree mitre cut position. It appears the inner edge of the right fence needs to be trimmed or filed down to permit the blade to slide past and clear the inner edge of the right fence and not collide (metal-to-metal) with it.

    Looks like this was fixed by Makita, I just got mine and the top plate is aluminium but there is now a steel plate laminated on the bottom of the gauge plate!

  • @SteneWoodwork
    @SteneWoodwork7 ай бұрын

    That thin steel plate has always been there, it's not for referencing the miter location but rather a plate that the locking knob grips when tightened down. Also, be careful not to transport the saw while that knob is tightened, bumps can cause that plate to crimp at the knob location, and there's not enough clearance for the table to spin freely after that is crimped. The table will grind on it when you swing from one miter degree to another. Ask me how I know...

    Solution: Keep the pin disengaged until you find the angle you want, ie be more gentle to it instead of just letting it slide and snap in. I know it's not ideal, but oh well.

    Hello and thank you for your video, my saw is having the issue where I can’t swing it back and forth at all even when pressing the tab that supposed to be pressed down and turning the locking mechanism handle piece that locks and unlocks the ability to swing the arm into various degrees… I apologize for not knowing better/proper nomenclature of the parts of the saw but would greatly appreciate any help or advice on what to do to fix this problem. Thanks for taking the time to read this

    Sorry for the late reply. Under the blue throat plate there is a bolt, I think around 14mm. Loosen that SLIGHTLY, very slightly, until it moves easily but doesn't cause the table of the saw to be too loose.
