Kilts, tartan, pipes, hairy legged men, and a Shetland pony clad in plaid...sprinkle with precision, martial presentation... what's not to love. No wonder Balmoral is such a magical, beloved place to the Queen. Stately stone buildings nestled in the most lush, verdant countryside God ever created. Magnificent!

I spent a few weeks in Applecross in the 1970's with my work. That was before the new road down the coast from the north was built. The only way to reach Applecross and the other villages was this road (summer months only) or by boat from Kyle of Lochalsh. It seemed more like an island than part of the mainland. The Applecross Hotel had a black and white TV which could only receive BBC1, and a shed at the side was an off-license open one hour each evening selling tins of McEwans bitter or Tennants Lager. The hotel water supply came from a burn behind, and if you ran a bath, it looked like weak tea because of the peat.

The worst piper in Aberdeen. Gave me abuse when I offered him some assistance to help tune his instrument. Didn't like the friendly advice given to him by a group of Grade 1 World Champions (that means the best in the business) when they herd him on a visit to the city for a concert.

To watch this now four years later it is rather bittersweet knowing the queen is now gone to be with her husband, mother, father, and sister. May she Rest In Peace. And the last scene we will remember after her being lowered into her final resting place is a single bagpiper playing a soliloquy while walking out and away.
