    Thank you Hugo for yet another super video. Two highlights. At Schiffbau we see an SBB freight train running slowly along the street. Yet another wonder of Swiss transport. There is still a lot of 'waggonload' freight trains in Switzerland, and the railways still go to enormous lengths to get the wagons to their freight customers! At Tiefenbrunnen there is (parked) a very strange looking tram. Is it the tram which goes round various tram terminuses collecting electrical goods destined for recycling?

  • @hugobazin8052
    @hugobazin80527 күн бұрын

    Yes the tracks at Schiffbau are still very frequently used and are one of the few instances that diesel locomotives are used! Imagine, a diesel locomotive running past the Prime tower, what a strange contrast! And yes you're right, the strange tram is indeed the Cargo tram which is used for the recycling of many goods, I believe you can bring almost all recyclables, but things that are to recycle regularly like electrical goods are quite common! Yeah, it rotates around the city throughout the month, so you have to follow its schedule to know when its near you :)

    I'm very happy to hear you thought my video was much better quality! Yes, well I can't controp weather most unfortunately :( Well I assume given that it's Switzerland we're talking about, and the Limmattalbahn is already quite controversial, that it'll get caught up in more politics and then on top of that, swiss mega project construction is super slow as they're so methodical with planning processes... so my best guest would be at least a decade😂

    Obwohl ich grosser Fan von Trambahnen bin, erachte ich diese neue Linie ab der Station Schlieren Geissweid nach Bhf Killwangen als völlig überflüssig, da sie mehrheitlich parallel zu den S-Bahngleisen verläuft und mit dem bisherigen Bus Service der Transportbedarf bereits sehr gut abgedeckt war. Wenn man bedenkt, dass für den Bau der Strecke 755 Millionen Schweizer Franken (!) budgetiert wurden und sich die Bevölkerungs-Wachstumsprognosen in diesem wenig beliebten Teil des Limmattals mittel- bis langfristig kaum erfüllen dürften, mutet der Bau der Limmattalbahn als gigantische Fehlplanung und Geldverschwendung an. Nun ist zu hoffen, dass es kein weiteres Projekt mit Fortführung der Limmattalbahn nach Baden AG geben wird. Besser wäre die Fortsetzung der Gleisanlagen von Zürich-Altstetten auf der Hohlstrasse und weiter in Richtung Hauptbahnhof Zürich als VBZ Linie 1.

  • @hugobazin8052
    @hugobazin805213 күн бұрын

    Ich glaube mit dem Entstehen der Limmattalbahn wird höchstenswahrscheinlich der Ausbauschritt nach Baden irgendwann kommen. Ich bin nicht der Meinung, dass die S-Bahn die gleiche Abdeckung hat, man kommt auch innerhalb der Dörfer viel besser dadurch, plud der Bahnhof liegt meistens nicht im Dorfzentrum. Dazu war ich der Meinung, dass die Buslinien nicht praktischh waren, früber war ich mal zur IKEA gegangen und es ging fast 20 Minuten durch Dietikon und Spreitenbach mit dem Bus bis dorthin, weil er immer durch Quartiere schlängelte... jetzt geht es in 5 Minuten von Killwangen oder 8 von Dietikon, also viel praktischer aus meiner Sicht. Aber ich verstehe schon, dass es eine grosse Investition war

As I realised from my visit just five weeks go, the 20 tram performs a very different function from the S-Bahn. The S-Bahn has only three stops between Kilwangen and Altstetten; tram 20 has 25 stops, but those include (for example) a major shopping centre, Dietikon town centre, and a hospital!

    Thank you Hugo for another excellent and very instructive video. The timetable gives the running time for route 46, which must be about 6 kms long, as 23 minutes. Our bus kept to that schedule. And that is despite the fact that about half the route is limited to 30 kph! A British bus operator would ask. How can they keep to such a schedule with such a low speed limit? Answer: Firstly stop dwell times are short because passengers have got four doors to choose from and drivers do not sell tickets. Secondly the progress on the quiet roads traversed by this route is not impeded by parked cars.

  • @hugobazin8052
    @hugobazin8052Ай бұрын

    Thank you for that super intersting comment Roger! That part about the exact running and distance is spot on, yes I'd say you've analyzed it perfectly... quiet roads and short dwell times! It for sure confused me how we got so far in 23 minutes on 30 roads and then it took double the time to Sihl city on faster roads with the 89, so it is pretty impressive!!
