Thanks for the video I have one that came in a box of fixer uppers not working one bail spring was bad but got it back together and it works with just one wore out spring. I did buy 2 new ones thats why I looked up your video. Good work they are kinda fiddly for a Mitchell.

For the internal parts I use a ultrasonic cleaner with water/Dawn/Simple Green mixture. For the external parts I use a parts washer with straight WD40 in it, I buy it by the gallons! Thanks for watching!

Very ingenious! I love it. I have all the Penn Z reels except the two ultralights. I’ve used my 706Z since the 1970s. I love that reel for surf fishing. Great video!

Thanks for the Tutorial just got my 60s ambassadör 5000 in the mail today and i stripped it down and washed it all out regreased&lubed everything and the only difference in our reel that there was a black nylon washer below the white spacer up to the handle or bushing . Other than that pretty much the same reel ive got a single handle on mine just because om a clumbsy retriever . Their totalt worth that low $ for a reel in this condition i payed 31$ with shipping it would have been around 50-60$ if it were a 60s handle on it . Pike fishing in Emån tomorrow here in Sweden ! I actually been to the Svängsta factory back in 2003 i had an internship in Mörrum at the Fishfarmery down there . That could be a loose rotor assembly, push the button in, hold the rotor out, and tighten it

It could be a number of things. Remove the cap on the line guide and make sure the pawl is in there Second could be the gear that rotates the worm gear could be broken or not engaged to the main gear. It's really hard to say without looking at it

I have one with the pouch, paperwork, etc. Near perfect cosmetically and works perfectly, so the risk vs reward isn't there for me to take it apart at the moment. Still, I'm curious what it looks like inside if there's a video out there somewhere. Thx!

I have a semi-dumb question. I just got a Daiwa 1600C. It was my dad's. The handle is on the wrong side for me. Can the handle be swapped to the other side? I am afraid to do it because I do not want to break or ruin it. I want to fish with it to have some memories of fishing with my dad.

@Lambmit adjust the spool tension knob so that the line drops to the floor when the spool is released with out the spool continuing to turn. Lure tied on and rod held level to the ground

I have my dad's 1355 He told me he got it when he was 17yo. That would be 1956. I'm goimg to go fishing with it on my great great uncles split cane H-I Chesapeake Rod this week. I want to at least catch one fish on it before I pass it on to my Grandson.

It's a shame soo many people think that a quality reel is the one with the most ball bearings, when its metallurgy first followed by the location of the bushings or bearings. I learned to appreciate good brass bushings when fishing saltwater.

I just bought a similar reel and was wondering how you deal with not getting a birds nest.

Start out with about a half a spool of line, 20lb test max. Install the centrifugal weights on the spool. Let the rod do the work, don't try to overcast it, just let it load up and swing it forward while thumbing the inside of the spool, not the line. Feather it until whatever your casting nears the water then put the brakes on it with your thumb! Practice, practice, practice

Two things. Yes, that is the original handle that Diawa put on the reel. I have a GS-10X that I bought about 45ish years ago new and that is the same handle that came on mine. The other thing, if you ever run into another reel that has coagulated grease as bad as this one had or you ever take this one apart to clean and lube it in the furure, try using denatured alcohol. It is a mild solvent that will breakdown the grease. I use it with a soft bristle toothbrush and it gets the job done very well. It has never damaged paint or plastic and you can soak the bearings in it. I would not soak anything like the spool which has a sticker. It can breakdown the glue on the spool sticker, but the metal parts should be okay to soak in it.

I prefer WD40 to clean anything that is painted or has stickers. So far, after 45 years of doing so for reels in my collection, I haven't had an issue with stickers, paint, or imprinted logos etc on the graphite bodies. Thank you for the info on the handle and for watching the video!

@@jonhammes6209 WD-40 is an excellent product. I spray down every reel after use and wipe with a soft cloth. Its water displacing properties are great for getting water out of the areas that just a wipe down with a cloth will miss.
