    were you given handouts to start out this venture? Did u start selling one car at a time from home?

  • @Stevesautos
    @StevesautosАй бұрын

    @lmr9512 I bought my first sales car when I was 19, I was working nights for Parcel Force (Royal Mail) while putting myself through university (I come from a under privileged background), one of the drivers had an old Land Rover series 3 in the staff carpark, he had been trying to sell it in the yellow free ads (before internet) for months for £200 but didn't even get a call. One night the manager came and said the big bosses were coming to visit the depot the next day and everyone had to clean the place, plus this Land Rover had to go that night. The driver had nowhere to store it and asked me if I wanted to buy it, he said it had £50 a diesel in it and to make him an offer, so I gave him £50 for it, drove it home and the next day I put it up for sale for £900 in the same yellow paper that he had, I had something like 15 calls on it and within twenty Four hours someone came and gave me £800 cash for it. I took that £800 and bought another car and that's how I started, selling one at a time, I had no storage and wasn't registered as a trader or even knew what I was doing. A short time later my dad passed away and I had to make money while continuing my education, I worked evenings in a local hotel, delivered curries on the weekends, and sold cars so I could give my mum some money. I grafted for everything, and lost it all twice, but cars have always been my back up income. If anything, my journey with cars proves that you can start with very little, in difficult circumstances, and make money.

    You forgot the VAT and tax on the income

  • @Stevesautos
    @Stevesautos2 ай бұрын

    No I didn't, you pay tax at the end of the year based on the total profits from all vehicles, if you take 100% of the profit made on your first car and buy another car, you don't pay tax on stock. And I also didn't forget VAT, you won't be VAT registered when you first start out, you need to turn over £90K before you need to register for VAT.

    Thanks mate, I'm working on more content, I'm so busy I struggle to get it all recorded and edited, but I am working on it. I actually started in Newport, so not far from you, from a terraced house, I made sure I only bought the cheap to-tax cars so I could legally keep them on the road, as long as you tell your insurance company you can do it legally. I had one car at a time in the beginning and then when I had more vehicles I would ask friends, family, and even neighbors who had some off-road parking if I could use their drive, whenever I sold a car I would buy them a bottle of wine or something as a thank you. There's always a way, if you're going to start, now is a great time, summer is here so lighter nights and better weather to get them cleaned. Best of luck, you can do it.

    It's people like this guy who are the reason all our insurance premiums go up, he ran in to the back of me, took responsibility and then a few days later claimed I reversed in to him, that could have cost me my no claims and my premium going up next year. What it actually did was cost the insurance company to investigate, plus a hire car for every day they they took to prove it. I think people who do this should be named and shamed, especially as my insurance company proved he was in the wrong. I personally think people who lie in these situations should be prosecuted.

    Hey Steven thanks for the video Is there a website that lets you determine the trade price for cars? Also why are cars priced at £1995 for example? Why not £2000? Cheers and thanks again the video!

  • @Stevesautos
    @Stevesautos3 ай бұрын

    hey @luqmankhan9631 There's Glass guide and CAP HPI, which can give you an idea of trade value and retail value, but you need to use your common sense, the car condition will adjust the price. In reality, you don't need to subscribe to these as most auctions will tell you the trade value in the catalog, but as with everything it isn't that simple. I'm trying to put out a video every two weeks at the moment and I have been asked this question several times before, I will make this video for you guys by the end of the month, it will be a walk-through of how I price cars up, and you can take from that what you will.

  • @Stevesautos

    No, I'm registered as a trader so the logbook never gets sent off, you can either send off the trade slip on the logbook or register it online as in trade. This way the DVLA know you have the vehicle but it does not add any owners to the logbook.
