  Thanks for the post. This was really interesting to me! I was born and raised in Honolulu and used to go to Obon all the time back home. We call this odori Fukushima Ondo back home. The melody is the same, but our dancing is very different! It is usually the last dance of the evening.

  Yeah I been to Obon Odori all over Northern California and some of the dances are a different from city to city but more less the same, but in Lodi we start and finish with Bon Odori No Uta -Uchiwa . I seen some of Odori on KZread from Hawaii and some are very fast pace with large crowds of people-oh the joys of Obon

  Yes live performance are best,especially for Obon but most have recordings,I've only went five Obon/bazaar this year and only two had groups performing, many towns and city in Northern California have Obon 's I think from early June to late August there's 2 or 3 every weekend.

  This is great Live Japanese Uta Shamisen players singing Naichi music for their Obon odori. Where is Lodi? What state is this in? I see all the Haole people dancing here. Bon Odori has become so international now.

  Jimmie Kubota Here in Hawaii we would appreciate this since it is big here. We have a large Japanese & Okinawan community. Our group plays live Okinawan music which makes it more exciting & lively. This song is very popular here & the crowds at the Bon odori are not Asian people but all people. Thank you for sharing this.

  Sorry,sorry,didn’t see this message 4 year late ouch, sorry Lodi small city in Northern California ,we still have live band many larger cities Obon festival don’t ,I usually go to about 5-6 Obon festival/Odori but not this year huh take care.
