    Love your builds and tutorials. I always get inspired to play the game every time I come to one of your great videos. I have an observation and question because I don't think I am the only one with this view, and I want to understand what you do better so I can understand what I would need to do in my game batter as well: Sometimes when I look at your (or other KZreadr's) finished products (like your example town at 0:29) I can't help but notice that it feels very easy to get distracted from the big picture by all of the details in the terrain. To elaborate, when I am looking at the scene I referenced, I can definitely make out the larger structures (they stand out more because), ships (they are contrasted heavily by the uniformity of the blue water), and the well marked path in the center leading up the hill to the big estate (it is also contrasted nicely by the greenery around it). I have a harder time looking a the portion of the town just below, between the hill and the pier. It takes me a lot longer, and I need to pause to be able to really understand what I'm looking at because the amount of detailing blocks used seem to "fuzz up" the scene and make things blend into each other too abruptly. I can easily and quickly distinguish the contrast between the cobblestone roof lines and the planks that fill up the rest of the roofs, but the pathways between each structure takes me significantly longer to make out because it seems so busy with blocks. Now, with all that said, my question is: How much does the blocky nature of the game affect the visuals of detailing? (example: too many "oooh, what's that? oh it's just one block... oooh what's that? Oh, another block... OOOH..." moments distracting an observer from the bigger/intended picture)

  • @Avomance
    @Avomance16 сағат бұрын

    It's actually a super good question Atlaswraith. The answer is, as is so often the case, it depends. By that I mean, it depends on the intention. IF you are going for an experience from a distance then the detail needs to pull back a bit and allow the eye to see "harder lines" of the focal structures. Like you say, the bushes etc can "blur the edges" of a scene quite a lot and distract from it. On the other hand, If the intent is that the "viewer" is going "into the picture", (like with Avornia, where the intent is a world download and experience from within the world), then the detail is at least as important as the structures. Each step your avatar takes needs to be surrounded by the Lore so the trees, bushes, path transitions, little water features, wells, rocks etc all become really important. The trip hazard is when you are representing it. In a video, you have to do macro even if you are "micro-planning" so you have to sometimes compromise a little on the blurring to give the end effect to the people that have jumped int the map. I hope that "kind of" makes sense and that I have answered your question? If I haven't then please do let me know! :) Thanks loads for taking the time to watch and write your question!

  • @atlaswraith

    @Avomance First, let me thank you for taking the time to answer! I am sure the rest of your audience may find this interaction as helpful as I have for their own styles and goals within their game worlds. I do feel that this answers my question and even gives me a point of view I didn't think of before: THE lore of the point of view itself. I can think creatively about a lot of things, and also not many things at the same time. I sometimes still need a different point of view on how to approach things in order to get the desired effect I am going for, whatever it is that I'm doing. In this context, you reference lore. That's one of those things I don't seem to think about enough when I'm in-game trying to create something. I usually from a perspective of "oh, I saw this really cool thing I want to try and build with my own spin on it!" Too often I don't remember the part where LORE may apply because I'm so excited to try the thing out. And lore is going to probably play a key role in what story or point of view I am trying to convey to myself when I finish something and come back to see it later with fresh eyes. Since I only play by and for myself, I guess I never considered the lore point of view and the perspective I would like that to pair with. I like learning these sorts of things!

    I wanted a below ground one. I wanted to test a single plant setup before expanding. I also want all 24 kelp from each plant when it's ready, so the harvesting piston is at +1, or y49. The issue is how to set up the repeater and redstone wiring so that each does not interfere with the plant/piston/observer next to it. I'm a bit new to redstone wiring techniques so any suggestions are welcome. I really want the water columns below ground, and the kelp will be collected at the top as kelp floats. With just the one column built so far, you can see how perfectly concealed the farm will be and not blot up the landscape. My cane farm is built the standard way, and I think it just looks ugly, with no fix except to hide it below ground also.

  • @Avomance
    @Avomance15 сағат бұрын

    You would need to have a completely independant redstone signal going from your observers at the top of the farm to the pistons at the bottom. you "COULD" do this with a staggered observer tower on the back of each one, but thats quite cumbersome. Why do you need them to be separate? If you power all the pistons when one get tall enough you shave the whole kelp stack and they all start growing from the same height again. I reckn thats the easiest way

    Barely related to this video, but I have a challenge for you Avomance. The challenge is to be more logical with your texuring - as it is, your texturing is rather random and chaotic. You have done some logical texturing, with where the mossy cobblestone (and such) is. Please answer if you want clarification, or to decline. ...Anyway, I did enjoy watching the video.

  • @Avomance
    @AvomanceКүн бұрын

    Please do clarify! I’d love to inderstand

  • @nickjayyoung7662
    @nickjayyoung7662Күн бұрын

    @@Avomance Okay, how do I clarify myself.... Scenario: We shall assume you're building a house that has been damaged in the past, and we'll assume that the sun is to the east of the house. We'll assume it is two-storeys tall, with a basement below, that it has a balcony to the east, and that the entrance is on the south side of the house. We'll assume the ground/first floor is has Stone Bricks walls, and the upper/second floor has Oak Planks. Also, we'll assume the damaged accured on the south-eastern side. Here's a method to texture the house above: - Deepslate Bricks would be a good "shadow block" for texturing the areas that are blocked from the sun's light. But, this can only be on the western side, below ledges and in other areas. You're trying to cast a shadow... This will be most evident in the area where the balcony meets the wall - where the sun cannot reach. ∙ Cobblestone is a good block to indicate extreme damage, with Cracked Stone Bricks surrounding that Cobblestone to show how far the damage is. ∙ Cracked Stone Bricks near the door and windows will show that the house is starting to wear down with age... ∙ Birch Planks can be used to show the the sun has shining directly on the upper walls, and that the sun's light has bleached the walls over time. I hope that demonstrates what I'm challenging you to do. Don't randomly texture a build, try being more logical with your texturing. (Make a video if you do this challenge, please.)

  • @Avomance

    Yes you can take a signal from the cart using a comparator. A comparator can read the contents of a minecart with hopper if its on a detector rail by placing the comparator facing away from the block the detector is on... it needs to be a solid block.
