Hello travelers. I love America’s town centers and hope to bring attention to them. After all, they are the front door to our communities, and we should not let them fall into decay. The land, rivers, and lakes around them are beautiful as well, so be sure to join me on those adventures too.

Yes sir looks like a nice little town and the locals probably prefer it that way! I'm surprised the old wood buildings are still standing. Probably Date back to the late 1800's. Looks like a lot of noisy traffic flow in town just passing by however.❤
Yep, if I lived there I would want it to stay just the way it is.
would you recommend moving there?
I love the upstate area of South Carolina, but have not spent enough time there to recommend one town over the other. Sorry I could not be more helpful. I think all the towns are worth visiting if you are thinking about moving.
@@TimothyFrench thank you for the reply.... always looking
What a very nice walk and talk tour of Ridgeway, SC, town center, Timothy! That's a beautiful, peaceful, clean, small town that is vibrant. I thank you, Timothy, so much for respecting and paying homage to the former residents of Ridgeway who are at rest in that historic church's graveyard. I wish more people would take the time to visit graveyards/cemeteries to help ensure that those who are buried there are not forgotten. After all, they are an important part of our country's history. That historic town well turned Police Station is now considered the "World's Smallest Police Station." The area where you entered the station was added in 1940. The back area of the station with the now arched windows is where the well was located, and the arched openings allowed people access to the well. In answer to your question about tall doors on buildings, in the 19th and early 20th century, people were less dependent on artificial lighting and artificial ventilation systems, hence the reason for the bigger doors. In answer to your question about a coin being left on a grave's headstone, a coin left on a headstone lets the deceased soldier's family know that somebody stopped by to pay their respect. A penny means you visited. A nickel means you and the deceased veteran trained at boot camp together, and a dime means you and the deceased veteran served together in some capacity. I really enjoyed this video, Timothy! GOD bless!
I love old cemeteries, there’s a quiet beauty to them. And the tall doors for ventilation and light makes sense. Thanks for filling us in. I always look forward to your post.
I always look forward to your videos and your genuine, kind spirit, Timothy!
Another enjoyable tour. Thanks Timothy.
Ridgeway was a great small town to visit.👍
The "fancy building" on the left at the beginning is the Federal Courthouse (originally the Customs Office), that "water fountain" is a fountain - but was originally made for horses to use (you can see the horse carvings). If you had gone a little east of Market towards 3rd you'd run into the Burgwin-Wright House (Colonial) and just two blocks north the Latimer House (Victorian). A town full of history and great shopping and good food.
Thanks for sharing some of Wilmington’s history with us. I can’t wait to return.
What a sweet little town Timothy. Thanks for walking us around.
You’re welcome, Bobby. Glad to have you along.👍
Non-military graves A nickel left on a non-military grave can mean that the visitor went to school with the deceased
I did not know that. Thanks for the information.👍
Nice little town thanks Timothy for sharing
@kayrhoney543 You’re welcome, Kay.😀
My home town
The tory oak was struck by lightning in the early 2000s or so. The tree behind dooleys i think is tom dulas tree. Idk but for whatever reason they built the parking lot around it. Lol
Those trees have some interesting stories to tell for sure.
@@TimothyFrench yes I'm sure. Dooley's tavern has amazing food though! Try the judges burger. So good!
@DickiesPawesomeHomestead i will. Thanks for the tip.
Should go over to Mayberry days in mt airy of you're andy Griffith fan.

Lol never seen someone get so excited about wilkesboro before lol. Rogers, I think has reopened. If not, the locals still call it that. It's 50s style restaurant and shakes. That's pretty much the most exciting thing about the entire town 😆. Just kidding, Brame Huies is a very old drug store. Pronounced with a hard long A like "games" but with a br. The pedestrian thing you walked over, they used to do civil war reinactments down in the field during apple fest. I don't think they do anymore. I don't go to apple fest because they charge about 20 bucks for a candy apple lol. You should come back and visit call distillery. They have a bunch of old moonshine memorabilia from prohibition in there.
Thanks for the local information. I will definitely check those things out the next time I visit.👍
had been here
Chain link fence is gone now!
Thanks for the update.👍
Don't even waste your time moving here or in Robeson county for that matter , all the plants as re closed no jobs , if your a Mexican you might make it
Thank you kindly Mr French. My mom and I are thoroughly enjoying your videos as we plan to move to NC from Hollywood Florida within two years. We are both craving more trees and less high rises if you know what I mean. We are watching all your videos and we really love your laid back approach to showing us around. We feel like we are right there with you. We’ll make comments as we go along. Murphy was the first one we watched. Thanks again for making these videos, we love them ♥️
Thank you, Maggie. I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. I hope you and your mom find the perfect hometown to move to. Thanks for subscribing and commenting.❤️

The mirror is actually not new. It’s just got repainted that’s been there for years. And the building at the Pepi logo is on that used to be a wonderful café called the backdoor café now it’s a steakhouse.

I'll never forget many local church Pastor saying Shelby would go to ruin by passing Liquor by the drink. But turns out it made the town even better.
Shelby NC is one of the greatest Towns in NC or anywhere. Great people, eating places, park very good Police Force. It always growing in a positive way. I'm really waiting for them complete the Harmony Trail. The only negative point would no real Bike lanes.
I love Shelby as well. Thanks for posting 👍

They definitely need more people to stop in.
Lived here through the 90s Its a good place to be from but not enough jobs to go around so a lot of young men and women have to move in search of employment
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the town.👍
I drove through this town just yesterday coming back to lincolnton NC from Summerville SC .Stanley seemed like a nice quiet little Town .I from San Diego California so this is total different animal for me.

Next generation maybe

Thanks for the speed trap tip.
Serenity is definitely alive in Blythewood, SC! The town also has a strong equestrian tradition and is well known as being the home of the University of South Carolina's Equestrian Center, which once served as the training ground for a US Olympic Equestrian team's horsemen and horsewomen. As it relates to Blythewood holding their 4th of July celebration on July 3rd, there are a lot of towns and some cities that now do this everywhere so that town/city employees who would otherwise have to work the fireworks celebration, will not have to give up the official July 4th holiday (which they too are entitled to observe free of a work requirement) to do so.
Thanks for another great post. I had no idea they had a strong equestrian tradition.
Pomaria is now popular as a trailhead/stop for the Palmetto Trail(Hiking)
Thanks for letting us know.👍
should have driven on main Street--- the "downtown"=classic deserted ghost town look
I'm glad I am able to come along on the journey. I'm seeing places I have never heard of before. Thanks Timothy.
I’m seeing many of them for the first time as well. It has been a great journey so far. And I’m glad to have you along.
Blenheim ginger ale owns it now. They produced ginger ale over in Blenheim SC , just a few miles west
Thanks for the information. I have never heard of them before 👍
enjoy your Sunday! 💚
You do the same, Kelly.
Quiet town for sure. Was through here a few times in our travels. Called a lazy porch swing town 😂
I liked this small town. Definitely a porch swing type of place, which is nice.
Yes sir my wife and I were through here about a month ago and they had an arts festival under the downtown market was really nice. And Sherman s March didn't leave much of this town left back in the civil war era. But looks like they built back very nice over the years!
I agree. Thanks for watching 👍
Lexington, SC, once a laid-back, close-knit small town, is now an extremely popular suburb of Columbia, SC. While the town has a nice downtown area and is still touted to have a "small town feel" by real estate agents and developers, in reality it is no longer a small town as they are now experiencing many drawbacks and challenges caused/created by overdevelopment and continued growth of new residents. Lexington is now the most populated town in Lexington County, SC, and the second-most populated municipality in the greater Columbia, SC, area. Housing prices are now well above-market in some areas which has priced out many people who call Lexington home or want to move there. With the constant influx of new residents, heavy traffic congestion on all of the area's roads is now the norm and a major problem. The schools in Lexington have become overcrowded as a result, and the southern charm/hospitality mentality is slowly fading away in some areas.
I felt that as well. The same thing is happening to towns around major cities in all of the Carolinas. It’s a shame because we have so many great towns to choose from, but it seems like everyone wants to live in just a few, and I’m not sure why.
Those who leave a large city only to relocate to a fastly-growing popular suburb of another large city won't be there long either because they will quickly find out that the mindset and problems they initially left behind have made their way to the new place they call home too.
I enjoyed your tour of Lexington. Thank for all you do Timothy.
And thank you for being a subscriber, Terry 😀
Looking great nice town thanks
You’re welcome, Kay. 😀
I spent my 3rd honeymoon here. Been goin back ever since. Probably 30 times, and I never seen the splash pad thing. You did a good job on the video man. Thank you
It is definitely a unique piece of Americana. 👍
Absolutely boring on a Sunday😂
🗣️ Anyone visiting Shelby NC needs to inquire into the Maurice Burris -Hunt story. Its an incredible, story and new age mystery. In July 2013 the Native American biracial blackman was publicly acknowledged as heir grandson of trucking mogul JB Hunt & a JP Morgan blood heir after receiving a multi billion dollar inheritance. Before he could conceal it or change his name the story went viral. He held numerous news conferences. However after sudden mental health issues the billions reportedly went missing & suddenly his lineage began being challenged. Despite millions given away to area citizens.
Interesting story. Thanks for sharing the information 🙃
