  I call bs. I just dug up 15 freaking trees where no one raked leaves for several years and it caused mildew and disease in nearly every tree on the property. The leaves being left to rot can kill the trees and bushes as well as keep unwanted bugs alive. And that's in North America.

  Umm you also don't take into account that the native Americans managed the forests by making controlled burns of the forests. They would go in and burn the floor coverings in a controlled manner to enrich the soil. Nature has a way of blooming after a fire.
