    Been there several times, did some panning where it opens up to Alatoona but I didn’t really find anything. I know exactly the area. It was a killer bringing back three 5 gallon buckets all the way back to parking lot. If you continue left along the bank where the river opens into the lake, you’ll see some cave locations. Definitely need weighted or muck boots

    I'm heading to the area for vacation soon so I watched your video for an idea of what is in the area, I might recommend a drop of jetdry to break surface tension of the water I have noticed even being heavy gold can float when it's tiny. as far as easier ways you seem pretty handy there are cheap effective thinks you can build to make separating a lot easier.

  • @HighPassGuy

    It's not a County regulation. This is a Corps of Engineers thing.... On PRIVATE property in the county you can use whatever you want. I am unsure about parks, etc but would think sluice box is OK but I wouldn't bring out a 3" dredge and start working, lol! You can NOT use anything but shovel and pan in close proximity to Allatoona and specifically on Corps of Engineers property.

    There are 3 (if people park right) spots at this one. I've never had any problem squeezing in and that's only been a couple of times. It's usually just me as I usually go when its colder. Poison Ivy and bugs suck. This place is a 10 minute walk from the car if that. At other places, I'll hike in as far as an hour for that hidden good gold that no one else wants to make the hike for :)

    Those ground clamps have a hole and a screw for a reason: to put the wire though. That being said, using those clamps outside will result in failure from moisture and will not take much of a lightning hit. They should be welded. Also, ALL ground rods are to be bonded together, and to the service grounding electrode system; no isolated ground rods.

    What a surprise to find your video in my feed. I grew up around Sixes, before Bridgemill and all the development in the area. I can remember when Sixes Road was so narrow, tree limbs would cross over it making like a tunnel of sorts in some places. I used to notice tailings along the banks of Downing Creek when I'd go hiking to the lake. I knew there was gold mining back in the day, just thought it was all gone. I now live in the Sierra Nevada near the Sierra Buttes where the largest gold nugget in the US was discovered called the "Monumental" nugget which weighed in at 106 lbs! Wouldn't that be a nice find in your backyard panning excursions!

    everyone has their own way to pan, but I think you can be more sure that the gold is at the bottom from the first few shakes. Even small flakes are heavier than the sand and dirt and rocks. Put some gold into different stuff that you usually pan and practice with it - and you'll find that alot of that shaking is unnecessary.

    Pretty slick. Still working well? Any issues with water? HOA sneaking around? The can go pound sand. I can tell you what I'd do if I saw anyone, other than who I've invited on my property, walking around my yard.... But you could probably guess what I'd do 😈 but, I would think the HOA would be just fine with your setup since it can't be seen. That's the hang up with them. They don't want a VOA antenna farm. For most of us the issue isn't any H.O.A. anyhow, it's the W.I.F.E. 😂 I wish I had trees to hide an antenna in. I guess I'll plant some pine trees or something. What is heliax?

    You did a neat job. However, you should never have multiple ground rods - if lightning strikes nearby, you can get a potential of millions of volts between them and blowup your ham (and other) equipment. Also, I'm with the guy who said that those sprinkler boxes fill up with water. It may have helped to fill the bottom with gravel to help it drain. Third thing, CAT6 cable has a 100-meter limitation, depending what you are using it for, and bandwidth.

  • @HighPassGuy
    @HighPassGuy3 жыл бұрын

    Yeah, I learned my lesson with the boxes.. Definitely going deeper and with several inches of gravel at the bottom next time. I'm in IT so I know the distance limitations, however, I never got to use the CAT cable. I've had to leave that installation behind, unfortunately.. something something evil woman used me as a meal ticket.. I'll be documenting the build up of my new station at my new QTH as soon as I'm settled.
