I just lived this, where I just discovered Fortnite cards recently and looking through eBay was daunting with all the different prices and locations and such. I bought my favorite skin Luminos in cracked ice and started looking into the hobby more. Discovered the usa/italy/brazil difference, started learning where cracked ice came from, learned that cracked ice is called ‘crystal shards’ in series 1 for some reason. I was starting to think I was understanding it all, and then was hit with that my Luminos skin from series 2 doesn’t come from mega boxes like other cracked ice? It’s a ‘promo’? How did you get promos? More and more research needed to be done again. My point is, there’s a lot to this hobby and I would love for you all to spend some time explaining this stuff to anyone trying to get in. I get that most of your audience on these streams are hardcore collectors and really only care about series 1 and crystal shards. I mean I get it, it’s like base set pokemon, but I feel like everything but series 1 gets neglected (or high end series 2 cracked ice). When all these cards are 100s of dollars it’s not feasible for a lot of people but it feels like that’s all that gets talked about. It’d be so interesting to listen to you all talk about how a beginner would start with say $300. Would they buy 1 s1 shard and be done? Or would they buy s3 blasters and s3 mega boxes and maybe a few lasers that looked cool, maybe some frozen optichrome. Series 3 fat pack boxes are cheap rn and so much fun to open. Maybe they buy an Italy series 2 mega box as well. I love this channel and community but it seems that the only things that get discussed are items that you have to drop bands on, making no room for kids

I would disagree that people would want recon expert over Aerial Assault Trooper. The OGs might because of the history of her in the first chapter. The kids coming in since chapter 2 only hear of Aerial Assault Trooper when they hear OG. Recon had her day but Aerial Assault Trooper would be more wanted than Recon. Just my opinion.

I was surprised at how low you both value pickaxes. 100% agree they are weak with what they picked (low key like the Axercisor the best) but no other set had pickaxes so I thought they’d be worth a bit more just for being unique. Love the discussion!

Speaking of series 3, I’ve opened half a fat pack case so far and have pulled 2 legendary optis and a few holos.. but have yet to get even frozen holo. Thinking those things are pretty rare. I’m not even sure frozen comes in blaster and mega packs?

I don’t have a horse in the race so I don’t really care it just felt like a blanketed statement with no evidence. TAG doesn’t charge based on value? I love that, it always seemed scammy to me that they take a cut of the card value. Especially when the value skyrockets if they mark it a 10

Hey Kevin I (Rob) was specifically talking in our hobby and the ones that complain about the upcharges but haven’t experienced it really besides during the pandemic shut down. TAG is amazing and there are a good amount of collectors that don’t like PSA like you said and think they are scammy and that’s ok! In my personal opinion it’s more of selective outrage instead of personal experience when it comes to some collectors (not you) about upcharging. It’s a lot of examples I can give here when I have more time to type. What I will do is use myself as an example for the problem here. I recently submitted a cracked ice USA aura. I used Value Plus ($24.99 500 dollars or less) because based off my eyes and grading experience it was a PSA 9 with a slight chance at a PSA 10. Also when I shipped it I had to protect my package and put a value on the card insurance wise just in case it got lost in transit, that value was $600 based off of private and public sales I know of. So at this point I value it raw as $600 and a PSA 9 possibly could go for slightly higher. The card ended up getting a PSA 9 and I didn’t get upcharged, if that card would have gotten a 10 I would have been and upcharged +$40 for a card that is now over a $1000 dollars on its worst day. Now if I would have tried to sneak this card into a bulk submission at $14.99 knowing good and well it’s worth way more than that even in a PSA 8 and I end up getting a PSA 9 I’m going to get upcharged $74.99 not $14.99 because it has succeeded its value. I get messages throughout the week because I do like PSA with many scenarios like this of collectors trying to beat the system and I’m not mad at them for it. That’s what I was getting at when I said it’s not as many upcharges as people think it’s more of people trying to beat the system sending cards in a value category it doesn’t fit. I also understand the whole value aspect is the problem in the first place which I respect; but there are maybe 15-20 cards in the whole Fortnite hobby that you will drastically get upcharged for and those cards get pulled and graded maybe 3-5 times a year max. So that’s what I was getting at when I said people are getting upcharged as much as we think based off the top values of the cards in the hobby and the value options we have a choice to submit at with PSA. @KevinGarcia-jy1gs In situations where there isn’t a near recent public sale or sales to go off of you more than likely won’t get upcharged unless that specific cards sales consistent of strong in the grade below it! Obviously not investment advice but I do think that’s a great buy. Especially during this current market. Looking for clean quality ones will be a fun challenge though lol!!

I with you, I think it’s crazy that you could break a slab, send it in and get a better grade. At the very least they should have a computer measure centering. Is the issue with kurts card care is that it fades over time? If this is the issue I get it, but if not and a card can be cleaned up/fixed then it deserves the higher grade imo

The issues is that we don’t know if there are any long term effects like fading. The solution is not disclosed and the cards are soaked for a lengthy period of time. Because of this PSA can’t guarantee the condition of the card over time.

Most definitely. Put them in individual penny sleeves and card protectors. You want to minimize scratches on the surface and the plastic and cards on top of each other can cause damage over time
