Is there an advantage to spraying plus crimping vs just crimping? I’m interested in this method as I’ve got heavy clay soil as well with limited access with heavy machinery other than some homemade atv implements. Great info!

As they say one man's advantage is anothers disadvantage, Im not sure there is crimping it green preserves more soil moistre and in the rye stems, but I did have a better soybean crop in the sprayed to terminate & then crimped 10-days/2weeks later.

Another great video Jake! I love those runways behind your wall of cover along the food. If I'm able, I use that same set-up and you're right, those travel-ways can be awfully fun during the rut. Please keep sharing your knowledge with the next generation of deer habitat managers!

Smooth move exlax. Just let your dog walk through the Glysophate or whatever you are using. I'm not wasting my time watching a guy that isn't smart enough to know why you shouldn't do that. Idiot.

I’m leaving a 10 yard strip of field around my food plots. I will have to go through and hinge some trees to help promote browse in these areas

Great video, that area along your food must have really come a long ways since I’ve been there. Love the hinge cut areas and travel corridors thru them to get to the destination food. Gives me some ideas. You’re so right about the “process” thanks Jake!

If you’re going to plant a spruce plant a White rather than Norway. Native north American trees will always fit better in the habitat and be favored by all critters

  • @habitatsolutions360llc3
    @habitatsolutions360llc3Ай бұрын

I try to seed the HD sorghum @ 12-15 lbs/acre seeding rate and broadcast the switchgrass @ 7-10 lbs/acre seeding rate, my goal is a very thick switchgrass screen not to create bedding habitat.

Oats as a nurse crop can really be beneficial especially when you have a high deer density.

That matted section of SG🌾, would that self choke out if not burned and managed ? I am finding that in my stand since I can not burn🔥 in my area . Think mowing and chopping that Thatch up in spring would help prevent that in my situation ?

I basically did the same except I put HD screen along the shady side of my switch. Both turned out better than expected except the farmer nuked 200' of my switchgrass. That was 2 years ago. He stayed way off my edge this year so far. Got some RC Bigrock to fill in my original Cave and Rock. Also sprayed quinclorac the first weekend in June to get rid of some foxtail grass. Hope it does the trick for me. Anyway, nice video sir.

  • @habitatsolutions360llc3

Its a bit thick to overseed rye in with any kind of success, but yes I did mow it during the first year to set back weeds & grasses. However, I do overseed my brassica & soybean plots each September with rye.

Yes Ill be doing one soon, I did a test this year where I burned one half and left the other half with all the S/G standing and Ill show the results. I'd give it a go, many of my clients have used this method and they get just as or better results especialy when using the RC BigRock S/G.

When do you plant a cover crop of rye and crimson clover? Im planning to plant soybeans in June and over seed with brassics in August. I have other plots Im planning to plant in August with fall annuals and was considering planting a cover crop on them now just not sure if its worth it for a few weeks of cover and I don't see a window of time for a cover crop in the soybeans sense they go in early and stay all season.

  • @habitatsolutions360llc3

That happened as a result of several ice storms taking the top leader branches off, you could trim off the top of yours and they will bush out. Good luck & thanks for asking.

I got 5 of these from Arbor Day and they are also around 12-18 inches 😂 Really want to use these as privacy screen for my hill to keep my noisy neighbors from well… being nosy and looking down into our place. Always feel like I have eyes on us while I garden etc… I was reading that these have shallow tap roots- would these be knocked down easily by a wind/snow storm? Wouldn’t want them to land on my/neighbors yards and damage things 😔 We didn’t realize these would get so big and wide when we made donations to Arbor Day and were gifted these lol

Love it Jake! Thanks for working so closely with John Komp at Northwoods to bring that blend to the rest of us. We all benefit from your willingness to share. I bet that chicory made for a beautiful pollinator plot when it flowered. That's one of my favorite wildflowers. Wisconsin's hill country road shoulders and ditches are lined with it. Absolutely beautiful stuff. Also loved seeing that Earth Blind waterhole still producing right where you put it all those years back! God bless you sir!
