Ikenna

Ikenna

Co-founder of Fluyo. At 16 years old I could only speak English. By 30 years old my mission is to speak 10 languages.

My goal is to inspire you, make you laugh, and help you learn your target languages.

I currently speak English, Japanese, Russian, French, Dutch, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish (but I'm still learning every day!)

My philosophy is that language learning needs to be as fun as possible in order to be as efficient as possible.

That’s why I created my own language learning app called Fluyo that is set to revolutionize the way people learn languages.

You can sign up for it at: www.fluyoapp.com

My official business emails are: [email protected] & [email protected]

If you receive an email from any other email address claiming to be me, please verify by emailing either of the two above emails addresses.

As mentioned earlier (maybe 1 year ago), "your" app would be ready not soon but in a couple of years. It was very evident that the app was in an early stage of the development because the most difficult part wasn't ready (a connection with a server, payment system etc). The design is relatively easy, the engine to program is very difficult and very expensive.

That's truly amazing! I love the part about the praise getting to you and you deciding that you needed to change your methodology so you could achieve what you wanted. That is commendable truly

This method sounds kinda painful and boring, I’m sorry Ikenna from 4 years ago. Also, if you did this method and tried to speak with a native speaker, you wouldn’t last long and resort to just Google Translating everything which will lead to you not learning anything at all. I’m surprised the simplest but most effective method wasn’t mentioned, watching KZread videos in your target language. Whether that be comprehensible input or just straight native content, KZread is one of the best resources for language learning.

In my opinion, use whatever program you like (whether it’s “fun and not effective” or “effective but not fun”) as long as you begin to immerse in your target language soon after. Hot take but you do not need to spend hundreds of dollars in learning a language, especially right now. Utilize those programs’ free trial and immerse afterwards.

Ikenna, I am sorry sorry about your health and I sympathize. I, too, have unbelievable problems thanks to long covid and had to take an early retirement and am rarely able to go outside and do normal things anymore. I never realized that I was taking things like walking and breathing for granted. Let's not even talk about my mental state, my brains seem to be on a long hiatus. Though I am not as ill as you are, I am living the life of an 80 year old but I am only 55. I know it is so frustrating and I really feel for you. Just hang in there and take it one day at a time. ❤

I strongly developed the listening part of language learning since I am passively bilingual. Speaking has improved a great deal. But reading has been amazing. I love reading all books but I love reading middle grade books in Portuguese because I feel like I’m learning and having fun while doing so. It’s like weirdly nostalgic and makes me feel like I am falling in love with reading again for the first time. Except it isn’t the first time - I just get to feel similarly since it’s a whole new world to discover. It should feel daunting but it’s not, it makes me happy that I have something to look forward to and discover each day.

I agree with you that language learning is a journey. With that having been said, I want to share with you my journey. I’ve tried a lot of language learning apps in the past, but the only thing that’s really worked for me is Immersive Translate. It’s a browser extension that supports a wide range of languages. I use it every day to watch Netflix, and this has really helped me become immersed in a new language.
