    @imagineforest Thanks. The type of prologue I'm writing is a flashback prologue. It doesn't focus on the main protagonist but instead a side character who witnesses a catastrophe which is later revealed to be inexplicably linked to the main plot and storyline.

    i just do my genius move of naming characters after their personality directly , like , i may name a character as "innocence" , another one as "arrogance" , one as "fear" , etc the coolest part is that it makes sense in the narrative they are in

  • @imagineforest
    @imagineforest3 ай бұрын

    Haha, that's bold, but it can work! "Innocence" and "Fear" are super evocative names that definitely grab attention. The trick is to balance the obviousness with making them feel like characters, not just concepts. Maybe "Innocence" has a childlike wonder in their eyes, or "Fear" constantly fidgets with their hands. This way, the names become a jumping-off point to develop truly interesting characters. Intriguing approach, keep it up!

  • @praised_goodness
    @praised_goodness3 ай бұрын

    you don't get the trick , the thing that makes the names work the most is that they ARE concepts more than characters , which means they need to be obvious as much as possible@@imagineforest

    ngl ive been writing a musical which has been, for about a year and half, titled "Love, Anna", since one of the main characters is named Anna, but I'm really debating changing it because Anna is a really pretty name, but its so ugly to sing due to the tongue placement for the "uh" sound at the end. but then i find a name like "Eleanor" which sounds beautiful when singing, and also fits the setting of the Prohibition Era New Orleans, but its three syllables which doesnt work in the context of most of the songs, and also "Love, Eleanor" doesnt roll off the tongue the way "Love, Anna" does, and like i already have two other characters that have names starting with e. its just so frustrating lol

  • @imagineforest
    @imagineforest3 ай бұрын

    Haha, the struggle is real! I hear you on Anna - beautiful name, awkward to sing. "Eleanor" might be lovely to sing, but three syllables can be tricky. Here's an idea: Have you considered playing around with nicknames for Eleanor? Maybe "Ellie" works in the songs and keeps the "Love, Ellie" flow you like. There's also Ella, Nora and Nell as some ideas you might think about. You could also brainstorm other two-syllable names that fit the era and sound good sung, like "Marie", "Ruby" or "Stella." Ultimately, the best name will balance singability, character fit, and how it sounds with the title. Good luck!

    The problem is my characters are never human so their name needs to be made up whilst also meeting all these requirement. An alienwould not be aned James, but Xystithic doesn't necisarily feel like it means anything. An elf named Tingles might be apropriate for a christmas movie and Alabaster might feel right but there's a reason Legolas was a memerable elf name.

  • @imagineforest
    @imagineforest3 ай бұрын

    Totally hear you - naming non-human characters is a whole different challenge! While "Xystithic" might be a mouthful, remember even invented names can have meaning. Maybe it's a sound combination from their alien language or a reference to their home planet's environment. As for elves, you're right, "Tingles" might be a bit lighthearted. Think about elvish qualities - grace, wisdom, connection to nature. "Alabaster" evokes beauty, but maybe something with a touch of Elvish flair like "Elara" (meaning "elf" or "willow") or "Lathander" (meaning "high light") would hit the right note? This video has some tips on inventing unique names (like tip #5) that might spark some ideas!

    @@imagineforest What I usually do is take names from multiple sources related to either the fantasy race or the inspiration of the alien and mix them together. Still leaves me in a place where I might have nine characters and only two of them named.

  • @imagineforest
    @imagineforest3 ай бұрын

    That sounds like a cool approach to naming your characters! It's totally understandable to feel stuck when only a few characters have names, but don't worry, you're on the right track! Maybe try brainstorming specific traits or qualities for each character, and let those guide your naming process. You've got this - keep going, and before you know it, all your characters will have the perfect names that suit them just right!

    are there any quotes in chapter 14-chapter 19 and what pages are they on?

  • @imagineforest
    @imagineforest7 ай бұрын

    ah yes, there are plenty. Here are some we like from chapters 14 - 19. Sorry we can't provide the page numbers, as these can vary from different versions and prints of the book: - “There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.” - Mr. Brownlow (Chapter 14) - “Although the happiness and delight of my life lie buried there too, I have not made a coffin of my heart, and sealed it up for ever on my best affections. Deep affliction has only made them stronger; it ought, I think, for it should refine our nature. - Mr. Brownlow (Chapter 14) - Speak the truth, and you shall not be friendless while I live. - Mr. Brownlow (Chapter 14) - “I don’t belong to them. I don’t know them. Help! help!” cried Oliver, struggling in the man’s powerful grasp.(Chapter 15) - "I won’t stand by and see it done, Fagin,” cried the girl. “You’ve got the boy, and what more would you have?-Let him be-let him be-or I shall put that mark on some of you, that will bring me to the gallows before my time.” (Chapter 16) - “He was a dear, grateful, gentle child, sir,” retorted Mrs. Bedwin, indignantly. “I know what children are, sir; and have done these forty years; and people who can’t say the same, shouldn’t say anything about them.” - Mrs. Bedwin (Chapter 17) - “You’ve been brought up bad,” said the Dodger, surveying his boots with much satisfaction when Oliver had polished them. “Fagin will make something of you, though, or you’ll be the first he ever had that turned out unprofitable. - Dodger (Chapter 18) - "The boy was lying, fast asleep, on a rude bed upon the floor; so pale with anxiety, and sadness, and the closeness of his prison, that he looked like death; not death as it shows in shroud and coffin, but in the guise it wears when life has just departed;" (Chapter 19) Hope this helps! :)
