This must be the SECOND time u revisit Termless!! Thus the 3rd video about it, lol. And it's still the ONLY amp I've never been able to dial a good tone out of 😩 But at this point u probably have an age old version of it? 'Cos it's been updated plenty of times. I got the latest demo version and have tried at least 3 different versions of this during its lifetime - no difference. I could try Your settings, maybe the Red Giant makes the difference... 🤔 Also this was probably the FIRST time ever ur drums sounded fake AF!! 😱 I was like "Holy shit, what is he using this time?! I gotta know?!", 'cos I knew this was something unusual... It was the hi-hats in the beginning that gave it away! Gahd damn, they sounded like straight outta MT Power Drum Kit 🙈 I dunno if u forgot to do any humanization?! But gahd damn... Quite surprised it was the new & praised Josh drums... I've heard demos of them before and they did sound good... But other than the cymbals, they sounded okay(ish) here, but easily one of the LEAST good drums u have used. I remember u once tested some pink "toy" drumset vst, they were called Pop something? These were "on par" with them, lol 😭 These needs more life - could be the lack of normalization (and reverb) though 🤷‍♂ But other than that, the mix sounded good 😀 Though I noticed many videos ago, that ur bass doesn't pop out like it used to. U seem to use the same setting as before, so I'm not sure what has changed. Or maybe u like it more in the back nowadays? I like it growling, like it did before!

Regarding the brightness issue - I had a similar problem. I opened the electronics cavity and found that they have used 250k(!!!) pots for both volume and tone pots. Actives should use 25k pots. So, I ordered a new 25k volume pot and ditched the tone knob entirely. A lot more pleasant tone, but noticeably less gain.

About the bass libraries - somewhat agree, I think when exposed a lot of them sound clearly like sampled instruments however they do sit in a mix very well. I'd say the most realistic-sounding virtual bass I've ever used is Toontrack's EZBass, it sounds real, even solo'ed. The down size seems to be it's not as mix-ready. It's funny about what you say about the "Dingwall sound" everyone is chasing, because EZBass Metal is a Dingwall and sounds nothing like Djinn Bass (Submission Audio) or Nolly Bass (GGD).

mostly agree, we already got all kinds of amp sims and IR`s. Plenty of decent virtual basses by Submission Audio, not only Dingwall hehe. Drums - all good. Lots of mixing/mastering plugins. All I can see in the nearest future is better stretching/pitching algorithms, and a decent polyphonic notes recognition (for making midi or tabs), or maybe some revolutionary new psychoacoustic stuff for better mixing with cheap gear.

Reference mixing: i have the same opinion as you. I suggest to use more than 1 mix as reference (but comparable/similair mixes) Because then it is less "frustrating" if the mix does not match 100% (what never happens - as being said). Regarding the option paralysis: I mostly stick to the sims I already have and combine it with different IRs. More than enough options... no need for new stuff. Unless something revolutionary happens... maybe then I will grab something new 😊cheers!
