It was a great race. GH Jnr is still bitter about being beaten 24 year later on.

Imo The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games is quite possibly the greatest Olympic Games ever. 34 world records were set and it had some of the greatest, legendary and memorable moments such as the debut of the then young Micheal Phelps, Cathy Freeman winning gold in the 400m Sprint, Ian Thorpe’s performance here and who could forget Eric The Eel, all legends in their own right

Im Aussie, but ive always wondered if Thorpe didnt use that full body suit, would he have been as good as he was? Because i know that shark skin suit got banned so wonder if that gave him the advantage over the others, as i dont think any other top swimmers wore the full body suit back then did they?

Everyone remembers Thorpey's incredible finish - even in 2023. But Klim STARTED the race with a WORLD RECORD! 😲👍 A brilliant TEAM effort! 🥇 Thorpe's languid but brutally efficient stroke (especially compared to Hall) is a thing of athletic beauty. 😍 M 🦘🏏😎

Thorpe had just won the 400m free and had the presentation medal prior to this, and had to wear the same swimsuit because his 3 spares snapped as they were trying to get him quickly changed! He only made it out to that decks as they were calling the teams out for the race! Incredible.
